Little Joe
Joe Villalpando has some great stuff. He gives you the tools to get the cue ball anywhere on the table that you want it. Reading patterns isn't covered, nor is the stroke and very basics. When you know the shot, he gives you the tools to make it.
When I was getting frustrated trying to coach a friend over a thousand miles away I bought all of Joe's DVD's and had them drop shipped to my friend. poolIQ.net is one site to get his stuff from. I think he gets the full monte if you buy there but I am not certain.
There are other instructors out there, I haven't seen all of their stuff. I won a bunch of Bert Kenister's stuff in a drawing. Some of his stuff is nothing short of great. Some good, some I think Bert decided it was time to put out another video. I can't think of any other instructional stuff I have gotten at the moment. I did get an early DVD of john schmidt's. He told what he was thinking and why he was shooting like he did. To be honest I can't say it did a thing for me other than saving me more money when he releases something else.
When I started playing pool there was almost nothing available, no books to speak of, no videos, no Net or Youtube. Now there is almost an embarrassment of riches and the hardest thing is picking among all of the things. I suggest trying to find someone whose style of play matches yours as much as possible and who has a long term reputation as an instructor. None of the instructors are the best instructor for everybody. If only it were that simple!
