Nobody on here knows him, but Bobby Offutt died today. He was just a local pool shooter, but he was a helluva nice guy and a ball to shoot with. The first time i played with him i didnt give him much credit. I thought he was just an old banger, but soon it became obvious that i was outgunned and totally wrong about him. He could cut a ball 80 degrees from one end of the table to the other. He beat the hell outta me, lol. We werent close friends, but i always enjoyed talking to him, and i enjoyed shooting with him even more. I wish i could have played more with him. He will be sorely missed. R.I.P. Bobby.

Well I'll keep you in my prayers,hate losing more potential knowledge.Hopefully you learned something in the times you had with him.:thumbup:
 
Thanks for all the well wishes. Im bummed out, but i feel especially bad for my friend Terry. Terry is a close friend of mine who was a lifelong friend to Bobby, and its painful to know that he has lost one of his best friends. As far as learning something from him, i did learn that all pool players are not created equal. Pool players have a reputation for being scammers, swindlers and crooks, but Bobby was a genuine great guy, he was the kind of guy we need in pool. One of my fondest memories of him is trying to teach him to play one pocket. He would shoot, and id explain why that was the wrong shot and show him all my potential shots and where he should have left the ball, and he was so grateful. He told me "thanks! Ive never had anyone take the time to explain that stuff to me, usually they just kick my ass and ask if i wanna play again!" Lol. He was a good shooter, far better than me, but just never learned one hole. I wish i had showed him more. I thank all of you for your comments. Its a great thing we have here on this website.

Bobby and I were friends since "64" and I never witnessed him being mad or even upset with the game of pool. Super, super guy. God gained an "A" player for his team. Godspeed Bobby.

Pool is a fun and challenging game.. but it's the relationships we have with other players that make it memorable. So many people get caught up in the day to day that they forget to take the time to enjoy the company around them. Sounds like Bobby knew this and enjoyed pool to the fullest. I'm sure he'd be happy to know he was remembered. RIP.
 
Sorry to hear Joe! You know that the characters we come into contact with are the extra added joy of playing the game. Hell, think about how we met. Just from the few times of talking to you when I worked in the pool room, I made a lasting friendship that was brought on by the game. I wish I could take the bad feeling away from the experience that death brings but I can't. What I can say are words that have stayed with me for a very long time. Father William Wentink who just retired as the police chaplin here in Rockford has a saying. He says, "You can die at home, in a hospital or on the highway but truely, it is not how you come to pass, it is the legacy that you leave behind you when you go." Since I heard that statement, I have been busting ass everyday to make that lasting statement of "This is who I am and how I always want to be remembered." Bless you Joe and keep your head up my friend.

Thanks Ryan. You treated me like a friend the first time we met. I appreciate all that you and Duane did for me when I was up there in your neck of the woods. Its truly been too long since we have played pool man. Im gonna make it a point to get up there again this year. You take care of yourself bro.
