Who are the AZBers you would most love to meet?

SJM -- because somehow I failed to when it would have required no more than a quick ride on the B train. (SJM ... maybe we have met? How could we not have?!!)
.

The closest brush with sjm that I am aware of is I got on one of those pay computers in the Riv went to AZB and low and behold I was logged in as sjm! I almost wrote a PM to Williebetmore telling him I had seen breakup and what a great player he was.

I thought better of it, sure was tempting though.:)

IN Cardiff i went to an Internet Cafe and about half the time i was logged on as Charlie Williams. I goofed around with one of his chat friends but after a minute i confessed i wasnt him. I didnt do any harm in the minute.

That was kind of you. I remember it well!

Rackmsuckr, whom I hope to meet in the next few weeks.
Cueandcushion
Nostroke
Kevin Varney
johnnyt
uwate
jam
just the first few off the top of my head, I'm sure there are many more!

Hal is my favorite poster and I usually read all his posts.

Also:

Cornerman
Tate
Jude Rosenstock

Lots of cool people here but those ones stand out to me.

I would like to meet Kevin Varney...

and Kristi Carter at the same time.

You think they'll autograph a picture of them together for me? :D

Seriously though, there's no one here I wouldn't like to meet. But if I had to pick one, even though I think this member may despise me because of the IPT forum battles, it would be Russ Chewning because if we did meet, it would mean he got back from Bagdad okay.

Wow, the list could be fairly long - AZB is where the true fanatics gather.

Remember this is a list of those we've NOT met (search the old thread for AZB'ers that we HAVE met).

Rackmsucker - seems to be a true sportswoman.

JAM & Keith - pretty obvious choice; who wouldn't want to be favored with a few road stories.

DaveK - always makes me laugh; too bad he lives in the Great White North.

TheOne - anyone who makes straight pool look so easy is someone I would like to watch.

Worminator - sure knows a lot about Indianapolis pool (for someone that doesn't live here)

Snapshot - damn, he is a pool playing machine.

NYCcuedude - Straight pool lover and promoter deserves EVERYONE's respect.

John Schmidt and Thorsten Hohmann - see above.

Jay Helfert - dang he's got a lot of stories (and a pretty good nickname).

8BallBernie - just to make sure he's real.

OMGWTF - I definitely need a fashion consult.

Steve Lipsky - I would KILL for a game with him.

Wish I could write more, but I must sleep (been awake for most of 3 days, need to rest up for DCC).

Apologies to those I've forgotten (there are a LOT of you).

Condolences to anyone who's already met breakup (a few months of psychotherapy could possibly help).

wow, how flattering. I am surprised that so many of you would like to meet me. Although I don't "get out much", I am very accesible in NY.

I have met many Az members, and ALL of those interactions have been positive.

I have a distinct advantage to having SJM and steve lipsky available to me on a consitent basis, as they play in my home room.

SJM is a truly dignified person, who carrys himself with an enormous amount of class. He is articulate and polite, moreso in person than on this forum, if you can believe that.

I'd personally like to meet Jay helfert, blackjack, mike howerton, manyof the foriegn contributers like roy, who carrys the torch for europe. Williebetmore, a man i've never met, but one who has always suported my participation on this forum.

Thanks for the thread linda, and it would be my pleasure to meet you, and if you are ever in NY, please contact me.

thanks

Hi,
I would love to meet you in person as well. There is a nice tournament on Friday at a place called the Rack, it is located on Boardway and Commercial Skytrain station, and is upstairs next to a bowling alley.

I also go to the tournament on Tuesday at Guys and Dolls on Boardway and Main, very close to the Science World.

I think I need to clarify I am not a "pool player" :) although I do love the game very much. I am just a banger.

Richard
I had a change in travel plans, so I will be arriving in Vancouver Friday afternoon, but I think I will try to make it to the Rack. What time does the tournament start? if it's not too early I should be able to make it. If not Friday I will likely be at Guys and Dolls on Tuesday.

ps. I don't think I'll be instilling fear into many players so no need to worry I consider myself more of a banger aswell :D

edit: I will most definitely be going to Guys and Dolls on Tuesday as I just found out I will be living very close

Somehow I always feel like I know everyone already. I've been around this game so long, that I've met or seen everyone somewhere along the way. Except the youngsters who are just getting involved. Invaribly when I go to a tournament, I run into people who I met many years ago.

