actually my original post never said a word about scott. he started in on me and ill be dam if im going to let some bplayer wannabe scold me and tell me how i live hand to mouth etc .scott is a joke believe me ive seen his act for ten years.

John, using the word "B" player has nothing to do with anything and your out of line thinking that thought has any true meaning.
It would be like saying Hal Nix had no right helping teach Nick Varner because he couldn't draw his ball as well.
I've taught for years and some of the best things I've ever learned came from beginning players and their thought processes.
Being a showman, being a player, being a trick shot shooter, these are ALL individual talents, then combine ones personality thats a package. Few have the ability/personality to make it like Tennessee Tarzan and Dr. Cue.
That's not a humble opinion, its reality.
John...Since you named me, you might as well name the female player who "beat" me too, and what school it was at. If she did win, there's NO way I ever got mad...and in fact, it would be just the opposite. I would congratulate her, and have the audience give her a round of applause. I've never been embarrassed by ANYBODY, in a show or otherwise...ever! That's not the mark of a true professional.
You obviously took serious offense at my post. Sorry for that, but I'm telling the truth. The only money to be made is doing exhibitions. It doesn't matter that you think only top pro players should do them. The truth is that anybody who has the skill, manners, and business acumen should be doing them (and most of those people already are). There's plenty of room for pro players too. They're the ones who choose not to take advantage of this revenue stream. BTW, I did play on the "pro tour" (or whatever you want to call it). I never said I WON any pro events...I didn't. You were in diapers then, if you were even born. I never have said I was any kind of champion, in any show. I have said, many times, that I quit doing it because there was no money in it (that was true then, just as it is true now). Since you've never seen one of my shows, you probably don't know, that my "schtick" is to 'help' the students I play against to beat me...something that some 'pro' players could never do, because their ego won't allow it.
You were the one who badmouthed exhibition players. That's the only reason I even responded to your post. You sound like a little kid, with hurt feelings..."Let's play a race to 30 10-ball!" Gee, that would be a fair game, wouldn't it? Tell you what, I play SO bad, that I'll need 29 games on the wire, in that race...and you're on. Bring your backers!

its the showmen that add the umph to pool it needs. ever go to an exhibition. it has everyone watching intently until its over and that's good players as well as beginners. watch a great showmen and all the players around stop and go over to see while laughing at the shots they make and miss.
after its over, the egotists all say how they play better than the guy who just made the crowd cheer. many do play better, but so what. it is a different skill out on the green cloth table to wow the crowd. go watch a tournament and the only people sitting through the long games are true died in the wool pool players. that's okay but it is an entirely different ball game.
it may be sour grapes for some but i believe the best showmen giving out tips to the public should make more than those that just have the ability to run rack after rack.

I used to come here to talk about pool, pool, pool, oh and don't forget about pool, but now it's just for the pissin contests.
What would you do if he said "So what, you win." Are you a better person? What if he said, "I'll do that and then get into the cage. Or play tiddlywinks? Or run the hundred? Or most any other random thing." Let every person make it the way they can. Now granted, I can't tell you how many times I've heard someone "ooh, and ahh" over a trick shot on tv, and I've said, "Yeah, let me know when I have to play that shot hill-hill." Bottom line is... we all use what we can. Noone needs to look down on anyone for any way of making a buck in the pool world. This whole conversation is just another example of ego and BS. Sorry, everybody has something they can beat you at. Everyone. I don't care if it's Dungeons and Dragons or tossing darts at a fence, or shooting pistols, or thumbwrestling. Not significant enough to get personal. Change for a dollar?
I don't want to take sides, and I understand both sides of the arguement, however,
During the 70's and into the 80's the vast majority of the income of british snooker players was from exhibitions. Alex Higgins recieved the exposure that he did from his exhibitions. If it wasn't for his shows, the small tabloid coverage of his antics would have gone largely unnoticed at the beginning of his career imo. People who didn't know the blue was worth 5 was coming to see him before the World Championships had full BBC coverage.
The benefit is that people who come to exhibition are likely to tune into ESPN when they see that player competing. Or they may come to the event if it is in town.
