Unfortunately, when the game had a chance to take off, after The Color of Money, was released, the people running the show were all in the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. The only key they could sing in was,me,me,me,me.
I was in a room tonight, full of players. I had brought several copies of my book with me hoping to maybe, sell a few. I ran into an old friend and sold one. Then I sat down and had dinner. The cook was also looking at my book, but didn't buy one. I left the copy he was looking at on the counter. The house man came over and told me, "I would appreciate it if you didn't come in here peddling your book. I let you do it once but I don't want you in here selling it anymore." I put the book in my briefcase and agreed to his terms. I finished eating and walked over to talk to some of my friends. I left the room shortly there after.
What does this have to do with this post?
I was in a poolroom trying to sell something connected to the game of pool and I was told to stop what I was doing. The person that owns the room and I have never got along. He's one of the boys in the choir. I thought we had put our differences aside. He was sick in the hospital and I sent him a free copy of my book. If my book ever caught on and sold a ton of copies the game and this room owner might benefit from a possible movie.
It's the short sited people this game has always attracted that has kept it from going anywhere. Most of them live day to day.
I'm involved in a huge endeavor right now. I'm putting together a second sight for the New England Pool and Billiard Hall of Fame. I'm trying to do my part. Make the public aware of all the great pool and billiard players, New England has produced.
We can't get discouraged. We need to get organized and get rid of the choir boys.
