I said over a year ago I wasn’t posting here anymore, but I guess it’s time…

It’s no secret that I’m behind. I’m at least a year behind, some orders even further. I have cues sitting here that need just a few hours work to be finished up that have been sitting for a long time. Sometimes, there’s just a small issue that needs to be addressed and I end up putting it aside and neglecting to get back to it. I will start working at getting those out immediately.

When I started building cues, I loved it. I couldn’t wait to get to the next one. Then people started ordering cues. All of a sudden I had a stockpile of orders. I have taken very few orders in the last year or two by choice. I’m trying to get caught up and don't need more of a backlog.

When I first started getting orders, I had one child and she was in daycare full time. Now, I have 3. I am responsible for getting them to school, picking them up and watching them on days off. I am also the one to stay home with them if they are sick. With two in daycare, that seems to happen a lot.

When we had our third child, my wife’s parents came from Japan and stayed with us for over a year to take care of the kids. That sounded like a great idea, but they really couldn’t handle them and I ended up watching them most of the day. For that year, I got almost nothing done.

I also had (still have) another business to maintain. That business made a lot of money and paid the bills. The cues were just fun. That started to suffer when the economy went south and my partner and I didn’t put as much time into it as we should have. That has started to pick back up over the last several months, but it is not even close to where it used to be 5 or 6 years ago. That no longer covers my bills, so I must rely on the cues to do that. Unfortunately, I’m not finishing them fast enough. My other business still takes priority over cue building.

My current work schedule is I get up at 4am and work until I have to get the kids ready for school and daycare. Once they’re all in place, I go back to work until it’s time for me to get them. My days are short. Mondays and Fridays, the kids stay home from daycare and all 3 will be home during the summer.

By the time the kids get to bed at night, I am ready for bed myself. I work weekends when I can, but that’s not every weekend. This weekend, I was up at 4 and worked until 4 or 5 both days. My days are short and I don’t see them getting any longer until my kids are all in school full time.'

I only started getting up at 4 recently, but have accomplished a lot during that time, so I will continue to work with that schedule. I am not going to be caught up overnight, but I will get there. Once I am, I don’t know if I will ever take another order. It was a lot more fun when I could just build what I wanted.

I have almost all of the cues on order in the works. Many are to the point that all they need are inlays, which is what takes the majority of the time. As for progress pictures, I don’t take very many. I doubt that is going to change, but I will try to do a little bit better in it. It slips my mind when I’m working and when I’m done working, I’m running around like crazy the rest of the day.

There are a couple of cues going out today and tomorrow and more that are supposed to go out at the end of the week. They all may not make it, but if they don’t, it’s not because I didn’t work on them. It will be because I ran out of time.

Starting next week, I will update my facebook page on Monday with what I am working on. Every week, I will start with the oldest order I have and work on that until it’s finished, as well as work on getting the ones that just need a few minutes of work out the door. As far as I can remember Robert Urbanowski is my oldest order (I think there is one older, but I need to get some info from the Buyer), so as of next Monday, I will begin the inlays on his cue and post a few photos on facebook.

I know that’s not going to satisfy everybody, but it’s the best I can do. I’m not going anywhere and not looking to rip anybody off. I am just behind (way behind). Hopefully this can put some people’s fears to rest. If you spent a day at my house, you would see that it is very hectic. My kids are little and take a lot of my time. In fact, I started typing this when my wife was leaving for her office at 7 and it's 9:15 now.

I don’t regret having to care for my kids. What I regret is getting the brilliant idea one day that I would like to try and build a pool cue for myself. Anybody looking to get into this business should think long and hard about it. Very few will be successful. I am probably one of the lucky ones in that I have had some success, but don’t confuse that with striking it rich. You can probably make more money working at McDonalds than building cues.

To address a few other comments…

1. I don’t ask for full payment up front. I ask for a 25% deposit. There are some cues that are not delivered that are paid in full. Some because the Buyer helped me out for whatever reason and some because the Buyer just paid me without asking.

