present day, not past, Orcullo, Efren, and Shane come to mind, I think Yang and Alex also, maybe Corey

conversely, which champions actually ask for weight?

I think that it really depends on the game and the size of table. I mean I don't think that most top guys will play Efren 1pct even if there is $$ involved. So it's kinda hard to say.

You're probably referring to rotation games: 9,10, or 15 ball.

However Scott Frost told me last night that he'd play anyone in the world even-up one-pocket for $20,000. I didn't take it that he was idly bragging.

Someone tell me if this rumor is true or not but I was told Shane wants nothing to do with Orcullo for the big cash.

referring to 9 or 10 ball on a 9 footer which are the current standards for most major events

WITHOUT backers

> I was told by someone standing right there that Shannon Daulton, one of the top 20 or 30 cash players in existance, asked Alex for weight.

Imagine trying to spot Shannon.

I can't see it.

If I played the speed of ANY of those guys,NO ONE would be barred. Tommy D.

I can see that because Alex is a world champion with lots of experience gambling, not too many guys like that

He DIDN'T mean it!!!

This is true. He didn't want the 9 playing ten ball when he was offered some $20,000 sets from Orcollo. So Shane would not be on this list. I would think he'd play that game all day long:confused: .

I think Ronnie Alcano can be put on the list.

Johnny Archer doesn't get weight from anyone! Same with Rodney, if he's playing. I don't hear anyone offering John Schmidt anything either.

I think most top tier players would play anyone even if they are getting staked. Playing on their on money maybe be a different story. Just my 2 cents.

If you are talking larger sums of money, say $10,000 each or more, then I am not sure that there is even one person who will truly play the whole world in 9 or 10 ball, take on any comer, nobody barred, no money from backers allowed. Even if you are a guy that many people consider to be the best at a particular game (like say Orcullo in 9 ball), the number 2 and 3 guys (say Ching Shun Yang or Ronnie Alcano) are so close that it is almost a coin toss when you play. It can go either way on any particular day, and that's just too much risk for that amount of dough when you can just get a backer and risk nothing.

If you expand to other games you might find some rare exceptions (like possibly Efren and one pocket). There is really no way to ever prove it though, because you never truly know where the money being bet really came from.

I don't know, but I think Shane would play Orcullo with the 9. it would be important to know when Orcullo made that offer. Less than two years ago in Atlanta Corey played Shane giving good weight, something like the 8 on a super-tight table and beat Shane handily. Now Corey would need weight from Shane. A year or so ago Orcullo beat Shane easily in the finals of some tournament, and then in Jacksonville I believe Shane beat Orcullo in the finals. But I believe Shane would play Orcullo for 20k with the 9.
Of course, Orcullo is a monster. You recall a year or so ago he played Frankie Hernandez on Frankie's table at Masters, giving Frankie the 6, and beat him.

20k may have been a tad steep for him at the time also, not only is he better now, but he's making a little more bank too so such a proposition today may be a little more appealing to him

I suspect some of the Orcullo stories have been blown out of proportion, one of which indicated he was raping Efren over in the Phillipines

The benchmark for 1 pocket, Rotation and 8ball is Efren. If anybody plays Efren even he can play anybody even. I think for 10 ball would be Dennis. Does anybody remember how many racks he strung together at the DCC ring game? A lot of the filipinos play even not necessarily because of equal skill though but I think more out of gamble or heart if you will. I think Lee Van plays Dennis even.

Efren, Django, Alex, Dennis, LeeVan and Ronnie plays even. Efren's recent declaration "I will play anybody even in 9,10 and rotation for any amount .....except Dennis".

OK When u see him tomorrow say Efren would like to play you some..When and where 10 ahead for 20 k is that good???

Tell him first he should see if he can beat Corey since he is 0 for the decade vs him...............

Think he might have been on that liquid courage again...when comment was made

Only Alex has gone back and forth with Dennis. The rest has been consistently beat in their last 5 or more tries. Their game focus are just tremendous even with all the distractions, Dennis specially. Mr Puyat even said, after watching Dennis, that he hasn't ever seen such fire in the eyes and consistently turned on, not even from Efren and Django in their peak.

Did you know that Dennis doesn't mingle with anybody before his matches? Not even with me, Verna or Perry. We always hang out together during tournaments and matches for meals, coffee or just chat but Dennis stays far from everyone, and that's no exception (even his wife and kids), before his match.

I think Dennis and Shane playing even 9 or 10 ball Sounds like a good match for a TAR event. I would like to see Bignasty and JCIN put this together.

Actually, Shane was getting the 7, and if you think he wasn't playing about the same as he is now, you could be a little off. He had just beat both Troy Frank and Tony Watson giving them both the 8 and last 2 or 3 on the same table. Not a big fan of Corey, but it wasn't even close. Just goes to show you, the day to day swings can be huge.
