Wanted/For Sale Forum Rant

The fact that you are worried about posting a thread and it getting buried 20 pages deep shows how fast the forum moves, so why slow it down and as a result slow sales? Doesn't make sense.

That's not true.
In this case the forum is not moving it is rehashing the same old stuff.
There is a difference.

On the surface that might seem true to you ( 2 months experience with our forum is not enough to have a good feel in both good and bad times), but the fact is there is a severe slow down in sales, cues are taking much longer to sell. That is the reason for the repetitiveness, it goes along with the current selling climate. When times are good, new things pop up every minute, but the environment is different now and you can expect to see threads bumped many more times than before. It is a cycle that will pass, without the need for punitive restrictions meted out to the seller/member here.

Hey I am trying to Hijack this thread but
I need to ask this question while it is on my mind.
I have been a participant on AZ Billiards Forum for
several months now and I am ashamed to say
this thread is the first I have heard of a Club Membership.

1. Can someone please tell me what the advantages/benefits
of being a Club Member are?
2. How do you become a Club Member?

I have been contemplating this post for quite a while. I know there will be many different points of view on this subject, and this one is solely mine.

It seems to me the the Wanted/For Sale section here at AZB has gotten a bit out of hand. The same cues (numerous cues at that) by the same posters, being bumped several times a day... everyday. It gets really old sifting through the same content all the time, not to mention all the free advertising they get from this site.

Yes, I use this site to promote cues I have for sale, but I believe I do it in moderation. However, I would be more than agreeable to pay for advertising here at AZB. I have purchased banner ads in the past, but I do not believe they offer as much exposure as a post in the Wanted/For Sale forum.

Many other hobbiest forums charge a membership fee to be eligible to post in the "classified" sections of their forum (something like $25-$50 per year). They also limit the amount of "bumps" one can make on their thread (e.g., a max of 5 bumps total and 72 hours between bumps). They also limit the amount of "chatter" in For Sale threads. In other words, the only replies allowed are ones committing to buy the item or questions pertaining to the item, no general comments about how nice it is, if it is a good deal, here's a bump for my friend, etc.

I believe this would be a nice revenue generator for AZB, and would make the Wanted/For Sale forum a much more enjoyable and efficient forum to visit. I believe that this can be accomplished using the current forum software, as another site I visit has this system in place.

That is my $.02 worth... I'm sure many won't agree.
You make some good points and I agree that something should be done to slow down the bumps on certain items that you see everyday over and over. Sometimes it's a better sales tactic to give your item a rest and then push it back to the front instead of bombarding potential buyers. Give them time to think about your cue or case so they can make up their mind instead of putting it in everyone's face daily many of whom aren't interested to begin with. Just my $.02.......

Bump

I agree there are just to many people bumping their own threads and their friends threads. I also plead guilty to doing this.

I think if we just let it known that more than one or two bumps per week are frowned upon, the problem would go away.

I think some of the "chatter" bumps are the biggest problem and most unnecessary. I understand the "nice cue" and "good luck with your sale" comments once in awhile, but the ones like "if I would have seen this last week it would be mine" are ridiculous and serve no purpose.

I'm guilty of "chatter" bumps too, but I'm going to do my part and limit these types of posts from here on.

I view your rant in the same way I view people who don't vote, enjoy the benefits of our society but then rant about how bad things are and how they want things changed.

You have the right to free speech. I have the right to ignore your rants as duplicitous until you at least support the site by becoming a member.

Edit: Just checked your iTrader. 13 purchases out of 83 transactions. Looks like you sell/trade a heck of a lot and yet you eschew membership?

How bout azbay... with listing fees, final value fees and all payments made thru azpay...with a small fee, of course, all to be paid by the seller...and no forwarding the fees to the buyer either. That would be against the rules.;)

Just my thoughts. I get so much out of these forums on AZ. Hours upon hours each year. I gladly pay to be a member and next year will give more to support AZ. We must realize times are tuff and everyone is not as blessed as some of us are but if everyone that could, would, $35 or so would go a long way and would be so helpful to these forums. To those that can't, sit back and enjoy the forums here and get your minds off of other not so pleasant things going on in your lives. Thanks AZB you are the NUTZ!!!!

There are a few good things to come out of this thread...more club members. Thanks for the heads up!

It appears to me that some things work and some things don't on this forum. I've bought more than a few things on this forum and haven't received an itrader. i've sold a couple things and received 1 itrader. I really don't pursue it. if there's a consequence to it that's my fault.

But one thing i've decided to do is not buy from anyone that doesn't have a membership to this forum. The idea that this forum has grown to this large success without funding is remarkable. Almost never happens. I hope you people who aren't members realize what you've lost if someday it goes away or changes because it didn't receive the minimal club membership funding it deserves to keep it going. Almost no where do you get something that works as well as this for free,.

my 2 cents

My suggestion would be to have a standardized form. There are to many posts in the wanted/for sale forum that have incomplete info. I think it may cut down the posts if there was a template that had all the essential cue descriptions. ie shaft diameter, shaft ferrule material, weight of shaft, weight of butt etc, cue maker, wood combos. I see to many posts have cue for sale $500 with a blurry pic and no details and then you have 5 bumps / posts for additional details.
Thanks for listening.

That is SO true. A year or two ago, a nice cue at a decent price would only last a few hours. Now, you almost have to give something away, and even then, it is a really lengthy process. Lots of folks are just not taking the plunge right now. It is tough. I hope we have a recovery soon.

This would definitely be a nice deal. To make a form, sticky it, and have the person who is selling something copy/paste that form into their F/S post so anyone who is thinking about buying it has the information. And if you want to post multiple, you can post them all in the same post, just make sure you have the basic information for each cue your listing.

Just my $.02, and I will be getting my club membership this weekend as soon as I get my paycheck. I didn't know what the club membership was prior to this thread myself.

I don't like fee charging unless there is actually some service render here like escrow maybe.

I also hope there will not be any restrictions on comments. I like comments. I like to here what people has to say, how the seller response. It helps in my decision to buy. It helps to alert if the seller is unreliable or not.

I think this thread could really use the opinion of a few members who are selling multiple items right now. Their bumps could almost cover a whole page.

Please don't restrict selling to only privilege few. I think the whole idea of this place is how freely everyone is allowed to mingle and sell stuff. Maybe setup another section like the raffle one for some members here to set up shop. This way whatever they have for sale would always be visible.

For the rest who does not have a shop. Maybe they are allow to sell stuff in one thread at a time? I think it would not have come to this if some of the sellers could just consolidate all that they have to sell into one thread instead of individual thread for each item.

Just my opinion. As you can see my fabulous single digit iTrader rating. I must know what i am talking about!!! Ha ha ha.......

I think everyone that likes AZ should be a member I buy not sell ! By joining, it helps keep AZ here! Ron

I think it's only a few that abuse the wanted/for sale section.Bumping a item or 2 at a time isn't bad but you'll see some are bumping any where between 5-15 at once. These do seem to be people who have stores/websites as well.I think this section is great for the average player whom wants to trade, sell or buy their pool items at a fair price.I also like the fact to have dealers on here with new products at fair prices.I just feel a select few should use better judgment in how they push/bump items.I would just say a very small group are making it difficult here.IMO.