Derby City is like a big reunion to me. I'm looking forward to meeting some of the AZ crew there. I suspect many will have familiar faces when I put them with a name. You know Tom Ferry and I played many, many years ago when he used the name Tom Martin, and I swear I did not recognize him as Tom Ferry.

Even when I saw him at Derby City last year, I did not recognize him right away. He reminded me about playing at Richie's Vegas tournament at the Tropicana in 1979. He had to jog my memory, but we actrually watched a couple of matches together all those years ago. Tom was a good guy, very low key and an underrated player back then.

It's hard for me to believe that there is someone that has been around pro pool for 30 years that I have not met before. True, I don't recognize you from the names you use, but our paths have crossed somewhere. There are so many on here whose posts I enjoy reading. Many intelligent people post here, both young and old.

I particularly enjoy when someone with only a few posts pops up and gets involved in a new thread. They usually have something good to add. It's also interesting to me how some of the other "veterans" have a complete different opinion about the same player or situation. Goes to show you how we all have a different perspective on things.

Our points of view are clouded by our own personal experience. Most pool players over the years I have gotten along with fairly well with only a few exceptions. I never minded a guy who was a little "colorful" shall we say. Only the dishonest players and the obnoxious ones have really bothered me. Fortunately they have been in the small minority.

I have met quite a few AzB-ers when I used to travel the tournament trail on a more frequent basis! :p

I could write more about the ones I have met, like GabesMom, for instance. She is delightful, so very sweet, and I enjoyed rapping with her and her buddy in Vegas.

Ms. Gunslinger is another sweetie pie. We live in the same neck of the woods, know all the same action players, but have only met once. It was like we were long-lost friends, having so much in common. She's very amiable and friendly.

Eydie Romano and I have more in common than one might think. When we first met, I was amazed at how our backgrounds were so similar, and it doesn't stop there. Her passion for the game is strong, like me, and she is the kind of gal I'd invite to a slumber party for girls only, staying up all night long, doing our nails, laughing, and just having a good time.

Koop is another person who, when you meet him for the first time, it's like you have been friends for a long time. He is personable, fun, upbeat, and would give you the shirt off his back if he thought it would help you.

Sweet Marissa is a young pool enthusiast. She is crazy about pool, and though she is sometimes misunderstood in print, she is actually a very nice young lady when you meet her.

9 Ball Girl is another pool nut like me. Whenever we do get to see each other on the road, it's like old home week. We both enjoy sweating the pool matches for hours on end.

Though she doesn't post on AzB too often, CarolNYC is probably one of my favorite lady pros who posts on the forums. Her integrity for the game and her love of family separate her from the rest. I like this lady's style and admire her.

Dana Bufalo is, without a doubt, the nicest person I have met on the tournament trail. He is always trying to help at any event I have attended, trying to make sure everyone is comfortable, and he loves to exchange pool stories. He is intelligent, nice looking, and truly an asset to the sport, even though he is a Yankee. ;)

Timberly is drop-dead gorgeous, and she is beautiful inside and out. I think it is obvious how much she loves pool by her devotion to make things happen. Though I know she ain't looking, I'd love to see her meet a nice young man who loves pool as much as she and live happily ever after. She works hard in her personal life and deserves happiness.

XBreaker (Richard) is sweet as a honey bee. He is so polite and always willing to help the players in need at any event I have been to. He is just as nice in person as he is in his posts. What a sweetie pie!

Frank White is "Frankie Baby." Anyone who has met Frankie will remember laughing and having a grand old time. He loves, loves, loves pool, and I feel fortunate to be able to call him my friend.

It is always a pleasure running into Tom in Cincy from California. He loves the game, the players, the action, just like me, and you couldn't meet a more pleasant gentleman.

I couldn't post about all of the wonderful AzB-ers I have met -- and there are MANY -- thanks to this forum, but I thought I would do a flip-flop on the intent of the thread to showcase a few of the ones who I have had the opportunity to meet and come to know because of my participation on this forum. :)

JAM

I would find it a true pleasure to meet ANYONE from this board. I met several last year at the DCC and can't wait to meet more. I have a list of people I'd like to meet but I don't have time right now to list them. I'll edit later.
