who is the best players in philly?

I see it differently. For me, it's a lot less grey. I mean, "in Philly" means...in Philadelphia. Not visits, not has spent some time in, not from another state but within a half hour drive or in state but an hour or so away.

I will concede if they live in a true suburb of Philly as being valid.

For ex: Steve Mizerak grew up/lived in a suburb of NYC, but in NJ. While he was within 15 minutes of NYC, he was still...a Jersey player.

"Grew up / lived in a suburb of NYC, but in NJ." Doesn't that mean NJ *IS* a suburb of NYC -- or could be NYC's sixth borough?

I think that the highest level player that actually grew up and is still living within the confines of the actual city of Philadelphia, is Eddie Abraham. If i am not mistaken, he is the current State Champion.

Basically, everyone else that can play at around that level that is designated a "Philly" player, is from a burb.
 
Well I bet there are more Pittsburgh Steelers fans there than Eagles fans.

Have no idea about baseball or basketball.

My buddy Scott tells a great story about how him, Gipsy and Ginky went down to Phily one night to try to bust a 15 year old Corey Deuel. They showed up and Scott walked in with a case that said Ginky, Ginky walked in with Scott's case and Gipsy walked in being Gipsy. They woke up Corey looking to make a game with him when Corey said "I don't know which one of you guys is Ginky, but I'll play the fat guy".

His ID was never checked, but every time I heard that story, they said Corey was 15.
 
When Corey was 15 he played almost every sunday at Castle Billiards Rutherford NJ in their tourney. He was playing pretty strong back then. I remember him telling me he wanted to quit school and become a pool player. At that time he was living in PA. and he was getting dropped off an picked up. He wasnt driving at that time.

JIMMY FUSCO was the best all around player from the philly area!

Nobody would go in there and play Jimmy, except maybe Efren and Parica.

And i dont even think they beat Jimmy playing in Philly!

One thing is for sure, philly had a bunch of really good pool players that gambled!

Saved yourself the trouble of coming to Philly, playing the wrong guy, booking a huge winner, and having the losing local backer, call his boys to rob you in the parking lot so he didn't lose his money.

Got to love Philly.
