Who is the top player in your state?

that last statement is incorrect sir ............ask around ...

HP,
The last statement was neither correct NOR incorrect....it was my opinion. "Asking around" is a sure way to become confused:) :) . I'm sure there will never be complete agreement; that's why gambling exists.
I'm just calling it as I see it (and hell, I haven't seen a lot of players in Indiana...though I have played and gambled with most mentioned so far).

Come and visit sometime.

Jenn Barretta is the top player from my home state of New York.

Reason she is the top player is beceause while she was pregnant, while in a foreign nation, and having blonde hair she was able to successfully win an international women's event.

Since my knowledge is limited as a guy. I can't imagine the severity of her playing conditions as she won that event.

This is in terms of top tier, which she is.:)

In Georgia I would still have to say Archer, even though Stevie Moore is making waves lately.

I second this motion.

Southpaw

Third. :D

I'm a huge Stevie fan...
And it goes without saying that Archer is friggin' great...
But I think Cliff deserves at least a mention? Lol. For One Pocket, if nothing else...

...and on a seperate note, my homestate is actually Florida...but I'm out of touch with the pool scene there. I'd be curious is seeing what other's felt in regards to the top players in Florida (and South FL. particularly, if ya happen to know)...

In North Carolina, Allison Fisher and Kelly Fisher would be the top female players. For the men, it's tough to say...Tony Watson, Earl, Sparkey, BJ...we've got quite a few!

No. I keep saying I'm going to start going to Pakersburg but I

In Michigan i would have to second the vote for Kirkwood. But Adam Smith plays very sporty these days.

Well, I think you may not be including Ronnie Wiseman as "in Michigan" because he's originally from Windsor, but he's in Warren as house pro at "Hall of Fame Billiards" and certainly was the best player in the state until Tony Chohan moved here to Detroit recently. Now Tony might have that distinction. JMHO...Tom

Apparently you didn't see Matt Clatterbuck give some strong player the 7 and the breaks 7 ahead for $500, win, then give BJ Ussery the 8 in the same game, win, then after all that in the same night played slivka even 7 ahead for a thousand I think it was, and win pretty convincingly. This was in Hagerstown, MD last month.

he might not have seen it but I sure did!! That guy is an animal & a heck of a nice guy also.

tough to call

Jerry Slivca is back and his is the best.....

It's a coin toss in Maryland on any given day & situation. It's a small but very talented state. Mike is a great tournament player but Jerry Slivka is also. I think Jerry matches up much more than Mike does though. Shawn Wilkie can beat anybody at any given time it seems. If I'm not mistaken I think Keith M. is or was living in Virginia or DC. I used to live in Pennsylvania. I'd be interested in hearing some PA #1s

He still hits 'em square, but I would have to say he's not seasoned right now. Don't get me wrong..Danny is a good friend of mine, and can still play lights out, but guys like Glen and others are playing a lot more and could grind out longer sessions. Danny did put a hurtin' on Shane Van Boening in Reno though.

I absolutely, 100% guarantee you, if Glen and those others were ever to woof at Dan, they would be in a world of hurt over a long session. As it is, if there is a tournament in the NW that Dan decides he wants to win badly, he wins it. That's pretty much how it's been in the NW.

Everyone in the NW knows better than to say they have Dan's #. I saw a guy make a derogatory remark towards Dan's heritage one time while he was up a few games in a set. He never won another game.

Who we supposed to ask?

I know most everyone in Indiana, been playing in tournaments against everyone who can make 3 balls ina row and gambled with most of the best players. There are about 10 really top rated players who stick out in my mind who are all around good players. Tournament players and gambling are 2 different animals. If we took a variety of games, took my top picks and threw them in a matchup. There are 4 players I would pick as the top.
George Breedlove
Brian Groce
Brian Gregg
Steve Oaks

Now, if I had to pick one player to put all my cash on in a matchup with a road player, playing several different games{ie, 8-ball, 9-ball,10-ball, one pocket, banks, and straight pool. I have to pick George if he's been playing at all. But I've always liked Brian Groce for the cash. Not to take anything away from the other 2. I have total respect for all of them and love to get to just hit balls with them.

So who's your pick Hippie? Are you maybe talking about Josh?

When he was really playing good it was easily C J wiley. It sucks that he made so much money and found other interests. He really use to gamble high at CJ's. He was very hard to beat on his own table. I'm sure it is Jeremy Jones. Dave G. plays good. John Hagar has the potential to really shine if he wanted to. I heard he went back to school to get a degree (very smart move). It used to take a tremendous player to beat him.

CJ was, but time has passed. Tesas has since gotten a little more competitve.

To me, it is now kind of up in the ai9r between

1. Jeremy Jones
2. David G
3. Jui Lung Chen
4. Charlie {Hillbilly} Bryant

Nobody else is even close in the running. Some may argue that Joey Barnes and Sylver Ochoa are in the mix.

In CA I think Billy Palmer is playing the best right now. The way he was running out on those super-tight tables at Hollywood Billiards a few months ago...it was sick.

When Parica is in form he's the best in CA, but from what I've seen recently, he is a real streaky player. Plays great one tournament, then poorly (compared to how good he can play) the next, etc.

If Kim gets his old form back, then it's a different story IMO.

Brian Groce is the player that none of the others want to match up with ...if i'm wrong , and one of them do , i will be on a plane to come home and watch....
I think that josh is the guy who is on my old team ? i never met him ...

Hippie-man,
While George will NOT estimate the relative skill levels (way too modest); he WILL say that in a gambling match, for the cash, Brian Groce is as good a player as ever lived - he calls him "The Bulldog" for this reason, says you just can't make him quit. Not a bad horse if you want to ride.

P.S. - Here is a link to a thread describing the IPT warm-up we had last year with a lot of the players involved.

http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=39813&highlight=warm-up

If you are interested in spectating, I could let you know if we do it again.
