Who are the top five players in your state?

Sorry but I'm not a reporter for the Billiard Enquirer or a member of the pool police...you'll have to ask them.

Well well...I thought since you gave the nod to b.j.over brady that you might have a thought about the matchup. But with this reply seems you know nothing other than knowing how to be sarcastic.
Good luck with that cue making business. Your gonna need it.

If you and Fuller need a game so bad I can have Doug Young come play...what can we bet. There is you an even game.

VIRGINIA (most of the best players are out of their prime or don't play anymore, so i'll list some of them)

DC Area:
Keith McCready
Pooky Rasmeloungon

Richmond and surrounding areas (where I live):
Larry Kressel
Carry Dunn (out of his prime)
Shorty Davis (the best when he played)
John Jordan (hardly plays anymore)
Denver (doesn't play anymore)

Fredricksburg:
Chris Loar

VA Beach:
Eric Moore

Not sure where Shorty Henson lives, but he's in there.

Current top 5 in the whole state in order (IMO):
1. Keith McCready
2. Pooky Rasmeloungon
3. Chris Loar
4. Eric Moore
5. Larry Kressel

Some decent shortstops in my area:
(9 ball)
Rick Dumass
Dave "The Dentist"
David Alley
Todd Elkins (maybe)
Mike Glen (maybe)
(1 pocket)
Calvin
Stroker

Hard to tell anymore. VA has so many has beens, and strong players that never went anywhere, and IMHO, we just don't have much national competition to offer anymore. But, if you combine VA and MD like in the Tiger Planet Pool Tour, you'll have an extremely strong field of players.

The best player in Virginia up until the mid 90s was Dave Bollman of Virginmia Beach area. Max Eberle of Arlington was the best from the mid 90s until he moved to California in 2002. Matthew Clatterbuck of Front Royal is currently the best in Virginia -- better than Pooky, better than Chris Loar, and better than Larry Kressel. McCready lives in DC.

BackPocket9Ball,

I know all of these players fairly well. It's a pretty strong bunch with Pooky, Chris, Larry and Eric Moore but I'd agree that Matt is the strongest right now. Maybe Pooky or Chris 2-5 years ago after Max left. Maybe Larry during the next year.

Captain Dan....what about Aaron Mahoney?
Did you know that back about 6 years ago , he played Tang Hoa in Los Angeles and was ahead about $600 for quite awhile before Tang got back to even...game took about 4 hours? Played Marcus Chamat also, and after a couple of hours , Marcus was ahead only $200.
He played decent nine ball.

-MORRO PAEZ
-TONY CHOHAN

Heard through the grape vine that Parica and Kimmer are in Phoenix for the weekend --- some tournament action.

He played decent nine ball.

Aaron is thought of as a snooker specialist, and while he has performed well in the Oceania region, hasn't made a name for himself at any large international tournaments. Perhaps he makes a case for the No. 5 spot, but those above him have done more on the international stage.

You really think Matt is the best? I've never seen the guy play, or even knew he lived in VA but I've heard about him and saw some tourny results from the planet pool tour, and thought he was strong, but not that caliber. Interesting.

Shhhhhhhhhh!!!;) Know Jr do you? :D

Jr. is a great player. He and fuller has already matched up. I believe fuller was getting the 8. The results we're they played for 20+ hrs. and broke even. Jr. can get played again no problem. The only stipulation is he doesn't get all those bathroom breaks he needs to play to his potential.;)

Chuck Evans has played in Phoenix for 40+ years. He lives to play. And he has been A and THE "Mailman" for years - my friend too. Jimmy Mendoza will always play well - he has some heart. imho

Jimmy Mendoza and Chuck Evans were the Arizona players who finished in the money in the Phoenix tournie over the weekend that included all those CA players.

iowa/illinois

first off . just because your from a certain area dont mean you have the best players. theres so much talent out there its not even funny.
everyone says all the names from one little city when there is a whole state full of hustlers.

iowa- not in any certain order or skill level . just the best

joe villalapando-getting old but i would take his knowledge over efrens. his game 10-20 years ago was superb. see almost daily. still teaches me things he notcies wrong with my game. i love the guy . he is the most down to earth guy youll ever meet. he also taught the benhke family which has brought them extremely far today. currently making pool schooling fills on 2&3 rail kicks as well as superb cue ball control. i know and use this system and its phenomenal

jon kachuro- amazing talent. gets side tracked in life. but when he is on nobodys gotta like it. when i was about14 he whooped me giving me the 1 out and the breaks for the dough. haha like to see him try that shit now. him or anyone on this list. or any list

Chad Velmont- This kid has alligator blood. so much heart. so much talent. great posture. doesnt let the game get to him. just smooth player. i like his game. much like jamie baraks

whitey walker- hits balls everyday.teaches. very smart player. won alot of tournys. all around good player . when he hits a gear hard to beat.

scott kitto- played more pool then most dream. has the game down. in his day he could beat anyone on any given day.

jamie fenton- dont know him personally but great player. only getting better. seen him run racks. lots of people say he is getting way better.

jason chance- another good des moines player. not to great of a guy met him a few times and was always an ass. great one pocket player. guess he has deep pockets and a big mouth.

