Who are the top five players in your state?

As are you Chuck

It's Brian Atchley. He lives here where I live in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. He has epileptic seizures and decided to quit playing around ten or twelve years ago. He is very religious and a commendable person.

As are you a commendable person Chuck. It was a true pleasure to meet you and your dad at the Southern Billiards ring game.

For those of you who haven't heard, Chuck won the $500 per man ring game friday night and if it wasn't for his heart and class, entering the big ring game, there wouldn't have been a $1,500 per man ring game saturday night. 5 of the 8 players not showing up. Chuck, my hat is off to you sir. Your father has raised you well.............$Bill

I dont know about the "better one pocket players for sure up there". I think Jose Parica, Tang Hoa, and Rich Grenier could take on there top three and me and about 10 other guys would take on numbers 4 and 5.

What about one-pocket Rich? I heard he is one of the best 1 hole players in California.

One-pocket Rick is Rich Grenier who was mentioned as one of the top three. When Tang was playing regularly he and Rich matched up a lot early on Rich would spot Tang a ball but eventually Tang beat him regularly playing even. Parica is the best in California.

Chuck
Is that lives or lived?? I was pretty sure that Brian had past away. He
used to play in my town in alabama when I lived there and was one
helluva bar table player. Very nice guy as well.
I remember Snap magazine did a story on him once. They called him the
Barron of the Barbox.
congrats on your ring game win

Brian Atchley

Brian is alive and well. He LIVES here in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. I have never actually had the pleasure of meeting him, however many of my friends around here speak to him on occasion. He does not play pool anymore. My understanding is that he does not even want people to see him play because it may lead them to start playing pool, which in turn may lead them into non-Christian tendencies such as gambling, drinking, etc. associated with pool. Although I disagree with his standpoint, I respect it. My understanding is that he played all games very well, and is and undisputed champion. If you have any stories about him, I would be happy to hear them.

What about Hawaii and Alaska.

I guess Rodney Morris doesn't live there anymore. Who else outside of the continental US can play ?

Alaska

Tom Kitka, tied 9th in BCA open last week

Richie Orem, tied 9th last week also, I hear he is on his way to Florida to try the 9 ball tour

Bill Stock, just moved to Vegas to work with Griffin on new BCA, but I still consider him an Alaskan

Aileen Pippen, rasing babies ( twins) but still a pleasure when she comes out to play

Since Max Eberle left for California, Virginia has become pretty weak, in that it does not have any touring pros (Dave Bollman used to, but I haven't seen his name in a while).

The three best players in Virginia are Pooky Rasmeloungon of Arlington, Matthew Clatterbuck of Front Royal, and Chris Loar of Fredericksburg.

Aileen got married???!!! Her friends in LA want to know. Who to? She broke a lot of hearts in LA. LOL!! Congrats!!!

There are better one pocket players in Northern California. You may have Jose down there who will beat anyone up here. But there are a lot more one pocket players up here, that was the first thing I noticed when I started playing up here.
BTW is Cecil Tugwell still around?

Gee - is it that you LIKE Jim Henson or that you ARE Jim Henson or that you're tired of playing against him? LOL! Have a good one!

Sorry to re-fire this thread...

I am tired of playing him! He just goes thru me like I have never played, and it isn't coz I dog it. He has a very competitive nature and I seem to really put him on.

THe closest I came was in a race to 9 where he had me 7-2. I came back to trail 8-7 (he missed a 6, I hit him w/ a 4pack. then I brake and come up dry- he makes 1&2 then plays a tough 9combo and leaves the 9 in the hole, as such:
START(
%AI8^3%BM2]7%CI9Z8%DP0P5%Eh9P5%FV6D9%GG1J6%H]7R3%IC4[0%JA0K1
%KL3^4%L@1L9%NL0]9%OP6A4%PJ0L4
)END

The 3 is frozed and the 9 is deep in the hole, on the side of the pocket where a scratch is a huge possibility. I play the carom and hit it like I wanted- avoided the double kiss and all- but the CB touches the 9 and they bounce back and forth in the pocket and BOTH STAY THERE!! Not stuck in the hole, just sitting there, leaving this:
START(
%AI8^3%BM2]7%CQ7I8%DP3Q3%Eh9P5%FV5D5%GG1J6%H]7R3%IC4[0%JA0K1
%KL3^4%L@1L9%NL0]9%OP6A4%PD1[7
)END

He makes the pretty tough 3, plays the 9combo hanger, and makes me wonder why I try!!

Now you got me heart rate up. Damn that Shorty!

I actually have beat him a few times...but I guess I'd have to bet on him every time we play.

I don't have any stories about Brian Atchley, but he was pictured on the cover of the fourth issue of The Snap magazine in 1990, which included an article about him. Perhaps someone can post the article. Maybe JAM, I know that she has that issue.. (hey Keith, wake up JAM)

I remember one story with Brian Atchley and me. He had me 40 to 50 games loser on a bar table over there in Columbia, South Carolina, and we were betting real high. I happened to win all the games back and broke him, but it took about 2-1/2 days to do it.

Brian's best game was on a bar table, but he could play on a big table as well. He had some unfortunate health problems, resulting in seizures, and that may be why you don't see him very often in the pool world these days.

I used to play golf with him and Johnny Archer every day, and we used to bet high on every hole. Back in those days in the summertime, the pool was second to golf. You wouldn't find many pool players in the pool room. They'd all be out on the golf course, until the winter season hit.

Brian is a complete gentleman, and I hope he's doing well. :)
