JoeyA said:Thanks you Lenny. That was a fine interview for both players.
Earl is right about other professional players cursing on television. It isn't the first time and it won't be the last. For crying out loud, look at television today and I'm not talking about HBO, Showtime and the rest of the "special" channels. Our children can listen to all of the four letter words they want to on TV or if they really want to learn how to curse they can just go to the Internet and really sink in the mud. No need to single him out but in defense of the interviewer, he was probably just doing what his employer expected of him.

Yeah Neil,I liked how he said in the beginning "That would not go well with er,uh sleeping dinner or whatever.",he is just funny.Neil said:He's defintely unique! Got a chuckle when he zoned out there for a minute trying to figure out if he did say something wrong! You could almost see the gears turning in his head.![]()

I have changed my tune, I feel sorry for Earl.
The same way I feel sorry for Ali.

Exactly, I think it was John Schmidt that said it was even money whether or not Earl would tell people to F off at the Mosconi Cup and that is a big draw for some people. He might not play in half the tournaments as the other players and you might see him a couple times a year but he's always on the USA Mosconi Cup team. He is by far one of the best players ever and if there is ever to be a lifetime pool entertainment award he is first hands down.1on1pooltournys said:I really enjoyed the interview. Earl was telling things exactly like they are. Pool should be played on tough equipment at the top professional level, no question about it. It is not a crime that he said $hit on live t.v. and saying young kids are watching is a lame excuse. There are plenty of programs on t.v. where young kids hear and see way worse things. Besides, they should be familiar with the phrase "$hit on yourself" and learn that it is something they do not wish to do!!
There is no reason to feel sorry for Earl. He is one of the nicest people in the pool world that I have had a chance to talk to and he is simply somebody who has an inner struggle that he combats with everyday and now openly admits. He is one of the best entertainers in the pool industry and pool needs his chracter.
You don't need to change the equipment. Just change the game from 9-ball to 10-ball. The Diamond Pro Am is the industry standard and they are just fine as is IMO.Poolplaya9 said:I agree with Earl that for professional events, the tables need to be made much tougher than they are now. I would love to see the switch to 5x10 fts with 3.5 - 4 inch pockets. The way it is right now, it is too easy for the say #200 player to beat say the #2 player in any given match. Yes, the best few players still tend to rise towards the top, but not as often as they should.
I agree with changing to 10 ball and think it is a step in the right direction, but it's just not enough to create a distinct pecking order where even the #20 guy is a long shot to beat the #2 guy, as in say tennis. The equipment still needs to be made tougher, too. Just my opinion.Big C said:You don't need to change the equipment. Just change the game from 9-ball to 10-ball.
