Was I wrong for handling this the way I did?

If he really threatend you. there was a small window of time right after that you could have done just about anything to the guy and got away with it. the ****ed up part is after you kick him in the sack and stomp on his head once or twice, how much does he try and sue you for even though hes the dick head that brought it on himself.

All these suggestions of violence scares me. Seriously. Well, kind of seriously.
There is no way that I will risk my pass port for some drunken knob. Finally got a Pardon from the Fed Gov.

Funny that on certain nights there are so many young bloods acting out at the hall. Little Gang Bangers.

I know guys who could give you the look and you'd know. These are the quiet guys who wouldn't normally say Shite if their mouths were full of it.

Its the quiet guys you have to worry about. They walk softly and carry a big stick so to speak. Am I not right?

I'm much quieter now than I used to be. Lol. When I was a little bit younger and slightly more invincible, I'd have probably let the guy have a shot at the title, or maybe just caught him in his dome with the ass end of a house cue and let the bouncer drag him away from the pool table, but I'm older now and just ignore as much stupid as humanly possible.

I like that little black thing in your avatar Joe. What kind is it.

I'll be in the market for one in the new year after I get my restricted permit.

Fighting fire with fire is hardly ever the best choice, especially when alcohol is involved.

But I don't ever have a problem telling a guy to put his money where his mouth is. It usually doesn't happen, but when it does...enjoy your winnings. No need to get bent out of shape from some rail bird who can't play, just take his money while buying him a drink and enjoy the night.

10 years ago I would have looked at him and said, "You sure got a pretty mouth." .... at least I wouldn't be starting the physical altercation.

Now I just grin and let it go. It's not going to be the last time this happens to you.

I was shooting in my league last night and this big drunk guy comes over from the bar and starts watching us shoot. He's not talking to anyone, no one even knew him. Every time me or my opponent miss, he starts saying stuff like "What the **** was that?" or "Are you serious, man?" I asked him nicely after the second time to knock it off but he still did it. So after the third time, I go "Dude, if all you're gonna do is sit there and insult us, go back to the ****ing bar!" Well this dude got PISSED! He got up in my face and threatened to kick my ass. I wouldn't shoot til he left so eventually the bartender made him go back to the bar even tho initially she was neutral. Would anyone else have reacted this way or did I overreact?

After being nice, let management deal with him. Get them on your side early in case of escalation. Cursing at him just further escalated the tone. Let them deal with their own drunks. Enjoy your pool.

The way I would interpret this is that it is referring to conduct between opposing teams. You can't very well make a drunk that is not an APA member follow APA rules.

That's why you handle it this way:

Sir, I appreciate your wonderful insights and instructions to the game. You obviously know much about pool as I can tell that by your telling us bad players how to play shots.

You must therefore know that you can't play or help others here play without paying the league fee of $10. Do you have your $10? No? Then ________.(fill in with your language) Money has a way of shutting up the stupid.

That'll get the juices flowing enough to make the situation come to a head and end it once a for all, one way or another.

"There are people in this world who go about demanding to be killed. You must have noticed them. They quarrel in gambling games. They jump out of their automobiles in a rage. They humiliate and bully people whose capabilities they do not know. These are people who wander through the world shouting, "kill me". And there's always someone ready to oblige to them." ---Don Vito Corleone

TBH I don't go out and play when I'm in a sh1tty mood.
When I 1st posted yesterday I was in a pretty bad mood. You did the right thing. Situations like this get out of hand quickly. Most of the time when something like this happens they are on their way out the door anyway. There is no way punching someone in the face (even if it seems deserving) will make your night better
Take the high road

The person incharge of the bar at that time should have stopped it. The bar owner, manager or bartender should have told him stop or get out. It's that simple.

This is the best answer, if he didnt listen, then either the bouncer walks him out or throws him out, if no bouncer then the police would escort him out, then lock him up for drunk driving!

You question is impossible to answer because you didn't say how well you fight.

I would have laughed at the guy but that's just me.

With our leagues being played in a traveling league system to many small time bars where you visit their local drinkers, many situations come up. At times, this situation comes up and nicely let him know this is a pool league night, not a tournament, but, not there to just play around either, if he continues, go right to the bar and ask who is in charge and that you request it stopped. The bar person can try or just call the cops. The nice thing is, you inform the person, then inform the bar, maybe have to inform the bar person twice, but, when the drunk starts being agressive against the bar person, then all the fun can take place, all the pool players then can come to the aid of the bar worker and they are most happy. A word to the wise though: when the cops come in, stop using your break cues butt end as it does not look good to keep beating his butt with the cops looking down at you. ok, well, you might just want to pass on a code word to both teams when a person starts acting up and all players from both teams come forward to let the person know this is a league night and his influence is not appreciated. Most drunks don't like 10 people chiming in at them at once. Also remember, most bars sell their logo t-shirts, grab one of these off the hangers and put a cue ball in it. One of these to a knee cap will usually halt most advancements of big big guys, especially having 10 of those things circling in the air. Geesh, I guess I go back many many years in pools. Maybe the best thing is to disregard most everything I have said and handle it the way you did, let the bar tender handle it with dialing 911, just don't forget what I have said if your backed into a corner.
