What's your best Keith McCready story?

Danny Harriman said:
I am sure Keith does not remember the story as I told it, the fact remains he was giving me counsel about why I should not have come on this forum and ratted out Brady Behrman about how he owed me $ for a tournament. He said that would never get me paid and was very vocal that day at the Glass City Open. I did not bring the issue up, he was the one that started giving me advice about how I should conduct my business. He said he could get me paid if I really wanted the $, I asked him to play and he said he would take a ball playing bank pool. I normally get along with Keith real well Jam but that day he wanted to give me advice on something he new nothing about. He said I had too much pride cause I wanted to get paid from Brady, and could not just let it go.

I do tell it how it is and even though I like Keith and think he is wonderful for the game, he was out of line that day talking loud in the restaurant of the Clarion and it was a little embarassing to me. I was a little hot at the way he acted towards me so I asked him to play and he did want a ball playing banks. I think he probably needed a ball that day as he seemed a little under the weather, I do believe that Keith and I would have matched up if I would have been playing in the seventies, it would have been kinda fun even if I would have lost. I apolagize Jam if I came off sounding like I was the greatest thing since 7 up (I don't think I am) Keith just had me fired up that day and I have not talked to him since that incident. I had just lost to Johnny Archer watching him prep the table before our match in the finals and soft break me to death, Keith came over and brought up bad memories about Brady Behrman and he may not have known it but I went $3,100 in the hole on Brady's event. Brady had lied on this forum saying that he had paid me part of what was owed and Keith was telling me to forget about it and not to cry about it on the forums. What still amzes me is they made me out to be the bad guy even though I was very patient with Brady for two yrs. Any how that is all water under the bridge, I have some accu stats of Keith and he will always be one of my most favorite players to watch. Again I apolagize I guess I was just a little hot about our last conversation (Keith and I) I have much respect for Keith and I realize he is much more popular than myself - which I can live with.

No harm, no foul, Danny. I appreciate you taking the time to write a very nice post about why you feel as strongly as you do about that topic.

I know which Glass City Open that was that you are talking about, and I was not there. Though I arrived there the first night, I left almost as soon as I arrived, after depositing Keith there. Things happen for a reason, though. When I arrived home, I had to an emergency job for my business which, if I had not been home, would not have gotten done.

Brady Behrman is a friend of Keith's (and mine too, for that matter). I do understand your anger about getting paid. I have experienced some strong anger in the pool world myself that is hard for me to let go of. In that regard, you and I are the same. Great minds think alike, I guess! :)

I am sure Keith was feeling no pain in Toledo at that tournament, and he probably should have picked a better time to speak with you about that topic, out of courtesy to you.

Danny, you're a young man who seems like a gentleman player, in my eyes. I am going to offer you a wee bit of advice, and I hope that you take it from an oldster like me in the spirit that it is meant. I think you should say The Serenity Prayer in this instance, to accept the things you cannot change, courage to change the things you can, and wisdom to know the difference.

And you know what, Danny, feeling so much anger about it, the only one who gets hurt is you. Try to let it go, if you can. Again, I understand why it is difficult, but maybe you could put that anger energy into something positive for yourself.

You seem like such a good kid. I will NEVER forget when you broke the balls on TV at the ESPN Zone. What was it? Six balls on the break in 7-ball? WOW!

Then there's that ketchup commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ut4AdY5CkFY

Pick your fights wisely, and remember to always hold your enemies close to your heart. There's a reason for that, which you may or may not already know. You have a bright future ahead of you. Pool is cool, but happiness and health is better.

I would have played him 14.1 back in the seventies no spot allowed.

Bet, bet, bet, bet, bet, bet, bet!

You just may not have liked it, and you may have. We'll never know!

Hey Jennie,I am alittle late to the party but the guy who won the Joss Tour event in Albany who owned a pool room in Newburgh NY was my friend Dave Pinkston who went undefeated and actually formally introduced me and you.He is good friends with another gentleman you might know named Earl Herring who is a great player also from Newburgh.I cant wait to get back to NY to see these 2 guys, they have affected me in the world of pool for life,in a positive way I must say.

