Vent on Charlie Williams

No BEEF

I have known Charlie since he was 13 years old. He would stay in one pool hall till they closed and hitch a ride to the one I was working in many times. He would stay until I closed and I would drive him down-town to his Mother's bar and grill, where she would always offer me something to eat.
I have never known him to cheat or be anything but a decent human.
In my opinion he has only helped the pool world with his endeavors with pool leadership, and with his tournaments. I am on a bandwagon for Charlie!
Is it jealousy or what do you really have against him? Who are you to say he is not qualified to be captain of the Mosconi Cup?
Charlie has come up from a meager background and accomplished more in pool and for pool than the majority of naysayers on this forum, I am quite sure.
That is my 2 cents worth for now. Thanks for listening.

Michael Vick has gotten a better shake in public opinion than Charlie.

Jennie,
Just in case one day, Matchroom Sports takes a gamble on JoeyA and/or Jay Helfert as USA Captain/Co-Captain, I should really keep this one secret.

I KNOW it will help their game and I haven't told Jay what "the secret" is either, so don't go pumping him for information that he doesn't have. :D

(Jay probably has a couple of SECRETS of his own that will help the USA Mosconi Cup Team WIN!)

I actually think the two of you would complement each other as co-captains. It would be brilliant to have co-captains.

I think the biggest secret for competitive pool, though it's really not a secret, is to ensure that each player goes to sleep EARLY at night. That Las Vegas has too many damn distractions, and the players go out at night and gamble and do whatever else Vegas has to offer, if you catch my drift.

In fact, it just might take the two of you, Jay and JoeyA, to round those players up at night and get their rest. A team that works together in unison will be a much better team that every man for himself.

In this Mosconi Cup, I think the players should all stay together and sleep in a suite. Forget the night-time action. They need to eat well and concentrate on pool while the Mosconi Cup is going on.

This is the BIGGEST stumbling block for American players when they're in Las Vegas. They are unable to keep their priorities straight. They are there to play pool, not gamble and make it rain.

right idea, wrong solution!

JAM,

You have the right idea, the US Mosconi players need to get their rest at night. However the solution is not to babysit them but to send along some substitutes to stand in for them to forfill the irksome late night duties, so harmful to bright eyed bushy tailed performances in the pre-afternoon hours. I'm rarely in bed before the roosters are crowing anyway so I'll volunteer to lead such a crew. Now if I can just manage to round up a few youngsters willing to risk their health and well being taking on this arduous task. Oh yeah, the fundraiser starts immediately to support this dedicated group of heroes willing to give their all so the US Mosconi players can get their badly needed rest! Please send donations directly to me; cash, small bills preferred.

Those willing to serve on this crew must be young and in good health. With my vast experience in this area I will captain the crew of substitutes. If Keith isn't busy perhaps he would like to be my co-captain. I have heard he is not totally inexperienced in this area.

Sorry... But Europe is gonna crush team USA. Charlie Williams as a captain? Seriously? He should be the guy bringing the players drinks and giving massages between matches, not coaching. No Strickland and no Hatch doesn't help the situation either. We are screwed, people. My money is on Europe.... I hope SVB and Johnny can carry the team.

No beef here with Charlie. Read some things here in the past about him. None of which have anything to do with me since I'm just a spectator. He plays well IMO, hopefully he will lead us to victory.

I have a feeling that he would readily volunteer to provide assistance in Las Vegas in any form. Last time he went to Vegas sans JAM, well, let's just say I don't think he enjoyed the ride home from the airport.

Just the sound of that "vegas" word keeps conjuring up unpleasantries. Recently, I learned about how it affected Elvis Presley's demise. I had to actually look up the spelling, just to be sure. Lo and behold, it was "vagus" and *not* "vegas." I've gotten so I don't even like to hear the sound VAY-GUS anymore. :grin-devilish:

I do realize I'm in the minority on this. :p

Teamwork....

Just stop it Jennie, stop it right now. You're giving away all of the secrets. :D j/k, but seriously, they are all good pieces of advice. Charlie is probably reading this thread and getting all of the good secrets from it and will bring USA to victory.

Everyone should make it rain. Even if you only get $20 in ones. Throw all them in the air at one time baby while she makes it clap. Good living there.

Matchroom obviously thought they were nominating Charlie Sheen, not Williams, to be captain. I myself would rather see Sheen be captain over Williams.... Let Matchroom sweat that! Bars and booze after the matches, late night trips to The Rhino, catch some breakfast mid AM, wash down some amphetamines with some Tiger Blood, then off to the matches!

I could also support this movement.

What exactly did charlie do that was so bad? I just thought people complained about him putting his opponents to sleep. Is there anything else?

I volunteer to be a member....

Paging Marissa. Marissa to the white courtesy phone.:outtahere:

The following Marissa quote in that thread says it all....

"He did not announce his presence. I don't know how long I was asleep before I realised he was touching me. I woke up screaming. Then I heard "Marissa, Marissa, it's me Charlie." He was trying to quiet me as not to disturb anyone within hearing distance or the next rooms. When I was fully awake, I had to push him off of me."

Doesn't really make me want to shout USA, USA, USA..... Thanks Matchroom!

Found this gem!!!! ROFLMAO!!!!!!
