Vets sound off on Veterans Day

Thanks to AZ for allowing this thread!

NPR surely?

As the waitress on Alice said "Kiss my Grits" SakuJack! Wish I could have said what I really wanted to about your worthless NPR post but I won't! Obviously you are not a real American!

It must have been horrible. He doesn't say much about his service in Korea even less about Nam. We just never bring it up.

A friend of mine, now deceased, was one of the "Chosin Few". The only time I ever said anything to him about it was when there was a reunion in Kennebunk or Kennebunkport, which is less than an hours drive. I asked him if he was going to attend the reunion. He looked at me and just said, "I can't". American losses Marines/Army were around 2800 killed. Estimated Chinese killed were 35,000.

Interesting tidbit, not many realize is that Chosin is the Japanese name for the reservoir and lake, which they gave it during the long occupation of Korea. The Koreans know it as Changjin.

I don't think he's American. He might be from Europe, or even a slightly disenfranchised Canuckastanian (you know, that frozen yonder north of our border?). :p

-Sean <-- knows his favorite Canuckastanians pt109 and Blue Hog ridr will be along any moment now to administer lashings... :p :D

I wouldn't worry about him overly Wedge. Maybe he is just jealous that he didn't serve and a few of our pool playing members are getting well deserved pats on the back for one day.

Many AZ members served their country and deserve a Huge Thank You. This thread isn't about just saying Thank You to the living members here, its also remembering the ones that can't be here as well.

This isn't to be hidden away in NPR, its Main Page. NPR has their own Remembrance Day Tribute threads.

Some peoples kids didn't listen to their Moms and fell out of the tree on their heads. Thats all.

And Sean, as per your PM, I damn well hope he isn't from Canada, if he is, I will take him ice fishing with me this winter.

I'm not a veteran but my grandfather served in World War I and fought at the battle of Passchaendale. I have limitless respect for all who have served and I know the safety and the freedoms I enjoy are the gift they have given me.

Thanks to all you veterans.

Thanks to all of you for your service! And Godspeed to all of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice and perished so that your brothers could carry on.

Speaking of interesting facts; read up on Chesty Puller. He received his 5th Navy Cross at Chosin and made that famous quote, " we've been looking for the enemy and we are surrounded. That simplifies things". If I didn't get it exact I apologize. If there was a vote on who was one of the greatest warriors that ever lived, he would get my vote.

I am not a veteran either but I grew up a Military Brat. My dad was in USMC 69-72 Delta 1/5 70-71. Left the Corps to join the Army 73-82. Mom talked him into getting out, after they divorced he finished out his service in the KY National Guard and was sent to Iraq in 2005. He is my hero as are all of the men and women who sacrifice so much so that I may enjoy my freedom.