Okay,,,, A good Keith McCready story lets see: I am a twenty two year old female pool player. Last Call for 9-ball tournament in Atlantic City one of my firsts, I was wandering around the green room by myself (with my cue in tow). Lots of action in this amazing room full of my favorite kinda people. My sponsor, at the time Gene Tivnan sound asleep unknowing. While I was roaming I notice a very colorful character challenging other players to any game they wanted,,,, , money, one pocket, nine ball, straight, weight whatever. I suppose I got to close because he then noticed me (suppose it could have been worse) and probably since I was nearly the only woman with a pool stick in the room, thought to himself ,,,$$$ THIS WILL BE CAKE$$$ Don?t get me wrong this is a fond memory.
So I too summed Keith up and decided he was drunk and still drinking,, I stood a chance with all the weight he was giving me (( the last 5 race to 7(((( Cant lose I figured. I was perfect prey not even playing with my own money. He was the best at his job I have to say. The way he tripped and sauntered and that stroke so awkward I thought. During each of the 3 sets at 3 am I would get to the hill and miraculously he would shoot the numbers off the balls. I went down in a ball of flames, because not only did I lose the 3 sets, I had to call up to Gene?s room and tell him I needed him to bring me $300 to pay some guy named Keith I just lost 3 sets to. KEITH WHO???????
This is one of my best (and I think) it will never be beat memories.. Thanks Keith

Hilarious!

Liz,

I had to laugh out loud imagining the look on your sponsor's face when he found out you had just taken on Keith . . . with his money! Sounds like it was only a little painful though and worth it for the story.

I love that story!

Around 1980 Tony Annigoni ran a major 9-ball tournament in San Francisco. Everybody was there: Sigel, Buddy, Varner, Jimmy Reid, to name a few. There was a practice/action table set up in a separate room, and Keith got into a session of long-rack banks with Texas Youngblood -- something like race to five for $500 or $1000. Keith was getting 9-8. In one early rack Youngblood owed a ball, banked nine in a row, and lost! After that Youngblood was toast.

My buddy matched up with Keith several years ago in Vegas on a bar table. My buddy won 13 games to Keiths 1 and that ended that. Later at the Splash bar Keith found my buddy and challenged him to a rematch and said he can believe he lost 13-1 to him, my buddy clamly replied, "yeah, I still don't know how I lost that game." He then declined the action and went on his way. One of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life! No disrespect to Keith, but come on, that is funny!

I saw Keith playing Swanee at the Sports Arena in Anahiem Hills, CA. It was a tournament and Swanee had Keith 6-1 in a race to 7. The tables were tight pocket Rebco tables and Swanee broke and came up dry. Keith jump up out of his chair a said "that just cost you the set" in front of 100 people. He then ran 6 and out. He had that kind of confidence and talent. Unbelievable player, one of the best ever.

A picture with Keith & Swanee playing long ago when they were both monster players. I have good memories/stories of them both. Keith is the tall good looking guy to the left in the picture chalking his cue. Swanee is in the back to the extreme right bending over the table shooting. Picture quality is not the best :sorry:

You're bad Jay.

Here is a funny story about Keith. It's on the light side and I'm sure he would chuckle about it if he remembers it.

He was in a small local tournament a good numbers of years ago. It was eight ball on the bar table. His opponent was up to shoot and got confused as to what group he had. He shot a ball in the wrong group and Keith jumps out of his chair and calls foul.

The other guy realizes his mistake and sits down. Keith then takes ball in hand and proceeds to pocket a ball but also in the wrong group. Now the other guy jumps out and calls foul. Boy did we all get a good laugh out of this

the best story?
watching alex p. drill him on the bar box in louieville a few years ago....SNAP! won 500 on that....thx
