where you look on the break

i can look at either

i can look at either the cue ball last or the 1 ,as long as i concentrate on each one intently

i look at the light reflection on the head ball in the rack. then i line the center of the CB at the light. then never take my eye off the cue ball.

i do the same thing (even though i'm not what YOU would call a good player  ).

I think it's important to concentrate on the cueball on the break because when you hit the cueball at break speed, any off center hit on the cueball makes it into a wildly spinning, pocket finding lunatic. :D

just my opinion.

Breaking is the only time that you can look at the cue ball last, on any other shot your eyes must be focused on the object ball when you contact the cue ball. However, once you have aimed the shot and completely grooved your stroke, if you are more comfortable you can look at the cue ball last if that gives you more confidence. I have tought people to do this because it gives them the confidents to hit the cue ball harder and get more control after contact.

However, when I break I look at the object ball last just like any other shot.

i dont know if i qualify as good, but I can play and yes I look at it last, my break sucks too. it is my weakest part of my rotation games 6,9,10 ball.

Cue ball last

Ralf Souquet confirms that he also looks at the cue ball last when breaking.

The Saw looks at the cueball last. And yes, I am a good player. But playing 3 ball, I look at the break ball last.

I look at the place where the head ball meets the cloth.

I moved the cue from my right eye to between both eyes, and now I can hit the head ball straight on much better.

do any of the good players do this?

Can't speak for em,but this bad one does.

Breaking em better now then ever my life (don't care which game) and I'm not sure why exactly. But CB last was one of the changes I made a while back.

that's the same I was going to post, nothing to add. At break speed it is vital to control the hitting point on the cueball.

I don't know his break routine but Ralf is one of not-very-often-to-meet players who looks at the cueball last at his EVERY shot. So if he does the same when breakin it is no different to his usual pre-shot routine.
While it is for the majority, hence the question by Bartram ;)

I forget which Accu-stats tape it's on (has been talked about before on here) but he specifically talks about his break routine with Danny D and Incardona. And he indeed confirms that he looks at the cue ball LAST before the break. But he does not do that on his regular shots. They mentioned that he can do that because his fundamentals are so precise that he can get away with that. Which, would seem to back up the theory that it's not exactly a 'good habit' for everyone else who lacks Souquet's skills. But then, great players don't exactly try to copy other players. They simply find what works for them then they run with it.

Craig...That is not quite true. There are several times when you may look at the CB last...the break being one of them. Others include kick shots, jump shots, and masse' shots.

To the OP...many top players look at the CB last when they break.

I've tried both, cue ball last works for me, one other shot that I learned watching John Schmitz striaight pool video when shooting over another ball he looks at the cue ball last, great tip.

when i play 1P I 100% look at the rack when I break, same for 8 ball.

if I'm playing 14.1 I dont know WTF to look at thats why my hi run is about 8 balls-i'm all over the place with massive ADD.

I usually hit the cue ball in the middle of the 3. If there is only one cue ball, I am sober, and therefore not breaking much anyway.
