If I had to recommend any of the new gadgets, devices, DVD's and such that came out in the last 5 years I would say the Magic Rack and Ridgeback Rails do what they are advertised to do. What do feel does what it's suppose to do? Please no bashing of products. Johnnyt

What I feel are accessories that work really well from the last few years:

- Tiger Le Manifik tip tool
- Several layered tips like Ultraskin and G2
- Plexi glass bridge (so you can see through it) with integrated ball marker http://www.doubledavecues.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=96_354&products_id=3989
- OB classic shafts (there are quite a few other shafts that perform really well, but most have been around more then 5 years).

I will think of a few more.

gr. Dave

When did Kamui tips come out? At least the Black versions?

If recently, I vote the Black Soft. If there was a "blah blah product of the decade", I'd vote for the Kamui Black tips for that. There was probably more buzz about that tip than any since Mr Moori started making tips.

Although the ones that Renfo sells are very, very good from the one Soft I have tried, which, by the way, was a replacement for my Kamui Black Soft which I have gone though 2 of.

Magic Rack is another product for sure that does exactly what it should with simplicity and low cost.

Magic Rack for sure. Does exactly what it says it will do. Also, I don't know when it came out (possibly more than 5 years ago), but the Joe Tucker 3rd Eye Stroke Trainer is the real deal. If you use it and do the drills with it you WILL develop a better straighter stroke and better alignment.

Many new tips and chalk have emerged in full force the last 5 years, many of which I would say are suspect as to whether their prices justify the performance of cheaper alternatives. Also, in regards to tips, for me its been more about the decline of quality of Le Pro tips than the improvement of layered tips that forced me to make a change. Right now ive been playing with Kamui Clear and Softs. Im miscuing alot lately and its making me lose alot of confidence in extreme draw, so I might be trying out new tips here in 2014.

I think that the biggest improvement in pool in the last 5 years has been live streaming. It existed prior to 5 years but it has made remarkable jumps in quality and availability.

Of the gadgets that ive tried and liked,
1) Alex brick jump cue made out of diamondwood (sp?).
2) Break Rak (is it older than 5 years? maybe)
3) Magic rack/slug doctor. Although I mainly use my delta 13.
4) that iphone app that tracks break speed is pretty interesting but of limited overall use beyond providing interesting data once in a while.

Same here. Switched to Triangle chalk and the problem is gone.

Steve Klapp's old growth shaftwood. Best shaftwood to be made available...ever.

New Kamui tips

I switched from a 13.00 medium tip on my original Joss shaft to an 11.75 Kamui Clear SS on an OB-2 shaft and the difference in the amount of spin I can get now is astounding.,not to mention the OB shaft seems to have improved my accuracy on long shots with english as well. Both are fine products that I would recommend to anyone.

I'll add my name to the list of those who really like OB shafts...

Absolutely cue extensions of all shapes and sizes have come into their own in the last five years. The Magic Rack is here to stay but imo the Delta 13 steel rack is the best triangle ever made. All these new shafts, beginning with Predator to OB, Tiger and Jacoby are a real step forward in the game as well.

IMO the "TV" balls were a step backward. I like the look of the old balls much better, even on television. There's a reason why they created these exact colors eons ago and I feel it's almost a sacrilege to change them. Someone years ago explained to me the meaning of the colors chosen and why it works so well for pool. I've forgotten all the details but it was a most interesting analysis that went way beyond pretty colors. It had to do with the colors of the spectrum and how they all blend together, that's all I can remember now.

I agree with you 100 percent about the ball colors Jay. Also with more streams broadcasting in HD they really are rendered pointless. Truthfully I never thought they did their job that well anyway.

I like the Kamui Gator Grip it scuffs the tip wonderfully without a mess of material being removed. (i still like my orig Kamui 0.98 chalk too)
