Who is the man to beat for each discipline?

I'm really suprised of how many people keep saying "efren reyes" everywhere.... is it just me, or didn't the guy become old? He was great yeah, but now he nowhere as good compared to those young players now... He miss alot of shots. he jumps after each shot & misses.. I mean his body language after the shoot is really annoying..

On the scale 1-to-10, Efren's intimidation factor is 10 even if he's not the best player of the given game. He will give you hell if you put big money on the line.

Why, because on long matches his "auto-pilot" is better than most.

The truth of the matter, even the best in their discipline will have a second thought playing Efren even. Specially if you are going to challenge him in many billiard disciplines you can think of. He might suck in 3 cushions, but don't challenge him in carom and balk line.

Are you talking about the ESPN thing? If so, you ain't seen nothin' yet! Semih wasn't even challenged by that format. You should see what he can do in an exhibition. Search his name on YouTube and see what I mean.

No.. I had the pleasure of watching an exhibition! i knew most of the stuff he played was possible but didnt think he'd make it look easy, Totally blew my mind!!! Seen some of the clips on Youtube also! One word SPECIAL. If you were talking about that challenge match between Eric Yow/Masey VS Semih I missed it!

BarBox 9 ball:Rafael Martinez

BarBox 10 ball:Alex Pagulayan

BarBox 8 ball:Cliff Joyner

9ball-Dennis Orcullo

10ball-Shane V.

8ball-Efren Reyes

Banks-Ike Runnels

1Pocket-Efren Reyes

14:1-John Schmidt

Roy, I could be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure that Thorsten has never lost a head to head match against ortmann in tourney play. I think he remains undefeated. Now, of course any top player can win or lose a 14.1 match in a race to 150 or 200. But in a race to 1000, I would bet heavy on TH against anyone in the world. Although he doesn't gamble, we spoke hypothetically after the 14.1 WC, and he thought he could give dennis O perhaps 200 balls in a race to 500. this coming from one of the most humble players on the planet.

Earl would agree.:D

Banks-----Harriman, most long running consistency
Rotation---Reyes (no contest)
1 Pocket--Reyes (no doubts)
8 Ball-----Reyes, with a rising Shane VB (9 pack in Vegas was impressive)
9 Ball-----Yang/Orcullo (coin toss on any given day)
10 Ball----Shane VB (better break than Orcullo)
14.1------Hohmann

Snooker--O' Sullivan
3c------Blumdahl (don't know much about him, maybe Sayinger)

I think Shane Van Boening can appropriately be called:

"The Great American Hope" of Pool.

Dennis would certainly love to get a spot for a change. Would be a great match... too bad it'll never happen.

You don't know Efren's game then

I don't really think anyone can answer this question accurately, because anybody can beat anybody on a given day. Nobody is a "champ" for years upon years, like Mosconi in the 40's & 50's. Just because you beat someone in a tournament, or gambling doesn't mean you're the best. You're only the best THAT DAY. IMO there are far too many good players to be able to make judgements that have any validity.

Nobody said one day, it is supposed to be the best player in each game and Efren is the man in one pocket and eight ball.--leonard

The reason I picked Ortmann is because he has won big 14-1 tournaments consistently for 15 years, like German Championships, European Championships, US Open and now last World Championship.

I believe he would get a real hard match against Thorsten, and I would prefer to not bet on the outcome of such a match. It's hard to pick who is the man to beat, but there should be no doubt that Ortmann belongs among the men to beat in 14-1, but so does also his two fellow Germans Thomas Engert and Thorsten Hohmann.

I would LOVE to watch a matchup against Ocullo and Hohmann, and to be honest I think Hohmann could win with that handicap. German players are incredible playing 14-1, no doubt about that!

for those of you that think he may be a "one-trick-pony" you should try and see him play 8ball big table or bar box. Very, very impressive. I know for a FACT if someone wants to jump in (barbox 8ball, winner break, long or ahead sets for a reasonable amount) all it takes is a PM or phone call to Big Nasty and it will happen!

That'd be cool to see an 8-ball action challenge, although I don't know if all the anti-8-ballers would agree.

Nope...Efren plays jam up 3-c too! He finished 3rd in a tournament in Chicago, with all the best players, including Cuelemans(sp?). I know Efren's game, and I agree with those that put him at the top. Other than Efren, I think it's a toss-up.

That's only one pool game where I may be the best, but it is the most important one to me. I've been knocking 'em in for over 30 years backing players and betting the rail.

BEST HANDICAPPER - Jay Helfert

By the way, if someone wants to stake Thorsten to play Dennis 500 to 300, I will stake Dennis. Name your bet. And I think Thorsten is the best 14.1 player today also.

That can be Action Challenge IV or whatever.
