What is the greatest single achievement in sports?

James J. Braddock.
A boxer during the Great Depression, his story are what legends are made of. There are quite a few great stories in boxing, but James story has it all... from going on welfare, struggling to feed his family too winning the heavyweight championship of the world, from one of the scariest fighters of that era, Max Baer. If you haven't heard of this man, you can watch the movie with Russell Crowe "Cinderella Man". Attached is his wiki

This is a tough one but here goes:

Travis Trotter beating his daddy.

DCP deciding on what equipment to use.

Roger Federer's recent Aussie Open win after a 6 month layoff and a 5 year Grand Slam drought and considering he beat his biggest foe too.

I remember the Little League World Series a few years back and they said Kiko Garcia hit 17 home runs in the Regional before the World Series.

Jon Jones winning UFC light heavyweight fights drunk.

Oscar Robertson averaging a triple double over the course of a season blows away a 100 point game.

I've been waiting for someone to mention this one but it's been left out.

The greatest has to be the

STAR BANGLED BANNER

Before the event.

Cliff young......austrialian potato farmer.....

61yrs old 1983....544+ mile race sydney to melborne.....won by over 10 hours, shattered previous record for running between the two towns by over 2 days.

Trailed most of the first day and took lead at night and never trailed again.

wore gum boots.....

how strong is that lol

1936 Berlin Olympics, Jesse Owens

I'm thinking that he was under just the tiniest bit of pressure growing up in Jim Crow America, traveling to a nation that was filled with a large number of people that ALSO didn't consider him human, and likely wanted him dead. All the while, Hitler was staring him down from that concrete box at the track.

Hercules had it easy...

He's tougher than a two dollar steak!!!

Maniac

I would say Nadia Comaneci . No gymnast had ever scored a perfect 10 before her yet Nadia scored a perfect 10 in 7 events.

2nd place for me is Byron Nelson winning 11 PGA golf tournaments in a row (1945). I wouldn't think it was possible and I don't think that will ever be done again.

Earl's 11 rack run of 9 ball on demand for $1,000,000 is right up there.

Byron Nelson to me is the greatest and it will never be done again.

No really don't like the sport. It's right up there with soccer for me. I'm a baseball guy. #redsox

Not the same here. I like football but other than that if it dont have an engine I aint interested. When people talk to me our local teams my most common response is that "the Brewers can leave and take the Bucks with them".

If we're talking endurance feats, take a look at this 3,422 mile footrace from Los Angeles to New York in 1928!

Eric Heiden winning the short, medium and long distance Olympic medals all at the same time. Needing a different body is Extremely important in track and field to win, he did it in all distances. Something that Bolt and any other Olympian has never done.

This was immediately who I thought of

Even though I mentioned Jim Pollock in wrist wrestling in Petaluma, I would give an honorable mention to Louise Suggs in womens' professional golf. She won everything in her day. And I mean everything. Takes you back to the persimmons. And she was good.

All the best,
WW

Travis Pastrana,s double back flip on a dirt bike.A difficult cutting edge trick with lots of risk to life and limb.Could of canceled xgames after he landed it!!!

There's been lot's of answers to the OP's question, and good ones too.
But we've yet to arrive at a consensus. Which reply describes THE greatest moment in sports?

P.S. I always thought the intro to the Wide World of Sports program was pretty salty. The one where the ski jumper gets off course and tears the living hell out of everything on his way down the jump. Add a little of Goofy's, "Whoo-whoo-who-who!", and it would be perfect.
