Who will purchase an IPT challenge match?

With the IPT trying to make a come back using these "challenge matches", its only a matter of time before the freebies stop and they start charging for these matches. Who on here thinks that when that time comes, they are going to purchase these streaming matches? I for one know that I cannot in good faith give any money to a snake like KT. This is especially true when you have two guys out there in Justin and Chad at TAR who have a true passion for the game and its players. These gentlemen have done more for billiards than KT could ever hope to accomplish. No matter what gimmicks he attempts, at the end of the day its all about the profit margin for him. With TAR, atleast I believe, its a labor of love. So all of you IPT supporters get your clubs warmed up, i'm ready to be bludgeoned for my dissent.

If they put out a good product, I don't care whether it's a labor of love or not, just like I don't for most of the things I buy. However, I'm skeptical whether it'll be anything worth buying.

I not only wouldn't pay for their feed I won't even get it for free from them. I don't particularly like watching stuff via the computer, but even if I did I wouldn't watch them because of Trudeau.
I'd give TAR money for nothing before I'd buy anything from IPT.
Sure wish they'd stop sending me emails. Deno had my email address from pre-IPT times and I'm on their email list as a result.

Thanks for the kind words. I know I speak for Chad as well when I say they mean alot.

All I will say about the IPT is that if they are going to do this thing, I hope they pay the players a ton of money. We do not have the budget to do the level of actual production that they do and to be frank I think if we did have the money I would probably want to make it easier on the players to play our events (free travel roundtrip and a guaranteed fee per player like $1k each)

I have to admit I am surprised about them having trouble with the stream. I would think with their budget it would simply be a non issue.

We have worked hard to provide the quality of product we put out. I know it is not perfect by any means and there have been bumps along the way, but I am proud of it. We split the DVD profits right down the middle with our feature match players and try to help them with anything we can.

As far as the original question: Would I pay for an IPT match?

What do you think? :D

TAR all the way

The only action with a three letter acronym for a name that I'll buy is TAR
IPT can pretty much eat a hot cat poop

Doesn't matter if they have it, if they don't want to spend it.

Keep up the good work! I'll continue to purchase dvds, but these old eyes just don't want to watch video on a computer. :)

I wouldn't piss on KT if he were on fire much less purchase and IPT ppv.

What I think is gonna happen is alot of people are gonna take their shot at the challenge match format and might stick if they sell the story behind it like UFC does, just throwing 2 top players in the box and uploading the video isnt enough, there has to be a story some sort of drama, the bet is one part of that, but if the $$ is 10K guaranteed and there isnt a bet the players will chop it up and its an exibition, thats not action, So there has to be a story line, kinda like the SVB and Alex games leading up to the big race, that will sell. Following events trying to capture live action is too expensive, but staging action wont sell if it feels phony like the Earl, Archer thing a few weeks ago.

The guys who put together the matches, interviews(not dull boaring ones) but the "i'm gonna shoot his nuts off" attitude interviews and sell the sizzle not just the steak will win in the end, The TAR guys have the support of the internet community because they are great guys, i'm proud to call them my friends, that support will give them some traction but like boxing, UFC etc. there has to be drama, look at the fights at the press conferences for boxing that generates interest and more PPV buys, the fight that are just fights dont sell as well,

Because it isnt real hard to get 2 top players in a room with a camera and commentary I think there will be several groups of guys who attempt to do what the TAR guys did first(far as I know). Its the guys who make it the most interesting that will make a business out of it, look at porn it isnt that complicated, the successful production companys have better looking girls, HD, what ever it takes to make it better than the other guys in the biz, the distribution in our case (pool) will take care of itself, since TAR is a step ahead they should win the race.

I agree with most of what you said except for what is in red.

It is ridiculously hard to put 2 players and their money in the same place at the same time WITH ENOUGH NOTICE TO PROMOTE IT. Anyone who thinks different should give it a try. It makes all the streaming and other stuff look like childs play.

Straight up

Here is where i stand on the issue at hand. First of all I do thank TAR for all that they are doing and wish them continued success. I'm also not hateful of KT. I don't know many people involved in pool who aren't in it for the money. The BCA, APA, to name a few. They clock in big figures in revenue and what do they give back? KT did do something in pool and for the most part paid his own money to do it. I don't see anyone else in pool doing the same except Diamond billiards. Who is doing so much for our sport right now. So spare me the i hate KT comments until you find someone with that much money to invest in billiards and doesn't want to make a profit.

I went to their site to watch some of the old videos but it says now you have to be a premium members, before you could watch it for free as a basic member.

Personally, I'm hateful of nobody, but I have a healthy disrespect for some people's behavior. My lack of respect for KT stems not from pool, but how he made his money in the first place. He is a snake oil salesman.

I'd buy an IPT Challenge Match live match if the commercials and the commentary weren't so annoying.

I mean, most of us enjoy Grady, but even Grady can get awfully annoying pining on Mike Sigel. And goodness, I'm a Mike Sigel fan. I don't want to keep getting reminded of that fact. And Giordano's? I may never go to that place. Ever.

Plus (and I've said this before many times), I don't think professional players make the best commentators in 8-ball, unless they're playing a ton of 8-ball currently. I don't believe many top players play it enough to understand all the pitfalls. Their skill level is too high, IMO, to see the pitfalls and commentate on them. And when the pitfalls come, there's not enough commentary insight on why the pitfalls came. Last night was no exception.

Fred <~~~ knows too well about pitfalls

I for one will not give one cent to the IPT, challenge matches or otherwise. But, I will purchase every challenge match I can through TAR. JMO.

Southpaw

Just say no...

to the IPT. It should be boycotted.

TAR now, thats another story. They do what they do, and do it well.

I would buy their product but only after they work out their problems.

For me the most annoying thing was that I purchased a 24 in monitor because of the streaming pool videos I see in the future for computers. But after logging in and only getting a small picture surrounded by advertising banners, I was dissapointed. Give me full screen, then maybe it will feel like it's not a computer monitor.

It seemed like the commentators got an even a smaller picture then I did because on their monitors they couldn't tell which ball was which.

Sigel knows eight ball very well and Grady acted like he had no clue. He reminds me of Ed McMahan as Johnny Carson's yes man. Plus I get tired of his "Just like that " comments after the player shoots it like he discribed (which was no mystery to most pool players anyway). Kind of like when they say he will go two rails for position then when the player shoots they count the rails One, two, just like that. Hey, I can count!

I would like to see Incardona with Sigel. That might be intersting. This way we will have one that thinks he know it all and one that does. You decide which is which.

with $15,000 you can make happen, for $20,000 its a lock. But that brings into question the profitablity. also who's betting the players or promoters?, this would create phony boaring players showing up for a paycheck. Justin i'm knocking you, your stuff is real.
