Billy and Grady were awesome, for a couple reasons.
Not only were they spot-on as far as what was going on at the table, and the player's thought process, but funny as hell at times.
Billy is still around fortunately, and is still awesome with almost anyone, but there was a vibe between them even listening to them on VHS.
As far as Accu-Stats commentators,in my mind the worst performance ever was Keith McCready, and this is absolutely not a personal thing,or anything bad about his actual commentary.
I have a VHS of a Sands match between Alex and Tang Hoa. Billy is in the booth with Keith, and either the mic Keith was using was not adjusted for volume,or he was 4 feet from it,because you can barely hear him say anything unless you turn your volume way up. Of course, when Billy speaks, you have to adjust the volume again, and it makes this particular match almost unwatchable.
I don't think any of the guys Pat has used over the years has been bad as far as what they say about the action at the table.
Buddy was particularly good,as is Jay Helfert,Tony Annigoni,Mark Wilson,David Maddox, and the late Weanie Beanie.
I put the guys that do PPV and online streaming match commentary in a separate category.
I won't say anything really negative about Jim Wych, but he is a little dry for my tastes, and slightly behind the pack in his explanations of how a shot will be executed,as well as why. Not bad enough to dog him though, like some.
I think J.R. Calvert does well on Accu-Stat's as well as online.
Jerry Forsyth is right there amongst the best of those I hear on matches I've watched online.
J.R's main man Alvin is good too.
One of the funniest commentary duos I've ever heard other than on Accu-Stats was Shannon Daulton and Rodney Morris doing the final from the Archer tournament between SVB and Warren Kiamco.
They both had a few beers, and made it entertaining as well as informative.
Johnny's wife Melanie did a hell of a job in a match from the same tournament, for someone that isn't a hardcore player. Tommy D.
