Whatever happened to BUCKTOOTH ?

I think the ridicule he took at the last Derby City Classic he attended took a little wind out of his sails.

I have only met him in person once. He was genuinely charismatic and amiable.

When pool punches one in the mouth, one eventually learns how to avoid the hit.

Bucktooth is one of pool's unsung heroes. He gave action and entertainment to many.

He was in Vegas at the BCA tournament in July last year....Met him in the hall way.....Outgoing personality and friendly...
Pulled out a wad of money from his left pants pocket...Then a wad from his right pants pocket...Then a wad from the left and then the right coat pocket..Literally had thousands on him...A real character.....Said He was ready for action....

I used to have a newspaper article about Bucktooth but lost it with a PC that went south on me.
This story had Bucktooths history from early in his life until the piece was written. To say the least it was very interesting and fun to read. It gave me a new appreciation for this mans life in the pool world. I wish I had the time to dig around and find his story again but we are buried in snow and even now I type this with my thumbs while sitting in a road grader broken down(the grader not cuebuddy).

I've always thought that if half the stuff he says is true, his life story would make a great book!

He live in Castro valley. The last time I tried to play him he wanted. 9-6 from me. I offered it to him betting $500 a set and he said it wasn't enough. I'm sure no one has ever dumped their backer playing him right?

I'm sitting here at my pc waiting for WalMart Pharmacy to call and tell me my stent medicine prescription is ready to pick up while the snow sticks to everything but the road. Supposed to get 3-5 inches Wednesday:eek: Down to my last pill tomorrow.

Be well, Pushout. We're supposed to get our snow Wednesday too. Right now, the sun it shining, but it's 29 degrees. Brrr! :frown:

Good luck on getting your meds, I hope things workout.
We have received 15 feet of snow since Christmas and we have another four day snow event starting tonight. I run a crew of 25 professional snow fighters and we are backed into a corner taking punches. I've been here a few times and will get through it this time. I must get through this so we can get ready for the flooding this spring.

I dont think it was ridicule.

Bucktooth got Bucktoothed.

Apparently he didnt like it when he got what he had been giving for years.

When I was growing up, we called it, "Dont put it out if you cant take it."

I guess it depends on how you look at it. I tend to see the good in most people, rather than always looking for the worst. Bucktooth brought a lot of joy and entertainment to many in the pool world for as long as I can remember. It was the aftermath of that incident that I am referring to, the ridicule by those always looking for the worst in another, but piling on, the bully mentality. It's the same kind of thing you see on flame threads. People come out of the woodwork to kick somebody when they're down and contribute very little positive nuggets.

All I know of him I read in the book Playing off the Rail. If half the stuff about him in that book is true I would love to be in a room with him playing somebody.

Here in South Carolina a half inch closes everything. We're ex-New York so it's not as tough for us to drive in but it's the people going either 15 mph or 50 that's the problem. My buddy is from Buffalo, NY. He was there for two weeks at Christmas for the {for Buffalo} light dusting of 52 inches!

I'll ask at The Jointed Cue if he has been in there. Used to see him
there quite a bit. He may show at the Stonier Memorial Tournament
next month or the Chuck Markulis Tourney at Hard Times.

Bucktooth

I see him a couple of times a week, he plays in one of our leagues and hangs out at Crown in San Ramon. He has had a jewelry store for years and I have purchased a number of items from him. He seems a lot more even-keeled then when I first ran into him, he has a good sense of humor and still shoots a good stick.

Cards

Bucktooth still gambles but mainly plays cards.

He did have a jewelry store and real estate that kept him quite wealthy.

Hasnt played a ton of pool in the last 10-15 years but he does show up at some tournaments once in a while but he does play cards.

was always fun watching him woof

I haven't seen or heard of him since he packed up his pool hall here in manteca adnd set sail. Glad to know hes well and still around the industry.

i have been collecting autographs of all the famous and infamous people in pool for over 30 years .

I was at a DCC and asked the Tooth for his in the lobby.
Of course he had an entourage with him of people enamored with him and people trying to figure a way to rob him.
He told me he never signed autographs because once you put your signature on a piece of paper , someone could write anything and the crowd loved it.
I thought about it a while and while I understood where he was coming from , I wanted it even more now , knowing that he didn't spread them around.
I got a piece of stationary from the desk and wrote,
This piece of paper is for an autograph from Bucktooth Cook only.
It is in no way meant as a legal document or an IOU or a transfer of any goods or services and the owner of the paper has no legal rights to any legal recourse today tomorrow or any day in the future.
I don't have it here in front of me but this is the gist of what the paper said.
I left a tiny space at the bottom for his signature assuring that nothing could be added at a later date.
I walked back up to him and he kind of gave me the evil eye thinking I was going to dog him about it .
When I handed him the paper , he read it and smiled and signed it.
Now the groupies all wanted to know how I got him to sign something after that speech.
Pretty nice of him to share the spotlight even if it was just for a moment.
