When Did You Know AZB Forums was Family?

It might have been when ...

A couple people took up for me when I first started and JAM gave me a hard time (mostly good-natured fun) ...

JAM sent me an autographed photo of her boyfriend for taking the comments in stride ...

A poster to remain nameless made a bet with me and upon finding out his profession I offered to make a purchase, he sent me the product free and paid off the bet ...

You see the generosity of members here, donating cues, sending out game room supplies free of charge, etc ...

So many people knew me as "iba" at the DCC ...

Terry Ardeno repped me for the first time and his comments seem so sincere (thanks Terry for making AZB a better place)

I met so many posters in person and have had great times ...

I have a memorable time here at AZB.. made a lot of friends & learned a lot about people too. My time spent online is limited, so I have to use it wisely. I visit the forum, the sell or trade & I'm off & running for another day. Sometimes I will post, if I feel I can lend something to the discussion..

Good Luck to all of my family..

Most of you don't know me, but I know most of you. :) I hope to become part of the family!

I've been reading pool groups off and on for several years. I've never been an avid poster, mostly because I didn't feel that I could contribute anything that someone else on the board wouldn't know more about than myself. But lately I've been trying to chime in a little more and also less afraid to ask my silly questions.

I remember so well the first "blow" - I was an avid reader of RSB in the late 90's. At the time it was filled with great minds, and one of them was Jim Meador. Intelligent and oh, so funny! Then one morning I read a gut-wrenching post, I think by his son, that Jim had suffered a heart attack the night before and was no longer with us. It was like getting hit in the stomach.

Then there was CCB and the heartbreak of losing Chris Cass after he fought so hard to stay with us. He was from the midwest, and so I ran into him at tournaments now and then. Chris was an absolute saint, and the loss was very hard to take.

It's amazing how you can form an attachment in this medium, and to people who don't even know who you are let alone that you enjoy their company! :)

Pool in general is a "family" that I have missed after having to give up travelling for a few years. Now that I should be able to start doing that again, I am so looking forward to seeing those people again.

I realized AtoZ was a family when people who suck up to Mr. Wilson get looked after like little children whom he fondly protects and looks after.

Hmmmm....nice post, and red rep too!

Just which family member are you? The red headed stepchild or the crazy uncle that lives in the basement.

It always gets one person to take a nice thread and F#*k it up

For some time I would check out AZ on an irregular basis. I joined because I wanted to purchase a cue off a listing in the forums. I then started to run through some of the threads and then some more well by now you know that I got hooked like all of you. I have a life long love of the game and enjoy the comments, educational or funny especially and feel a bond with all the good guys and gals who take the time to share. We don't have a lot of quality tournements within 300 miles of where I live and even less quality players so I sometimes live vicarously through your posts. It is really kind of eerie to recognize a sense of belonging as one begins to "feel" for others even on a shallow, anonymous, digital sort of way. At the recent Tx Open I got immense satisfaction out of meeting "offically" some fellow AZ'ers. I look forward to reviewing on a daily basis and post without fear of reprisal, to the chagrins of you all. Another good thread Melinda, Hmmm..., Who needs Dr. Phil or Oprah when you have Trigger?

LOL. There are two distinct differences between me and Oprah. She doesn't gamble at all - and well, that's my biggest vice! And two.... she's got just a little bit more money than I do. :)

It ain't the money that makes you who you are, it is your kind heart. The more you give the more you receive. Kinda like life. IMO

I completely agree.

However, if I had more money, I could gamble more. See? LOL!

OHB was a good guy... we had a few spats over the years, but I got to know him at the DCC in Jan06. Truly a great guy. He passed shortly thereafter....

and yes, when I lost my cues and Eric. went way out of his way to get them for me... I repaid him with beers earlier this year at VF... :p

When did I know this forum was like a family?? It was just the other day when Ray invited me to stay at his home enroute to playing in a BIG tournament tomorrow! Thanks Ray!! The only reason I am going is because of your genoristy and true love for the sport!! Thanks Melinda for all that you do and what a fabolous thread.

Great thread.
The red rep button is for people just like just below not a pro.
The one thread that still kills me cause I am not sure,
was the one about washing your feet in the toilet that OHB
told, OMG, I will never know if he was pulling our leg, LOL.
hugs

I'll never forget that one either. It kept me laughing for a long time.

The one's with the 10 gallon tank will suck your toes off>>>> I still crack up at that.

I remember the exact day when I realized AZB was family. I had been reading the forums but not posting a lot. One day ran across this thread about OldHasBeen and was weeping about a man I had never met. I was crying true tears because the love for this man was so obvious from everyone here. It made me realize AZB forums was a family.

I felt like I became a family member on a sad day a year ago on this date. I had been posting much more frequently and meeting AZBers away from the internet and when my Dad passed, someone started a thread for me. It meant the world to me and that's when I felt like a family member.

Please share your stories about when you first recognized AZB forums as family and/or when you felt like a family member.

P.S. The last year and a half had its ups and downs, and coming here has really helped me when I would get depressed. Thank you!

I think I almost have 400 posts or so but it really wasn't until recently that it has felt like a family with the kindness of yourself and Dwight in recent posts. Thanks

Jimmy,
I'm surprised those two never came back. How could anyone ever quit pool cold turkey, let alone those two, who made for such drama when they posted.

How's the fishing been?
Ya,those 2 contributed some funny stuff on here.

Going to cancun in 3 weeks, hopefully I can catch what I've always wanted to catch.....The elusive Black Marlin.:D

Nice!
