what cues do you regret letting go?

Original Ernie Martinez 6 point SW style

Is that the one in the blue book? If so I have it and can sell or trade ;)

P.S. I have a lot of regrets but none about a cue (most likely due to the fact I'm too lazy to sell ...)

> Any of 3 plain-jane Cog's I could have gotten for 550 with 2 shafts in 1993.

Just curious what cues you honestly regret letting go. I know I sell cues when I'm in a pinch and need some cash. Also sell cues just for the hell of it.

Ones I regret letting go of are d-17 that was one of the nicest hitting cues I've owned. A scruggs sneaky I picked up new back in about 99. Sugartree and Bautista sneaky's, and Mason Houghland merry widow cue. The Mason merry widow may well have been the best hitting cue I've ever owned.

The d17 I traded back in about 90, really wish I had kept it. Had a stained j-18 at the same time that I sometimes miss.

The other couple 100 cues I don't really miss all that much.

The only one is this. My first good cue was a Gina from the 1960's, a Titlist with an ebony butt cap, Balabushka style, with large MOP dots. 2 shafts and a leather Gina case. I got it in 1974 by hocking it for a musician named " Cherokee" and he never could pay me back. He needed the money to finance a professional recording session. The initials on the cue were COYT.

In 1985 I had a Corvette that was stolen in downtown Los Angeles and my Gina was in the car. Even back then I knew the cue was special and it was the first thing I thought of. I recovered the car but not the cue. To this day, regretfully, it still stings. I wish I still had that particular cue. I can afford to buy another one, but that one had a lot of memories for me.

A Schon SL13 (not an STL-13), 6-point with green and black veneers. I miss that cue. I can't remember who I sold it to, but I'd buy it back for more than I sold it for. So if you bought it from me on Ebay and want to sell it back to me, shoot me a PM.

Cues

A Harvey Martin with 3 shafts that Bert Schrager sold to me for a c note to use while he worked on another cue. I hocked it with bar owner when I was broke. When I went to buy it back he had sold it to a liquor salesman. Oh, I also regret the custom Josswest and Szamboti that my ex got in the divorce.....

Cues I Miss

Titlist Gina from his first catalog.

A 1997 Searing 4 point ebony hoppe that Dennis had made, played with it for six months, then I bought. It now resides in Munich, Germany.

A 1996 Richard Black 4 point rosewood and B E M that played lights out.

Man, I wish I still had these cues!!!

Cue regrets

Since I never sold any of my cues I have no regrets, however I do regret not buying one.

Miz offered me his Richard Black playing cue for $1200 and I said "no thanks".

Regards,
Hal

Well technically I never owned this cue but I had a Joss West in my hands one time and could have bought it for $75.00, it had points, lots of inlays, etc.

I was in college back then and honestly didn't have the $75.00, I found out later the cue got traded for some cheapo golf clubs.

jw & spain

back in 2001 needed to pay rent, car pament, etc. couldn't find a job so i had to sell my jw. it had sideways w with original felini case. and the next month i sold my spain. it was warped and hit like a rock but it was still a burtain spain. just yesterday i finally replaced my jw. it is a little fancier and 10 years newer but not even close to the same. someday i will replace the b. spain with a hercek

Hagan cue

One of the best playing cues I have owned was a HAGAN cue.

I reget letting it go. I got top dollar for it, and for a cue flipper like me, its tough to say no.

Sold it to Kylin here on AZ and I do wish I had I had it back.

Damn I hate this freaking thread.....

Maybe it will come home again Ken...

i let go an old scrugg's . and a black years ago i wish i had back , but i own 2 from them now so it kinda balances out. I really miss my first cue ever ... a D9 Mcdermott

I had a really nice classic style Paul Mottey. Maple forearm with 4 points of ebony with holly, ebony, holly, ebony veneers, MOP notched diamonds with one MOP dot above the diamond and 2 below, Bushka ring with MOP dots inlayed in the ebony squares, dashed holly rings in an ebony butt end with matching MOP diamonds and dots, delrin butt cap, and ostrich wrap. That cue was nice. I had fallen out of love with pool, needed some cash and sold it to a friend that begged me for it. Bastard ended up selling it to someone else less than a year after he got it. I know the guy that has it now and I have a standing order that if he ever decides to get rid of it to come to me first.

There are two cues that I wish I'd held on to: A plain Tad with ivory joint (I sold it when I was about 17-18yrs old) and a JossWest, made for me, that I sold to a friend about 5 years back.

A Rambow I sold to Tate about 3 years ago, a honey stained plain maple Schick player from the early 80's, ebony on ebony Franklin SW with all the rings, inlayed Omega/dpk, ivory pointed Runde, 8 point JW, very fancy Phillippi, fancy Bender, and the first 8 ivory point Mottey. I miss alot of them, but am also happy with what I have now.

Custom cue built for me by Gus Szamboti with a heart inlay. Hell, I don't even have a playing cue --- had to play with a break cue last week when I played in the local tournament. Maybe I can build one for me ------------
