Who is the all-time, best shape player?

I disagree!! Andam wins it hands down! Just ask the buy who invented Target Pool. Andam was the winner of that tournament of shapes!!

I for one could not disagree with you, i still have nitemares of what Andam did to Vanover here in Baltimore, a total qball freak show, i seen it live!

I think during the time their careers overlapped (80's) Sigel's tournament record was equal to Earl's, if not better.

I woukl agree. In fact, Dan Janes once said to me that Mike Sigel didn't really know how good he was. (Early 90's) Figure out that statement.

I also want to add with a small ball on a barbox when he was in gear Paul Turner played the best shape of anyone I played or seen play, bar none!

Best shape player

I don't think you can say theres a best. There just have been so many great players. But to name a few that impressed me has been Buddy Hall, Efren, Ignacio Chavez and Allison Fisher. Chavez ran 50 plus against Neils Feign in the ultimate 10 ball championship. I think thats pretty good position play in 10 ball where not a lot of balls go on the break. Allison is never far from her next shot.

It would be interesting to have a contest to see who can play the best shape.

Ever play Kim Davenport's target pool? This would be a great way to test it. It's fun. I think if someone went through a complete set of target pool shots every day, they'd become a beastly player. Some of the shots are very touchy.

I think you have different answers based on the game. Of course Buddy probably had the best rock in 9B.

When it came to "short-position" in games like 14.1, I don't think I've ever seen anyone with tighter control than Hopkins and Sigel.

So, it's hard to pick ONE guy generally speaking since there are different games and Buddy, although he had a tremendous CB playing 9B, he wasn't as tight in games like 14.1.

So I consider "best shape" to not only be "having the correct angle," it's really how close to the CB you are with the correct angle.

I know there are tons of Buddy fans and I'm his biggest 9B fan; but if Buddy in his prime played Hop or Sigel in their primes in a 1000 pt 14.1 game, I don't think it'd be close.

CreeDo, you're so right. It requires precision speed and stroke, that's why I consider Leonardo Andam as the best position player. He beat everybody playing that game. He was the Champion!!

Mike Sigel was certainly one of the ALL TIME BEST at position play.

Buddy hall. I feel efren moves the cue ball around more. More spin rails. Buddy has rotation game shape perfected. IMO. Some one do a poll with the top picks from this thread. Would be interesting.

there are so many good accustats of buddy playing position so that every shot is easy. I remember one video he gets about a ft or so out of line and he scrunches up his face and grady starts laughing about how that was very unbuddyhall like or something along those lines. You just got use to watching him get dead perfect that good position shots for u and i were dead out of line for buddy.

There was another guy on az a while back who said he took his wife to see the us open and similar to thebighurts story, he told her oh you got to watch this guy play! she watched him for a while and said something similar like oh I dont see whats so special about him. He never makes any hard shots!

Elisa did die at 28

too bad she died of a drug overdose at age 28

She still played marvelous position . . . but the MAN was Buddy Hall . . . throw down some cash - you ARE TOAST!

Just ask Earl about that

I think during the time their careers overlapped (80's) Sigel's tournament record was equal to Earl's, if not better.

When they roasted sigel earl stood there in front of everyone and told him that the first 2 us opens mike won only had 16 players. And earl won them with hundreds. 5 us opens and 6 world championships has sigel more than covered but Buddy has the best cueball ever.--
Leonard
