Who were some of the best women playing for the cheese

Vivian's name should have been in there a long time ago. I have watched and bet with her many times. It is always fun, too. Something I do want to add to this thread is that I do not hustle. I play games and sometimes with wagers on them with people that I know and they know me. It helps your game and is fun if you do it this way. This is my opinion. There are many fun stories that can be shared from the past years of pool action and also great moments in pool history. I love to sit around in the pool room and listen to all the stories.

Monica, if you check my post #27 you will notice the "VV" I was speaking of was and is Vivian. She is the one who beat Ronnie Allen playing even one pocket. I think the girl is awesome. Hey, any of you ladies who will crank it up has all my respect. In the 70s there were a lot of girls who would bet it up. One of the best women players of that era was a girl who never played tournaments, just gambled, from Jay, OK. I can't remember her name now but she played the bar table as well as Jean played the big table. It took a monster guy player to beat her because she strung racks together. Some of you guys/gals from the 70s have got to remember her name, Ironman, Jay, Dick??? Belinda knows her. I'm sure June does too.

That was a lot of fun and I was realy nervous. If I would have lost the 1st set I would have been busted. I would have only had maybe $300 left in my pocket about 1800 miles from home.

I've seen you that nervous before also..
Right before getting Powdered by me :)
You girls better stay in touch..
Best,
Ken

If my memory serves me right I got the nickname "powder" in NY for powdering your butt like I was your mama or something.lol I love you, ken and hope to get up there and see you soon.

Your memory is failing you again..
Stay off the Red wine...LOL..
Hope everything is going well down there..
Ken :smiling-heart:

Anyone remember Kris Turner? I always thought she did a great job of getting the money. Have not heard her name in years.

Diane Reynolds I think (used to be with Wade Crane) knew how to work a bar well and turn it over to the big dogs. She played okay also.

You're talking about Sherri Sewell or something like that.

I partnered up with Kris to finish second in a big bar box tourney in Palm Springs 20+ years ago. We played Mike Massey and Robin Bell (Dodson) in the finals. I talked to her about a year ago. She's living in Tennessee or thereabouts and has a couple of kids. She has been on here once or twice.

She learned it ALL from "Little Joe" Villapondo!

What? Only $5000?

2 weeks ago Belinda beat wade crane in a tourny (run by Shannon Dalton ) in Fayetteville, NC.

She can`t play a lick and you can give her last three and wild 5 for 1000 $ race to 5.

Vagabond,

Phew, at that steal, why bet only $5000 for race to 5? Jack it up to about 20 G a set and Monica has to shoot with one hand and stand on only one foot, right? Preferably on left cause I think she a lefty. That will really through her off balance;)

No wonder you want to back Belinda:D

Mark should stake monica.

"Shelby Miller" would always take all my money when I was a young player in World Class Billiards and Mr.Cues. But I really appreciate it now looking back on it. She was always nice, too. She knew I would play even if I couldn't win. One time after many beatings I asked for the 8 when she came into town but played any how about 2 seconds after she said "no". I think I was 15.

shelby showed lot of class when she matched up.Recently when I ran into Ciff Joyner he reminded me of my yester years saying " years ago you used to hang around with Shelby." one time this dude in a cowboy hat was irritating me by asking me to give up some thing in a game of 9 ball. .Shelby jumped in and told the cowboy to leave me alone and she then challenged him and silenced him quickly.

June hagar was an aggresive and nervy player for matching up. I heard that she played one pocket for 75,000 a game one time way back when. Anyone else heard or know about that. I think she won but can't say for sure.

I find her to be very attractive and that was my main interest.

Detroit Carla

"Detroit" Carla wasn't (isn't?) too shabby. Though not a top player she was a smart gambler and took down Aileen Pippin, Kristie Carter, and numerous others with a spot.

I met Detroit Carla at a one pocket tournament at Hard Times in Bellflower. Very knowledgable, and a very attractive woman who has aged well. She looks like she would fit in at a pool room or a board room. Very attractive. I wish I had seen her play. Carla, if you are reading this, I did say hi to Buddy Hall for you when I saw him last in Tulsa.

I didn't realize that Jean Balukas was not known at all for gambling but I guess she wasn't because if she did she certainly would have been mentioned by now.

Please don't get your hopes up. I haven't played pool competitively since 2000 and would be no match for Monica now.

My intent was to clear up the misconceptions. :-)

In 2003 I had an injury that kept me from playing for many years. In the past year or so I have been trying to get it back and about a month or so ago, I found myself starting to hit my level again. I doubt you had an injury or have my back, hip, eyes, age and foot problems, so if you have the itch, scratch it. Youll be glad you did.

A few years ago, Allison Fisher came to San Francisco to visit Gerta. She played one of the top nine ball players in the Bay Area and completely dominated him. I was very impressed with her skills. Gerta told me she didnt really gamble though and her limit was about $50 a set. Dave Piona was sitting there with me lamenting how pissed off he was that Butler was letting a WOMAN beat him.
Speaking off women who beat up the men, what was the name of the woman who torched Keith in his prime and was barred from Mens tournaments in the 70's, maybe 80's. She is the daughter of some Top Pro and played in New York. She came to San Francisco to visit Gerta also and she had one of the sweetest stokes ever. Very nice lady, I gave her and Gerta a tour of the city before they went back to New York.
For the last couple of years, da Black Widow has set up shop at the DCC taking all comers. Two years ago she played someone for a bunch of cash and lost. After the match, these guys were brutally assassinating her. Just poor, bad, sportsmanship. The next night, Jennifer beat them for what she lost and another $40K. I saw her later on as we were walking the quarter mile back to the rooms and I told her I was very happy she drilled those guys. She asked me why I was so pleased and I told her, "because they showed no class the night before".
Around here in the bay area there are a couple of young girls that the men have trouble with. Rankin and her buddy. A few years ago Rankin beat Lettuce Larry in nine ball. Few few men can do it.
Myself, theres nothing more pleasing than seeing action, whether from men or women.:D:cool:;)

This is one of the best "reads" I have seen on AZ in a long time. This is what I think this forum is all about.

I wonder how many women would have matched up even against Jean.

Back in her day none would have matched up even with Jean...unless they hated their money. She was a holy terror in her prime. Of today's women there might be a few who would make a close match of it with Jean - Allison, Xiao ting pan, Kelly, possibly Jasmin....but I'd still pick Jean to win.
