What speed of player would it take to beat a wourld class
player with the 7 and the break on a bar table?

On a valley or diamond pro cut? On a Valley it would not take a huge amount to give a guy a chance to snap off a decent length set getting the 7 and the break. Alot of open ranked players in the BCA and VNEA in Vegas each year have too much speed to give up that kind of weight.

Giving the breaks and the 7 to a B+ or an "A" player is huge. If you're talking a 7' Valley with standard factory pockets the world class pro doesn't have to like it at all. If you can beat the 9-ball ghost w/o ball in hand more than 50% of the time you are the favorite to win IMO. Do't forget you only need to go to the 7...not the 9 and he never gets to break. Johnnyt

If King Kong plays this top player with the 7 and the breaks, I think I'll bet on Kong..

So that level

you gotta remember that you could get all the weight in the world and may never see it. You could get the 5 out and if your opponent never lets you shoot then hows it gonna help you. Players like to foam at the mouth over big weight, then get robbed when all they can do is kick 2rails for their ball lmao.

weight is only good if your good enough to use it

If an A player or better doesn't get up there with this spot on a bar table, you have to question their ticker.

The pro doesn't get to break and the "B" or "B+" player only has to get to the 7 for a game win. If he can make the wing ball (easy to do on BB) and have a shot on the 1-ball, I can't see the pro winning this. Johnnyt

It depends on a couple of factors... how long a race are we talking about? And, how good can the lesser player break?? I think, that in a race to 10 or less, if his break is working, a B player can win with that spot. If his break isn't working, he will most likey lose.

I'm rated an A here. In our Sat. tourney, I have to give the breaks and the call 7 to a B- player. On a diamond table, he put me in the losers bracket 7-3. He broke and ran 3 of his 7. In the losers bracket, his break didn't work for him, and I beat him 5-2.

A pro is going to be much better than me, but I think it shows how important the break CAN be.

I agree Neil. Like I said above. If he can make the wing-ball a good % of the time and control the QB for shot at the one he should win more often than not. Johnnyt

I'd like to hear John S take on this. Or Dennis Hatch...he was posting a lot here...where did he go? Johnnyt

Oh on the bar box with the breaks, yea I agree....I'm always on a big track state of mind.

also to rememer to about speed, it depends on the type of "speed"
Brand name is better than generic lmao....just kidding guys

Depends on how well the break is working, as Neil said. On a good day, on a loose bar table where I'm making 1 or 2 balls on every break, I could beat Efren with this spot, and I'm a B player. When you're getting the breaks, it shouldn't mater who you're playing; it should only matter how good YOU'RE playing. Even if you lose the rack every single time you let him come to the table, you still win the match if you run out more than half of your breaks.

This looks like a no brainer on a 7' Valley to me. OK which healthy "B+" player on here is going to step up and challenge SVB or someone close to his speed getting the 7 and the breaks? Johnnyt

i don't believe that at all. i've played in a league before and i've seen some good players but i still think they'd get beat getting that kind of weight from a pro player.

i'm figuring every mistake is going to cost about 2 racks so unless you're stringing 2's and 3's on a regular basis you're going to be in a bad game even with the 7 and the breaks

I'm not truly B+, but I'd love to!

...as long as I'm getting backed and getting my expenses paid. I'm a cheap SOB, and I have no gamble.

How will one mistake cost you two racks when you are getting all the breaks? Johnnyt

The only Barbox action I ever really see is at Valley Forge and that always just makes me think they are a joke. EVERYONE (except myself) is running out from everywhere. It turns into a break contest. Make a ball and see the lowest and its an automatic out. I would say a solid B+ player (who plays on both 7' & 9' table) would be the favorite in this game, but not by much. Which I guess makes me a solid F+ player, because I would need more.

whups i completely forgot about that. i'm still thinking it's a bad game. i think i play decent bar box 9 ball (so far the most racks i've run on a valley is 7) and i wouldn't take that game for my dough
