SVB all the way. Nevel is too much of a head case to ever be the best at anything.

Sorry, but this post was way too ignorant for me to not say anything.

The brightest minds and people of the best professions were huge, "head cases"

In pool, Earl Strickland is a prime example. If you need me to elaborate, you have no clue about great people in history.

For those who think SVB is the big dog of 7ft Diamonds, I watched with my own two eyes, as John Morra was giving Shane a real hard time in their gambling session at SBE this past March.

That was until Shane started getting the hang of using John's Predator BK2 break cue (phenolic tipped) as his playing cue for the entire set which was part of their bet.

This SVB guy really is a beast.

Best,
Brian kc

your set of eyes and mine also.......once he figured out how to move the ball with that phenolic tip it was ALL OVER.......

I know that SVB will play ANYBODY IN THE WORLD:

1) 8-Ball on the 7' table (not sure if it has to be Diamond)
OR
2) race to 100 - 10-Ball on Diamond.

Long Races.

I cannot speak for SVB.
Maybe Justin (from TAR) might say something.

So - if anyone wants to get in the box, the challenge has been made (to be played in the TAR studio in Vegas).

Seems like an easy way to see who is best. (at least that day -lol).

I just gotta ask....how many times does James Barraks have to finish in the top 3 (winning a couple) at Shooters in Olathe outlasting guys like Chip and Jesse before anyone would consider him in their league?

Another guy plays alot up your way , he beat SVB bar table 8 ball tourny , 4 Bears i think , double dipped a 9 and 8 at Mike Page's Fargo place , only saw him on streams one other time , Justin Bergman.

I was there and watched the whole thing go down also. It was something to see once he got in stroke with that cue.

If you ever have a chance to see Dennis Orcullo play Eight Ball on a bar table, just watch. Shane is not the favorite here, although it's very close. ;)

For all the bar box lovers and SVB lovers ...

He's playing another young gun that can play on the bar box John Morra .. there's more .. SVB vs Klatt , Alex vs Klatt , Alex vs Morra ..

all on the small table.. \

Enjoy :D

I watched part of this when it was live. For me, and no offense to anyone, but I can not sit there and watch nine ball on the bar box. It's totally boring and I am the second greatest pool sweater of all time.

Now I loves me some bar table 8 ball. I can sweat that for hours.

Is it just me or do others feel the same?

There is really only one game I truely love to watch on the box and that's bar rules 8 ball. Behind the line and all that other crap. Best game to sweat IMO.

Agree with Mikey, let SVB try and fade DA playing some 8 ball...

i thought they played sum b 4 at dcc ... 8 ball on the toy box... but i may b wrong

your post reminds me of an article i read many years ago in a pool mag. i wish i could remember what pro or well known player they were interviewing.

i believe the crux of the article was pros vs road players.

in an environment such as sbe or the us open the pros have the advantage.

in a bar environment the roadplayers have the advantage.

the reasoning was this. the pros are used to playing in relatively quiet surroundings with immaculate tables, clean balls etc.

in bars the road players are used to making a living playing with big cue balls or mud balls, dirty balls, dead rails, dirty cloth, uneven slate, loud juke boxes or bands in the background.

can you imagine archer playing in a bar with bar box rules ? he would spend more time picking lint than shooting. or earl with his ear muffs trying to fade lynnard skynnard blaring from the juke box?

yea i think a good road player who spent his life in those places would have the advantage over most pros.

Throwing names out!

Years ago, Coy Lee Nicholson was tough on a barbox. First tournament I saw him play, he had an 88% break and run average.

Also, James Walden is as good a barbox player as you will find.

Shane has many years of experience playing with these conditions and more.He was a bar table specialist long before he blossomed into the well rounded monster he is today.

I believe Darren cut his teeth with English 8-ball,probably in less than pristine conditions and in tough places.

So plop down a few Lewis Jones picks on us. 25-50??? How bout 2 or 3???

Ray

Well Ray Hansen, I am not so sure I can do that. i am stuck in the 70s and 80s where things were so different. This debate has gone on for a long time and I doubt the best could ever be decided. What we had were favorites.
My favorites from that era were Buddy, Matlock, Kieth, and Joe Salazar and in no certain order. many would drag many others into this mix and justifiably so.
Things have changed so much. Short races and tournament play. Then it was for the money and today seems to be for the glory.
The formats and rules have changed and not for the best interest of pool, but to speed things up. Two shot shootout was a totally different game and one that would really test your Cajones. Banking is almost a lost art in the rotation games of today because of it.
Also lost are the big packages that were put together. That is largely due to alternating breaks. When we do have a tournament with winner breaks, the breaks get weaker as the weekend grows. Players today don't break as well for long periods as yesterday.
So nobody really stands out to me. Today someone could be the king for the weekend and by Wednesday, just another pool player.
For years we argued about the best running back in the NFL. My favorites were Jim Brown, earl Campbell, and OJ simpson. Many threw others into the mix and rightfully so. They were my favorites and most exciting to watch. Today I wonder if JB would make the final cut of any NFL team?? That is a different debate.
With Pool, I wonder if SVB would make the final cut of a team of players from 1975? Different time, different rules and different game!
JMO!!
