i know this was meant as a joke but it was in VERY bad taste...

nobody in the world is perfect... but for you to blatently make a joke about someone's handicap like this is very rude... i just hope Shane (or his family) doesnt see this rediculous comment and get offended.

I'm not knocking him because of his handicap. It's not even a handicap. It's closer to an advantage. I'm getting a little tired of hearing about this. We all know he's deaf. Why does everyone have to keep bringing it up like it's a huge deal. I know quite a few deaf people myself. I'm pretty sure that he's not ashamed of it. It really doesn't matter. Shane has every bit of respect from me. Watching him play is like watching God play. I'm sorry if I offended you. But I'm just as offended when I see these posts about playing 1-pocket with Efren. If you want to steal from the kid, get a mask and a gun.

If you want to talk about handicaps at the pool table, my friend has zero control of his hands and fingers. We have to tape the cue to his hand. If that's not enough, he's paralyzed from the waist down. Plays alright though, considering he can't stroke the ball for shit.

that was horrible to even joke about....man that was so wrong....God blesses everyone in different parts of their life...Shane may not be able to hear as normally as the rest of us, but he has a gift that most of us will never experience...

I do agree that in the pool world, it may be an advantage, but you are the one that made a joke in poor taste about it. Shane is a great kid. I met him in Atlanta last year and he deserves all the respect he is getting. JMO.

I was referring to the thread about playing Schmidt 1-pocket and 14.1 and the post about playing Harriman banks and 1-pocket. People are trying to put him in games he doesn't even play. He's obviously not the best in the world at EVERYTHING, but he's got my money in bar-table 8,9,10 ball and big table 9,10 ball. To be honest, it has a lot to do with his monstrous break. That break won't do much in a 14.1 or 1-pocket game.

As long as we're making stupid matches for the kid. I'll bet $10k I can hear better than Shane. Any takers???

Drew,

I know you meant this as a joke. But it is in very poor taste. And not funny to anyone either. Why don't you remove it and apologize to Shane. Don't just blow it off like it was no big deal. It is very offensive to Shane and most everyone who knows him. We've all made mistakes and you just made one.

....It was in poor taste but hardly a high crime, I doubt it would bother Shane one bit. I dont think we should crucify the guy over it.

To answer your question; he can give up weight if he wants but he won't win. Besides, I seem to remember John Schmidt saying that he'll play any of the filipinos even 9-ball, 1-pocket, or 14.1. This is all just woofing from across the globe. Put Shane and Dennis in the same room together and they'll end up playing even. If Orcullo gives up the 8, I know Schmidt would take it. So would Shane. But Orcullo won't give it up. Guaranteed.
In case you don't know, the best American 9-ball player on the 9 foot table is Johnny Archer. PERIOD. Orcullo offered him the 7 playing 9 ball at the derby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Shane wins one match and you guys think he's the best in the world, lol.

He's won a lot more than one match against other world class players.

You are the one who brought it up and it was a tasteless joke. And then talk about it being a potential advantage...

Archer is great but prime vs prime, he never was on Strickland's level

obviously there is alot of bandwagon hopping right now on the new kid, I say the more the better, American pool NEEDS a new player that inspires this kind of buzz

No Problem.

I'd arm-wrestle him for a hundred. Can someone set this up?:D

A hundred bucks or a hundred thousand dollars? Which one? I'm not going to waste my time getting him to the table for a hundred bucks....but a hundred dimes, now that's another story. And don't worry, I've seen your picture, so naturally we'll have to incorporate our standard spot under these conditions.

I think there comes periods where certain players seem unbeatable and they might actually BE unbeatable for awhile...Manalo looked like a legend in the making, but has faded just a bit, Orcullo looked absolutely dominating for awhile, Alex and Busta get in modes where it seems absolutely foolish to make an even bet against them. When the greatest players in the world get in top gear at nine or ten ball, its almost impossible to beat them. Watch some of the early 90's Sands tourney's with Earl running 5-packs left and right in mere minutes and you'd think THAT was the epitome of pool.

Shane wasn't raised on one pocket so asking him to gamble even with Efren at 1-P, or 14.1 with Thorsten is pointless. He's a breaker and shooter mainly, and he's doing it as well as anyone in the world right now. Maybe he'll decide to learn those games later, but right now he's running out better as well as anyone in the world so why would he waste his time on the other games.

I like the fact he plays top level 8-ball though. Maybe he'll get some instruction from Grady, Freddie the Beard, or Billy I at one pocket and give Efren a scare. I'd LOVE to see what he could do at the game given his incredible shot making.

Manalo did look like a legend in the making, as did Orcullo, Van Coreteza, Busta , Kiamco, and a heap of other Fillipinos

we've been overating them for a while

Brians Whites 1 hole game is pretty sporty! how would you play him B? and you move pretty well so my cash is on you!!!!
