What is the greatest compliment someone has given you?

I got a PM from a fellow, the other day, who had recently purchased one of our Miracle cues. He said he was thrilled with it's performance and in his words: "It's the best cue I've ever owned for shooting around corners."

I've been around the poolroom a time or two, I think we all just about lived or worked in one.
When a person is complimented on the shots or even the effort to execute a shot or even the stroke and follow thru of the final shot it makes a person feel appreciated and being acknowledged by a person of their piers it makes the shooter feel more confident in his or her pool game.

I had someone tell me that I made "the best kick he ever saw" in a Snookers tournament. This is a place where Mike Dechaine and several A and A+ players play in regularly so there is some good kicking going on there, which put me in good company.
It was a 2 rail kick into about 1/8th of side of a ball that he left open. About a 5% chance of a hit really hehe, I got lucky.
Most of the compliments I get is actually about how well my son plays. Dechaine asked me recently how he did in the Jr Nationals, which was tied for 13th out of 51, he said that he plays better than that finish. I think those compliments mean more to me that to my son LOL, I feel really good when I see him play well.

I'm playing call your shot 8 ball in one of our favorite neighborhood bars for pool players. I'm playing this cocky 'shooter' that sharks, etc. I break & am running out. The 3 ball is in the exact middle of the table. I shoot the second to last ball in a foot corner pocket but hit one of his balls & don't come out for the 3 in the side. I'm hooked by all of his balls. I can't even find a kick shot. But...my Dad always told me, 'there's always a shot...you just have to find it'. That is the best pool advice I have ever received.
Anyway I'm looking & looking & then I see a path through his balls with a little more than an 1/8 of an inch clearance AND I have ENGLISH! So...I call the shot 3 rails & cut the 3 ball in that side pocket. I get down figuring how much english do I want to put on it & when I decide I hit it. The cue ball goes through clean hits the rail, comes off the other two & cuts the 3 ball into the center of the side pocket.
He gets up off his bar stool to go shoot & I say, 'where're you going, I called that shot'.
He says, 'oh yeah, you did'.

i have gotten compliments over the years but this one probably means the most to me although i dont believe it an accurate description.of me.
an old man at the pool hall told me a while back that when im on i can hang with any body in the pool hall.
i did get 3 compliments over the weekend in vegas from opposing players.that i ran into later on during the tourny or at the slot machines.
1. man you were amazing ! you reminded me of allison fischer. . i said , huh ? he said yea , he way you looked confident at the table, you made some amazing shots and always got perfect position. you made some great banks and kicks to get out of some safties played on you. well.... me being an apa 5, being just above a banger status being compared to one of the greatest women pro players ever ? i will take it.
2. the captain of an opposing player come up to me and stated... i have been in busch and apa for 17 years and i have never seen anyone make some of the shots you made and get perfect position everytime.he said the shot you made on the 4 in the last rack and came back up table to put the 5 in the same pocket with the 6 hugging up against it. there was no way to make the 5 except by leaving the cue ball exactly where you did. he said i dont know a player in my league that could do that , how were you able to pull it off. i said i saw earl strickland do it one time and i practiced it a lot afterwards.
3. an opposing player came up to me the next day and asked how my team was doing. i said we were eliminated. he said what ? i said yea it just was not our day. he said when his team was up 45-35 against us going into the 5th match it was a sure win for them and then i came up and shut him out 20-0, he thought i would carry my team to the finals the way i played.i told him it was a team effort, it takes more than one player.
keep in mind these were all apa bangers tellin me this, not serious players like most of you guys on here.

When I beat Willie Munson playing Banks for the cash. Supposedly it was his best game and he was the Wisconsin State Champ back then, with many good players. He handed me the dough and said, "I had no idea you played that good!"
Vernon Elliott told me I was "F'n terrible". Best compliment I have received.
In 3 of my last tournaments I had opponents compliment my break; which was awesome to hear.
About a month ago, an opponent said to his friend "watch this ... this is his 'soft break'" just as I was getting down (barbox 9 ball, I take it down a bit). After the match, the friend comes over, drops a dollar in the table and says "Let me see your real break." I crack 'em, make 2, get a shot on the 1 and wiggle my hand in that "eh, not bad" manner. He says "I'll never be able to do that, and you're just okay with that break?!"
But, the best this yet was just this past Monday. The night before I left Vegas, I got to play a little with Mike Fieldhammer who happened to bring Jesse Engle along. We were playing ring-10-ball on the 10 footer at Best Billiards and after one of my breaks, I got the SVB-hop working, I hear Jesse say "Perfect break."
I guess the work I've put in is starting to pay off. Still have a lot of work to do, in my opinion, as I lose whitey way more than I'm happy with.

I always like to gamble cheap.
Buddy Hall would come over and watch me play. He didn't say anything to me while I was playing but afterward he would show me what I show have done in a couple situations he watched.
He said, "You really get over ball well. "
Lots of stuff I do bad, but at least I get over a ball well. The only thing about Buddy that is tough to take is he points and says you should bring "jeff" right here. Hell, I knew where I should put it, I just didn't have the skills to get it there.
Buddy can put a cueball in ANY location he damn well pleases, and has a hard time understanding not everyone can do that.
He is a hoot.

Max-I made a hanging 9ball in the corner. Hit the ob into the rail, to play off the backside of a blocker near the side, to let cb hug the rail, and make the 9, from half table away.
Parica-On a 1P takeout on a ball near his pocket, made a double kiss into my pocket. Note-race to three. I made 3 balls. The first two were game winners for Jose. The last, was the double-kiss...and the eyebrow thing took away some of the pain and embarrassment.
Both matches were fun. Got spanked, but , knew that going in.

I won a junior snooker tournament when I was 13 and the winner got to play a 1 frame exhibition against Steve Davis.
I broke and got lucky leaving the CB right up behind the green. Steve says "well you've got me in all kinds of trouble here kid, well played".
He gets out of it, I play another safe but fail, and he proceeded to knock in a 147. I was 13 playing my idol and I got 2 shots, what a heartless bast...! Ha.
One of the best moments of my life, even if I did only get 2 shots.

A good friend of mine who is 78 and I'm 35 play a lot of 1 pocket on the weekends for a few hrs! Any way, this past Sunday I was playing pretty good and I've been practicing my 1 rail kicks into my hole!!! So, he says to me, ya know Eli, you bank and kick as good as earl heisler,(forgive me if I misspelled), and he said with such a serious face!!! I never got a nicer compliment
An old hustler told me I got the cash a lot more often than I was supposed to considering how poorly I played.
