Who Really is the BEST Pool Hustler in the Country?

Man, are you ever a proponent to anything ever posted on AZ?

Sorry, but it just seems like you always oppose everything.

Nice idea CJ comes up with and you are such a drag.

Well, when you read things into what is actually said, like you did here, I guess it can seem that way. ;)

p.s. nice positive post you added here.

Hungarian...Got a problem with the truth? CJ is simply just promoting his own agenda, as noted by SJD and several others. Neil likes to point that out, which is certainly his right, and not a negative.

SAJ won double playing pool.......SAJ +1

Strong Arm and Scooter have matched up twice, Scooter beat him in a foot race, then SAJ won double playing pool.......SAJ +1

CJ what about this from Scooter? How did they play?

But how did they play? How did they match up? You can pm me if you want to. I am just trying to get an idea how he plays.

(Rusty played banks almost like BUGS) and he made a joke out of that lil "bar table"

When I was 17 my game was pretty good and I was traveling as far as St. Louis to match up with Gary L., Bill Berry, Rich S., Tom Ferry, Bill, "Nasty"Neal, and of course "St. Louie Louie" (that's a story all to it's self).....there was lot's of action at Grand/Gravios, Afton (OK Corral) and the Cue & Cushion.

One trip I stopped by the Forestell Truck Stop and went in to get some of the $20 eight ball action that was regular there. The moment I stepped through the door one of the local "detectives" ran over to me and said "hey, there's a guy that wants to play 9 Ball over there"......pointing in the direction of the jukebox.

I knew when we started playing I was up against a really tough game....something about his style and how he hit the cue ball........he was "pinning" his shots, I could tell by the sound. Everything he didn't shoot straight in, he banked in (Rusty played banks almost like BUGS) and he made a joke out of that little "bar table".

Long story short, we teamed up after that match and was soon on the road playing through southern Illinois, Kentucky and parts of Tennessee......Rusty was "Tommy Tucker the pool sucker" and I was "Butch" from Farmington Mo.....we made a strong road team and actually made a lot of games playing partners.

Rusty would go up to some unsuspecting player and say "me and my partner will play you and your partner some partners, partner"........something about the goofy way he would say that phrase that always resulted in a game.

Rusty wouldn't want to be recognized as a great hustler, but he was back when it was "hip to hustle" on the green felt.....like they saw Tom Cruise do on 'The Color of Money'.

Rusty has owned a very successful pool league in this area for quite some time. He obviously doesn't play anymore. The last time I saw Rusty play was probably over a decade ago. He came out for a regional event that had many top players in attendance. Rusty at that time hadn't played in years as well. He made them all look like they couldn't play and robbed the tournament. His pool was literally beautiful to see. I haven't heard of him playing since.

Next time I see him, I'll give him your best.

All true...... One time at Stepletons I'm sitting with Cornbread and Bucky Bell getting schooled and Paul walks up and sits down, then Paul starts talking. Like, talking normal, carrying on a conversation talking.... I'm like "Wtf, Paul? What gives with talking?". He was like"You gotta catch me before I start drinking!".

No doubt Cliff learned how to bite from Charlie Brinson!!! Plus, Charlie had his pimp game to boot..... That guy was a hoot!

I still get to see Charlie since I Iive around.TN/NC. People who have never got to listen to Charlie are really missing out.

We were in Jacksonville Nc a few years ago and Charlie got drawn for the break and run pot at 440$ a ball. He breaks and makes the 9 which doesn't count, but your allowed to keep shooting. He has the one ball with easy 2 rail follow shape on the 2, he shoots the 1 ball 100mph and stops his rock leaving no shot on the 2. He turns to us and says " you guys would of followed that for shape on the 2 right? We said yes, why didn't you? Charlie said " if you'd been broke for the last 8 months, you would of shot it the same damn way!
He is a one of a kind.

all he said was "boy you pinned that one!!!"

You managed "Sticks and Stones"?....that name brings back memories. I played a young kid named Johnny Archer in there for some pretty serious cabbage.

Doug Smith and I played there one night practicing for $2 a game. I was 19 and just about to hit my stride as a player - Doug had been the best player, but on that night I "hit a gear" and beat him out of $60. - all he said was "boy you pinned that one!!!"

I remember that night, because my game went up two balls from that point forward because of something Doug disclosed. Actually Doug showed me a lot through the years, as eccentric as he can be, he sure knows a lot about the pool game.

The thread has been derailed a bit into what I see as 2 totally different categories.

You have the road hustler, who drums up games, usually has to play B player speed and match up A player speed, and needs to be incredibly personable for times when he needs a walking stick, a bite, place to stay, etc.

You have the Road Player, who back in the time I was traveling around was a player who would go to tournaments from city to city (think of John McChesney Texas Express Tour (we followed that from beginning to the end))

While at the tournaments you would match up before, after, heck even during, to cover the expenses, and get ahead for the next spot. A lot of times you'd be putting your whole bankroll (minus gas money to get home) on the line with nowhere to sleep that night, no food to eat, etc.

