What do I do ?

He’s not complaining. Don’t feel guilty. Don’t feel anything. Lunch sounds good. Both having fun? That’s a great deal.

Try telling him you’d like to offer a spot because you want to try playing with added pressure for the sake of challenging yourself to improve your game. If he won’t accept that reason then let it go realizing he’s probably doing the same. If he doesn’t accept the spot, these are probably cheap sets to him and not worth thinking twice over. Hypothetically I could play SVB for a penny a game and never mind that I’m down 100-0.

Respectfully, Matt
(I don’t take myself too seriously. I hope you can return the favor.)

offer him two balls, 9 to 7, if he will raise the bet to twenty a game.
who wants to play for 5 dollars anyway thats only half of a sandwich in price.

HAHAHA

I still play for buck a game against a friend of mine at work! He is a horrible shot but I give him a huge spot, we play four games after work every friday.

He gets the breaks and plays regular eight ball. I can only play banks and caroms and I have to play my last ball into a side pocket and that's my pocket for the eight ball.

After four years playing this way I am ahead six bucks:wink:

Maybe he just does not mind? Maybe it's just incidental? Just for fun?

Buy him a lunch and a beer.

I think you are over-thinking this.

Not everybody plays pool for the same reasons....so it’s probably what you’re thinking, Doc.
I think he’s getting his money’s worth.

empty him out.

start with his cash - get all of it, then his jewelry, cars and finally his real estate.

what the hell are you posting on here; your conscience is bothering you?

we have an image to maintain, sir.

Knock it off.

I have been playing one pocket with the same guy for 6 sessions now.
We only play for $5 a game, his choice.
I have won all 6 sessions 3 or 4 games ahead.
Yesterday I won 10 games.
I asked him considering he has never won a session why he didn't ask for a spot.
He said in the past our games have been very close but today I ran 8 and out once and six and out twice and most of the games were not close.
I feel like i'm stealing even for such a small bet.
I just dont feel right doing this, and I dont need the money.
He's a real nice guy, never complains,a real gentleman to play with.
What do i do?
Refuse to play unless he takes some kind of spot?
In 58 years of playing I've never been in this situation.
If it is bothering you, I will be glad to give you my paypal address and you can send the money to me as I need all I can get.
I am old and broke so you could look at it as 'helping out your fellow man'.
Sound okay to you???????
:D:thumbup:

There ya go. Take his woman, dog, cue collection, baseball cards.

I used to play gin with a guy in the 80s who was worth about 90 million.
...he liked my action....I would tell him sometimes that this was the day I would bust him
and beat him for his house....I would tell him I’d let him sleep in the garage for a month
till he got on his feet again, but then he’d have to find a room.
He would say “This guy upsets me!”....

...I think he was right ‘cause I batted a thousand with him....but, damn, I never even sent
him to the ATM....

you guys are vicious
the very thought of busting your fellow man for all he is worth

i am beginning to see myself as a really great guy compared to you guys

the very thought of betting it all, winning it all

this is surely just talk

i have to admit i would like to invite you guys over to the house
for some unfriendly pool, naturally i would need a very large spot
but i would be glad to play for pink slips or house titles

this might breathe life back into these old bones

no more friendly pool
dog eat dog
i like the sound of it
please come to dallas

first off he is a $5 a game player period.
I forgot to mention he told me he played a guy in the room getting 10-5 and lost 40 games in a row.
The same guy he lost 40 in row to at 10-5 gives me 9-6 when he breaks and 9-7 when I break.
I'm not going to offer him anything.
If he asks we will work out a spot.
Just wondered what you guys would do.

Personally, I would start playing a different style game.

I would start shooting shots that are above my pay grade just for the experience of learning new things.

Play more aggressive- that will help him win a few and you'll learn new shots.

Well hallelujah

empty him out.

About time someone said something that made since.

And money is not a concern for him,he has a well paying job and owns some rental properties.
Maybe he does think i'm a charity case.
I am 71 and drive a 2006 car with 193K on it.
But thats by choice not necessity.
I hate car payments.

Rent a Cadillac for a day when you're gonna' play him. Tell him you're thinking about
buying it for cash, but it doesn't have all the options you want. He may ask for a spot.

LOL.
I already do that.
the guy is 2 levels under my speed.

Relax maybe he needs the company. Offer to buy lunch a bear or such.
Maybe he's reeling you in for the BIG ONE.

LOL.

Do not buy him a bear please.

Tell him the game is 9-8. If he won’t accept, punish him. Play safeties instead of those circus shots. If he never makes a ball, he’ll have to change the game.