2. I build all of my clues by myself. I don’t know where Tank69 gets the idea that I don’t, but that’s complete bullshit. I have never used a forearm made by somebody else. I have never even built a conversion. I refuse every order I get where the customer wants to supply the blank. I’d like to know who’s cues you think look similar to mine? I also don’t build parts for other builders.

I don’t spend a lot of time reading things on AZ and I likely won’t post in this thread again. My PM’s are off on this site. If you have questions, then email me or call me. I miss most calls, but try to call back as soon as I can. Do not text me. I won’t reply. "

hey

Hey Steve, Is that Bruno Sanmartino your speaking of? Good Lord that brings back memories of the early days of 'wrestling'!! Wasn't there a bad dude named the Detroit Destroyer as well???

What circuit? I knew Bruno also, Ernie Ladd, Fritz Von Eric, Kurt Von Eric, Erick The Red and countless others. My best friend's dad was The Masked Executioner and we all worked out together. He had a gym in his basement and all the guys would hang out there when they were wrestling in Buffalo. We would go and gawk and pal around with these big guys.

oh really? what about those people that you explicitly asked to pay you and never sent them their cue? what a joke! he doesnt ask for it upfront but he asks for the rest it before the cue is finished which is essentially the same thing or at least creates the same problem.

i paid my deposit, and in march 2011 he told me to send the rest cuz the cue is a week or two from being done (i have his message about this on the mavenlink account he set up). i sent him the rest of the money and guess what? i still havent received the cue 2½ years later. perhaps it is a week from being completed but if he chooses not to work on it then it doesnt matter.

getting tired of those bs excuses too. and even if they're true it doesnt matter. whether or not you are too busy to finish the cue has nothing to do with you asking me to send you money. if you're too busy to work on the cue then dont tell me it's a week from being done and ask for the money cuz that's just a straight lie.

Tony called me when i was in Germany in April, said he was going to finish my cue. ok fine.

no communication since, until last week, I got a email, not a PM asking for shipping address. I sent him one and asked he call me ahead of time so I can be sure there is someone there(which there always is 24/7/365)-i just wanted to be sure he ships. he contacted me-out of the blue. Said early this week, today is Monday so we shall see.

I truly hope he delivers. I'm a forgiving man. I'm the end of the world when i'm lied to. He did make a wise move and contact me said he was ready to deliver. being optimistic I am hopeful. And when it arrives this week(his words) i will let everyone here know.

I understand he has had personal issues that have derailed him, and i also think he got burned out on building cues. So I understand him not delivering, I didnt say it was cool, i understand it. there is a big difference between the 2. I hope he settles his personal problems and either retires from cues after he satisfies all that is owed. Or he solves his personal problems and takes a interest in building cues, he is capable.

Taking peoples $$$ under false pretenses is not cool at all in any business. False pretenses can be simple as being 6 months late, in cue maker time-being generous. Or just keeping $$$ and selling cues that will never be built at worst. I'm not judging him-yet. This is his last chance with me, I made that clear and am being nice about it. Don't confuse niceness for softness. I will not let this go. hopefully he calls tomaro.

Perhaps being optimistic I hope he will make right his on mistakes, I hope so. for everyone concerned.

I will let everyone know what happens with my cue and its delivery.

best
eric

I am in complete agreement brother !! you can not go wrong with Josey's and I can't imagine anything hitting any better. Maybe there is but I haven't found it yet !

That's for sure. Can't go wrong with Sherri and Keith Josey.
You will have great player and their work is top notch.Beside that, they both know the rules of game of pool and how should pool cue hit like.It doesn't matter who distracts you or what other work do you have beside, but shit like this with waiting for the cue or refund for multiple years is egregious and people who treats other people this way should be punished. The other thing that I cannot figure out is how come that some people could after all this fiasco with this cuemaker still bee on cuemaker's side and tell that somebody should be even more patient! This is what impressed me even more than the fact that there are some people who likes very much, but very, very much other peoples money.
Thanks
:smile::wink::smile:

Funny but the last time was a BASH tony thread this is exactly what I said... Dude has his hands full and if you cant understand that then I am sorry. How long on a Southwest cue nowadays?? yeah... Well I can see where Tony is coming from. I have 4 kids and two of them are 2 and almost one. I can barely take a crap before picking up the phone to talk to my mother or father.

