Video of Earl Strickland and Johnny Archer Interview

Gotta love Earl

I can't say that he is done winning. I really think that this is the calm before the storm. If he can make peace with the demons in his head to the point that it becomes just a table, balls, cue, himself and nothing else he will bulldoze his way through tournaments. I think it will only take one tournament of him playing that way to pave the way.

Yes!!!!

WAY TO GO EARL, TELL IT LIKE IT IS!!!!!!

Thanks you Lenny. That was a fine interview for both players.

Earl is right about other professional players cursing on television. It isn't the first time and it won't be the last. For crying out loud, look at television today and I'm not talking about HBO, Showtime and the rest of the "special" channels. Our children can listen to all of the four letter words they want to on TV or if they really want to learn how to curse they can just go to the Internet and really sink in the mud. No need to single him out but in defense of the interviewer, he was probably just doing what his employer expected of him.

I agree with that point as well, but he would've seemed the bigger person by apologizing for it instead of only talking about what other people did or do. Just because other people have done it does not make it right.

He's defintely unique! Got a chuckle when he zoned out there for a minute trying to figure out if he did say something wrong! You could almost see the gears turning in his head.:D
Yeah Neil,I liked how he said in the beginning "That would not go well with er,uh sleeping dinner or whatever.",he is just funny. :)

Thanks Lenny!

Earl is my favorite active player and 2nd all time favorite to Luther Lassiter. I would be interested in watching him read the newspaper!

I liked how Johnny kept patting Earl on the back. Sort of as a "You're OK, Earl" and another time sort of like "Hey buddy, calm down now."

We'll never again see a 5 time U.S. Open Champion and a 6 time World 9 Ball Champion all rolled together in a personality that is must see You Tube!
My Earl Strickland Accu-Stats collection gets more valuable everytime he gives an interview! And he may pull a Jack Nicklaus on us and win another major before he's done. I'm pulling for him for sure.

That's just classic Earl at his best , I loved it when the guy interviewing him said he was sorry about Earl's language .

I dont think its funny, I think it sad.

I have changed my tune, I feel sorry for Earl.

The same way I feel sorry for Ali.

I have to say, I agree fully with Earl on jump cues. They have produced an entire generation now that doesn't know how to kick, when compared to the older players. I don't mean top tier players, more local shortstop speed. I carry one, as I don't want to give an advantage to everybody I play, but I would be first in line to turn it in, if they ever made them illegal. Phenolic tips, and jump cues both. Hate 'em.

"You wanna see some guy's sh!t on themselves?!"

I love it when someone is so confident that they don't hesitate to say what they are thinking. Thank god for Earl!

I really enjoyed the interview. Earl was telling things exactly like they are. Pool should be played on tough equipment at the top professional level, no question about it. It is not a crime that he said $hit on live t.v. and saying young kids are watching is a lame excuse. There are plenty of programs on t.v. where young kids hear and see way worse things. Besides, they should be familiar with the phrase "$hit on yourself" and learn that it is something they do not wish to do!!

There is no reason to feel sorry for Earl. He is one of the nicest people in the pool world that I have had a chance to talk to and he is simply somebody who has an inner struggle that he combats with everyday and now openly admits. He is one of the best entertainers in the pool industry and pool needs his chracter.

Exactly, I think it was John Schmidt that said it was even money whether or not Earl would tell people to F off at the Mosconi Cup and that is a big draw for some people. He might not play in half the tournaments as the other players and you might see him a couple times a year but he's always on the USA Mosconi Cup team. He is by far one of the best players ever and if there is ever to be a lifetime pool entertainment award he is first hands down.

I agree with Earl that for professional events, the tables need to be made much tougher than they are now. I would love to see the switch to 5x10 fts with 3.5 - 4 inch pockets. The way it is right now, it is too easy for the say #200 player to beat say the #2 player in any given match. Yes, the best few players still tend to rise towards the top, but not as often as they should.

You don't need to change the equipment. Just change the game from 9-ball to 10-ball. The Diamond Pro Am is the industry standard and they are just fine as is IMO.

Earl is my second favorite player to watch of all time. If he could get control of his inner demons, he'd be on top again. Away from the table, Earl is always good natured and is fun to talk to. He hasn't realized how much wasted energy has cost him with his temper. Get it together Earl, I'm rooting for ya.

I agree with changing to 10 ball and think it is a step in the right direction, but it's just not enough to create a distinct pecking order where even the #20 guy is a long shot to beat the #2 guy, as in say tennis. The equipment still needs to be made tougher, too. Just my opinion.