I've traveled with CJ before on the road (and I doubt he could pick me out of a lineup of 2 people) I've traveled with John before, and know him well. Also traveled with the rest of his "crew" (I'm guessing Doug is somewhat a part of that crew)

Who the best is, is rather subjective. The amounts thrown around today, are amounts that a lot of players cant come up with. Good players who just don't have 20k laying around cant get played because they wont "bet enough" $100 one pocket is just hitting balls around in a lot of people's book.

The market has now set the bar, if it isn't a match for 10k, 20k, 100k, then no one wants to watch. Exhibition, bah humbug in their eyes, because there could be a chop or it just isn't enough on the line.

Paul could drink a lot, and he was ornery when he was losing, but a ball to be around when he was either not playing or buzzing. The good thing about Paul was that he ran around with Danny, and Danny could play. You would BEG to play Paul, he looked literally like Paul Bunyon. Tall, flannel shirt, scruff on the face, etc.

I remember back when John had Sticks and Stones and Doug and I were "managers" I LOVED that job. If I could have any job in the world ever, it would be going back to that age and running that pool room for John. If someone wants to ever write a good pool book, you could write it about Indy and the pool scene.

If that's how it works, then why are you calling out someone via the forums that doesn't even post here??

Because he wants to be a part of the new show Scooter and Crew are in and is hoping that his woofing on here will get the producers to bring their crew over to match up.

Long story short, CJ is feeling left out and it is really mean and unfair!

Shane and a top notch gambler were locked in a pool room for 24 hours

Shane's a great player, no doubt about that!

However, if Shane and a top notch gambler were locked in a pool room for 24 hours .......most of us know what would happen. ;)

I think there is a HUGE difference between a great "hustler" and a great "gambler." The best gambler in this country is without a doubt, SVB. He plays anyone, on their table, with their format, for big money and wins! No laying down, no moves, no tricks, just here I am, I play better than you, flip it!

Scott Lee, may actually be the best hustler in the country

It just dawned on me that you, Scott Lee, may be the best hustler in the country.

I mean, really.....it's hard for me to play well and try to convince people I play poorly...but you are a C player, with average fundamentals (what game did you ask me for again, the "5 Out"?) and have convinced everyone you're a "master teacher" - to me that's amazing and deserves a lot of respect.... in the "world of hustlers" you Scott, stand out to be the most notorious.

Congratulations my friend, I do believe we have a winner in your category, you can pick up your prize DVD package by clicking the picture down below. ;)

LOL

:rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1::rotflmao1::lol::lol::help::yeah::yeah:

I love the gambling part of pool and it's been a major part of my life since the 80s. In my travels I've partnered and gambled against some of the all time best. JR Weldon, Dalton, Vernon Elliot, "Frisco Jack," "Omaha John," "Surfer Rod," and many others including (who I think is #1) STRONG ARM JOHN.

Gambling on pool games require one important component ... A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION. This isn't about "woofing" at anyone, it's about muscling up and showing who really is THE BEST! We can also gamble at basketball, foot racing, tennis, golf, table tennis, foosball, "one handed pool," or any other proposition scenario Scooter and "S.A.John" can match up.

We do believe Scooter is the best "new generation" pool hustler, however he's not (imho) the best hustler in the Country.......Strong Arm John has that title and is willing to prove it where it counts - On the Green Felt for the Cash.

We have the perfect "win/win" scenario to prove who really is the best and give Scooter's crew the chance to make $20,000+ in 3 days or less. I will guarantee Scooter's crew will have the chance to win more than 20k.......if they can win.;)

We challenge Scooter to bring "his crew" to play "our crew" in Indianapolis for $20,000 (minimum entry fee) and must play and continue to "match up" until one crew has $40,000. This will be a HUGE feather in Scooter's hat and prove he really is #1. After the match we will shake hands and acknowledge the winner as "The Best Hustler of the Generations".

This is a friendly offer to "Play Some Pool Fast Eddie" (or Fast Scooter) ;)

Remember one thing, Scooter - 'The Real "Best Pool Hustler" Will Be Your Teacher'

If you all are going to bark 21st generation style on a forum...then, do it right. Get out the Sony! Upload guys. If you really want to transcend pool hustlin', use all of the tools 21 - Century style. If your goal is TV? ...Show us some style. Bring the 3 am poolroom to the Mac!

To me, this challenge just seems stale. To the average person that doesn't know anything about pool, you would appear to be an average Internet geek throwing flames from his endless hours of stalking forums. We have a ton of them here. Show us real personalities in video that can go viral! Let the camera be the teacher!

This from the guy that last week claimed he has never made a negative post or disparaged anyone on here or in p.m.'s or on facebook. I will say, you either have a lot of chutzpah, or little brains to call him out on instructing. When it comes to actual instruction, he can give you the 4 out and the break. Just because you used to play real well doesn't equate to being able to teach things. ;)

he's walking around right now just pleased as punch

How is it negative to give credit where credit's due?

Scott wants in the spotlight and rightfully deserves it.

We recognized his talent and awarded him a set of DVDs (I even personalized them to him and said something nice).....this is positive gesture

I'm sure he's walking around right now just pleased as punch at being recognized for his accomplishment.

You're right, we do need to get ESPN involved again.