Josh Johnson- Another great player who just gets side tracked. doesnt realize his talent and pisses it all away. poor kid.

Richard Pena JR - got some good ass talent just gets ahold of the wrong shit know what im saying?

Mark Nelson- not many know of good ole mark. he has slowed his play to almost a hault. recently became a father and married. doing the family guy thing ya know. but he will be back and this man knows his shit. he taught me how to masse like a animal:).

behnke boys Adam & Ryan because any one of them could beat the other on any given day. Adam may have the edge but ryan can certainly put the heat on adam. good kids amazing talent there dad is a great guy. jerry is a good player as well. and watch out of little chad he will be better then all of them in my eyes. he has that mentality.

The Late Chris Aiardo- passed away cancer. not before passing some onto his boy. spike will progress greatly. chris was a great player and teacher. he could do wonders for someones game.

shannon sharkie shroeder - recently reloacted due to marriage to chicago. good guy. sometimes haha had his past living in the present. getting extremely better id match him up against the betters these days.

rod flenoi- the one you didnt see. you did play. didnt win. and his name wasnt rod. he was cool as hell the whole time smiling and shit while he took your dough. good guy but a hustler. only trust them as far as you can throw him and rod is a big mofo.

ill stop with that but there is still many more very good players. come to iowa you can get played.

Illinois-no certain order of those i can speak for i wont mention anyone i do not know.

of course Jesse Bowman- a champion world beater. pretty much what all pool players want is what jesse has. the heart, the talent, the mental stability, the hustle, the whole package. imagine if this guy played pool? as in practiced. tho he did just open a pool hall in rock island illinois so come on down.

might as well add the rest of the bowmans. Dwanine and Jamie. both of them are jam up players. ill put my dough on dwaine playin 8ball against damn near anyone. jamie doesnt hit them as much as he could but he can still play. jamie is a character, have tons of respect to the bowman family. as they do for mine.

Jamie Baraks- my personal fav. he is an animal. he used to work for my dad running a pool room. jamie is an amazing guy just as much as he is a amazing pool player. his stance and mentality for the game i admire alot.he takes everything he does are serious as he can until its perfected. he has the best break ive ever seen. rookie of the year in 05 in the pro's. he is currently hitting them still prolly everyday have been seeing him frequently. and his game is sickkkkk. one of the best~~

tommy hernandez-game gone a little down hill but if he starts hitting them again watch out.

man i could go on for alongggg time the quad cities have alot of good players. would love to see some more out of towners come threw. well i am off work so ill post more next time.

You can't leave out Weenie Beanie who ran the legendary Jack and Jill's in Seven Corners.

Some other Virginia notables in this era would be Billy Stephens, Jimmy Mack, and Roanoke Red. :)

Do you think Bobby Pickle fits in on this list? He is in action more than anyone I've ever seen! He may be in the top 10 bar table players in the world!! How about Robbie Langford? Lefty Bennett is also another player that road players have avoided while passing through Knoxville for years!!

I like Bobby Pickle's style, and, yes, he should be included in the list for Tennessee players, IMHO.

I have been told by a reliable source that Robbee Langford is a "straight-shooting son of a gun." The reliable source elaborated that if Robbee played more, his game could be up there with the best of 'em. I don't think the kid enjoys playing pool as games of stake as much as he enjoys other games of stake. :p

Now, who is the Knoxville Bear? Shouldn't he be included, especially since he's the Bear that hails from Knoxville?

Eddie Taylor was the man! I had the honor meeting him in 1987 at 16. I had been playing pool for about one year. The day before I had just won my first tournament. There was a picture of me holding my trophy on the counter which sparked a conversation. I really did not know much about him then. I knew the poolroom owner said he was a legend. Someone took a picture of us sitting together which I still have to this day.:)

Robbie is another pool player that has crossed over to poker for sure. Online mostly I think. Which I look for more people to return this year to pool because of all the super networked computers that are being used to milk the online casinos. There is actually a system that I know of, that cannot be traced or detected. It tells you everyones hold cards and the cards that are coming on the flop, turn, and river!! Good news for pool and live games I guess. Even cyberspace has hustlers!! I look for pool players lost to online poker such as RL to return back to the pool scene. I for one am done with it. Although I could go back to school and get a degree in Computer Science and be a hustling software engineer! Theres a thought!!