Any cue-maker that treats any customer the way Zinzola has been accused of behaving is a cheat, crook, liar and scumbag.......and probably should be reported to the Better Business Association, The American Cue-Makers Association, and the local District Attorney's Office for consumer fraud, and of course, banned from AZ.

Having said that, I'm not saying that Zinzola did or didn't do what he's been accused of but it sure doesn't look good based upon the specific details of the complaints, This really sucks and no one should order another cue until Tony Zinzola answers these allegations which ironically seem to comport really well with the explanations and cited timeframes.

Zinzola....are out there reading the shit being written about you........time to grow a pair of balls, try to act like a man and answer these charges. Hiding is cowardly and only incriminates you all the more so. You cue-making reputation will be shit until you exonerate yourself or make things right for all the complainants pronto fast.

Everyone on AZ should spread word of this situation and hopefully after Tony Z sees his sales suffer and his reputation continuing to be soiled, he'll relent and make things right for these unfortunate customers or prove he's not done anything wrong and he's guiltless which is becoming increasingly unimaginable to believe would be true.

I would have to disagree With "cheat, crook and scumbag" from the TZ Threads that I have read it just seems like Tony's a Family man that got way too in over his head and I don't think hes ever gonna make it out? I just think people were sending him a lot of cash and when you have mouths too feed your gonna take it and use it,, Pretty much what I'm trying to say is I don't think his intention were bad he just got in over his head,, I don't think his an Evil Person trying to steal peoples money,, i Talked to him a couple weeks ago (Not about a Custom Cue) and he was a really nice guy, i need him to re-wrap a Production Cue for me,, we talked several times and he is a really busy person and are schedules are not meeting,,, and as far as him not being able to "Run a CNC",,, most of the cues i seen of his are Beautiful,,,,, and with all that being said it really is Sad & unfortunate for the people who lost money,, i think Tony should of reached out for help when he started to realize he was iN over his head

Also this is my opinion and I'm allowed to have one lol Don't Get Mad at me get mad at yourself..............

I used to go to Sunnyside Gardens in Queens one sat a month they used to have wrestling, this was about 72-73, like that. Saw all those guys and Cheif Jay Strongbow, Ivan Koloff, Victor Rivera, the Grand Wizard and Crazy Luke Graham and Tarzan Tyler, what a time that was, lol.
Saw Bruno fight Pedro Morales for the championship in Shea Stadium, forget what year that was, anyone remember ?

Apparently he has his hands full. And as Jive mentioned, he has to resort to lying to his customers.

Coco, that has to be the most sorrowful post I have ever read.

Read between the lines. You send him 2 K and upwards and bottom line, he wants to make his problems, your problems.

Poor Tony. Cue making was fun until he started taking orders and its everyone elses fault that he is in the predicament that he is in. But, he'll gladly accept your money, use it for his living expenses (read problems) and not have a penny to refund nor have your cue ready for you. A few weeks, months give or take, but years, come on now.

Wasn't there one guy who was owed a shaft and it was something like 4 years and it still wasn't resolved.

You could take all the cue makers over the years, all their problems, roll them into one and you still wouldn't get a Tony Zinzola.

Good post I tend to agree, but do you remember Eddie Wheat?

Hey

In the meantime, Zinzola refuses to answer. This is his usual response.....NONE. If and when he does come on, it will be to tell us all how hard his life is, and how much he hates cuemaking.

We should all feel sorry for him, as he keeps ripping off people. Again and again and again.

as I told you in an email Tony, it's sad that this is what your teaching your kids. How to have no ethics, no pride, no integrity.......what a shame.

southwest can take as long as they want since they don't take your money. it's a different situation. also, they take a long time but they are accurate in their delivery expectations and don't deliver stuff 3 years late. you are confusing the two situations. the problem isn't that he's taking a long time, the problem is hes taking people's money and not delivering.

Like you said maybe he's very busy, but let me ask you something, if you're too busy to even talk to your parents would you take on numerous cue orders? if your answer is yes then you're lying.
