What happened to Jim Mataya?

I met Jeanette Lee several years ago and I was very impressed with not only her obvious good looks, the stylishness of her clothes but also her warm and humorous personality. I'm sure Ewa is also a nice person in addition to her obvious good looks. However, some day, both of these wonderful representatives of womens' pool will grow old and not be quite as physically lovely as they are today. Nevertheless, I'm sure that someone will enjoy their company till their dying days. Can you say that?

Oh yeah, I was told about the sandwich, of course I never par taked in that, but it was discussed in great detail to me, One on each side and you in the middle and let your imagination now run wild, because what ever you can imagine, does take place. Every where I went, there was a place which featured that. You do a show and they want to take you our later and treat you with the sandwich. It's there way of rewarding you and showing respect and hospitality. It is one of lifes ultimate fantasies which for a small price does become reality. The ladies over there are simply breathtaking, stunning beyond belief. You just would not belive it, believe it.

I knew when I posted I would get this kind of response, but I guess after about 7 days of the same thing at the Derby it was something different and I needed a laugh. If I was actually playing a match, probably I would feel differently. These people are human just like you and me and have a good and bad side. Every year I go to the derby with old magazines for players to sign (so I can frame them and put them in my room), but when I see them and how they act I just don't have the desire anymore. This year was the first time I have ever (in over twenty years) asked a player for an autograph - because my daughter wanted Jeanette Lee's. She was very professional and super nice - that is why she gets the endorsement deals IMO. Actually all through the week whenever I saw her whether she was in a match, action room or restaurant she carried herself in a dignified manner. For the men, I think the Derby Classic has the right formula - ACTION, ACTION, ACTION! Why do you think this tournament is so successfull? They want to see the colorfull personalities and the high stakes action.

Are Strickland and Maya still active today 10/08/2020? I just wondered what would be like if these two are commentating the games. Maybe they would behave in this venue.

Is that you Fast Larry? I mean, this is your first post here? I think not.

Is that you Fast Larry? ...
If that is FL it would be yet another sign of the apocalypse since FL died a few years ago by his own hand. We don't need another sign of the apocalypse right now.

Bob <-- sad that bomb shelters went out of style in the 1970s

If I had Ewa and she took a hike on me, I would have shot my self in the head. In her prime, that was the all time hottie in pool I ever saw. :D

A friend of mine that was a very good short stop player from Jersey was playing in a tournament back in the 80's.
Ewa was playing on the next table.
He was so distracted by her he couldn't make a ball, and this guy could play.
It's a good thing he got eliminated because if he had to play her it might have killed him.

Oh jeez...sorry. I just saw that he was banned. Then again, 2020 has been a sh!t show. At this point nothing would surprise me.

I was in college when Ewa was in her prime. It always amazed me she was married to that tool. Didn't she wind up marrying the ESPN announcer after divorcing pretty boy?

I have to admit, I liked Jeanette more.

Here is an interview with Jimmy from a few months ago where he gives some history of his whole career and also ends up answering your question. He hasn't played much for many years as I recall. The first half is film of him playing, and the interviewer discussing his career etc, and the actual interview doesn't start until well into the video.

If you want to skip straight to the interview portion, use this link instead as it timestamped to take you right to the start of the interview.

Earl still very actively plays, and still plays at a high level, but he isn't much threat to win a world championship or US Open class event with stacked fields any longer. These days he is doing some commentary since you mentioned it. He has done at least 8 of them pretty recently, or at least they were released recently. Here is a link to the first 7:

Ironically, he said the below in this exact thread. Talk about some foreshadowing. Same method and reason except it was over the loss (death) of his wife like three days before rather than Ewa.

If I had Ewa and she took a hike on me, I would have shot my self in the head.

both jimmy and earl are really nice guys. people tend to look past that and see the bad in people. and many times that bad is just the person doing what they do, and not what you or others expect them to do to your standards.

people at their worst are never liked but they arent at their worst most of the time. so judge accordingly.

Great post and a good way of stating how you see two icons of our game.

Thanks maha.

Jimmy did some posting on here within the last year or so. There was a thread where his name came up and he took exception to some things said about him.
Jimmy was a top speed player (at all games) and a helluva gambler. It took a world champ to take him down and they might not get there either.

My best memory (and I have many) of Jimmy was when we busted the Crap table at the Sands in Reno! We (about six or seven of us) beat the table for over 50 grand with a 200 limit and two times odds! Jimmy had the dice when they shut the table down.

I met both of them and Jeanette could not have been more friendly and nice, Ewa was not very friendly and seemed to have a turd crossways.

I thought I heard he overdosed after his wife died after being hit by a car, or something of the sort.

Ewa is a great lady! She is Scandinavian and they tend to be a little cold at first, until you get to know them. Ewa is super cool with me and I love her to pieces. She shoots straight on the table and talks straight off it, plus she is a great commentator. Very honorable and smart as whip. That is how I would describe her. Oh and she is a true beauty, both inside and out.
