When did Johnny Archer Retire??

Danny has been around a long time... I remember him playing back in the early 90s maybe even late 80s
the 9 and last 4 seems like a lot for the Danny I remember... BUT I think Danny was not able to play for say 5-10 years

Atlanta Danny I believe some called him.

You are correct on all accounts. Danny is, in a way, "coming out of retirement" too.

I would bet the farm against Johnny is this game. There is no way he can give Danny Green that much weight and win. Sure Danny doesn't play as good as he use to but come on!! The guy is still an Open level player and has been known to catch a gear when the heat is on. I played Danny once at Orange Ball Billiards in a weekly tournament. Race to 5 and I break first and run up to the 6 ball before missing an easy bank in the corner  Danny steps up and runs out and the next 3 rack until he locks me up on the side of the 7 ball in game 4. I kick and miss and that was that... He finished the rack and then broke and ran out the hill game.

At that time I was playing about a solid A speed and he played nothing less then a stone cold champion. That was just 3 years ago so to say that JA has got this is just plain stupid. Lay everything you got on Danny Green. He's gonna wipe the floor with Johnny in this game!!

Sorry Johnny I love ya but you made a bad game. Get out while you can :shakehead:

Danny Green? He said Greer- Anyway JA can give either one the 7

He ask to double the bet, and Johnny declined....that's an advanced physiological move and it may have worked. No one can play two sets like that "back to back" and Francisco knew it.

I played Francisco and Johnny many times and they are both top notch gamblers because of their "high gear" offense. Efren played a hair better, but he didn't have the ability to barrage as well as JA and FB. imho

That's a very close account of what happened in Toledo OH in the early 90's. Archer actually lost the 1st set in a race to 13. In the 2nd set Archer won the flip and ran the set out, 13 racks. Bustamante asked Archer to dbl the bet and Archer lost 13-7. I only missed this epic feat by 2 days. I went there with Richie Rich two days after this happened and saw the table Archer did the run on<<< He signed the table:-). People were still talking about it....

That's exactly right, Atlanta Danny. I watched him play some guy in Houston in a marathon 8 ahead set with some guy called Indian something?? and he grinded it out forever but fell a short in that session, but he played real hard for the cash...I think he's kind of legendary in the pool gambling world, at least back then:-)

Johnny has gambled a few times in the last 15 years...so I don't think he was ever retired from gambling.

He dusted off Corey, Henny, Bobby Pickle, and Larry Nevel that I'm aware of. I'm sure there were a few more in there. I remember him giving a young SVB like the 7 and 8 once and they quit for the night. Next day Johnny saw the light and I don't think they ever had a "raw" gambling matchup since.

having a lot of gamble is not something to strive for imo. Guys with a lot of 'gamble' always need backers and always have a small funeral-Wonder why?

He was just a top shortstop.

Atlanta Danny was just a top shortstop, a hair under Eugene B., Robert S. and Mike Johnson... "7 Ball Material" as we used to call it.

There are some other talents he has though, I'll just leave it at that. ;)

Just curious as to where on a scale like the one i will list below you would consider shortstop level..

AAA

B

Sometimes I think you post, just to see CJ on the screen.

If he's on "another level" in the "gambling game" he sure could be extremely rich if he wanted to play any number of people in the country or World.

Yes, Johnny, at one time was one of the best gamblers in the world. He quit in the late 90s to concentrate on tournaments.

My suggestion would be to bet on JA......he's on another level in the "gambling game".

Danny Greer? That makes much more sense. The 7 would still be too much for Danny Green but if you say so....

Danny Green would have zero chance beating Johnny Archer with the 7. There are players that can't beat Archer with the 7 that can spot Danny Green. I don't think you really understand how little weight matters to champions like Archer. It was actually the 7 & the last 3 that Archer gave Hennessee and Archer won. If you think Danny Green can beat Hennessee I'm sure you can get all the action you would want.

A classic match of tortoise and the hare!!!

Archer is slow and Danny is fast!

KD

Kid, you and I both know that Danny would *never* get himself in a game that he didn't have a chance to win. He's one smart pool cookie! Always has been and always will. Him an White Max trapped Keith one time. It only hurt for a little bit. :grin-square:

Okay. I think I may not be understanding this thread.

Who did Johnny Archer play? Was it Danny Greer or Danny Green? There is a difference. ;)

TIA!

I dunno about that. I always encourage opponents to jack the bet when we are doing anything that I do better than them.

Not to say the man is a nit, but there are plenty of action men- and women- on the AZB.
