Why did the Sardo Rack disappear?

The Sardo rack used to be such a staple in practically every pro tournament. Much like the Magic Rack, everyone was talking about how the Sardo rack revolutionized racking with it's consistency and tightness.

But then... boom! Gone.

Tournaments started using oddball racks like the Chameleon rack then that weird rack that looked like a house then the dots and finally the Magic Rack (various versions) and now the Delta 13.

Where'd the Sardo racks go?

I know where mine went, I gave it away. It seemed sort of big and cumbersome, I just went back to a really thick wood one.

It was a piece of junk and obviously it wasn't worth it for them to keep paying as a sponsor for tournaments if their product wasn't selling due to its ineffectiveness. I remember we got one at the pool hall I worked at when they first came out. We used it for about 20 minutes and then it sat under the counter for about 6 years because it was such a horrible rack.

I got one for $40 off of ebay .... it looks good on the wall of my man cave. Sometimes I even remember to dust it off.

Whoever pays the sponsorship money gets the exposure. They are still available.

I bought one a few years ago for half price. I used it maybe 50 time and put it away in the garage. It tore my bad back up leaning over and pushing down on it evey 5 minutes. Johnnyt

And the Sardo doesn't look a little weird? Normally if someone asked about that rack that looked like a house I would think they were talking about the Sardo. Didn't the table need to be tapped with the Sardo? If I'm going to tap the table then why do I need it, the table is already tapped. Plus, the Magic Rack and the Slug Doctor do at least as good a job, maybe better, they are way cheaper, and nothing is going to break. Well, the Magic Rack might after a while but it doesn't cost much.

I use the SD for 9 & 10 Ball and the Delta regular for full rack games. I'll use the Magic rack for short rack, big break games if I'm only playing a little while.

Way more trouble then it was worth. A contrived piece of junk, not to mention the price.

I think the problem is you play to good! In my case I would only have to use it about every 15 minutes:embarrassed2:

The magic rack is smaller, easier to carry, cheaper, and from what i'm told is more effective. i'm not surprised that the it disappeared

I remember that the racks Sardo produced weren't as good as promised. I've only seen Sardo used in recorded matches, but it is clear that the rack isn't completely tight always. The best indication of the looseness is the fact that the nine ball moves right after cue ball hitting the one ball. If the rack is tight, like it is with magic rack or proper tapping, the nine ball stays completely still (until some other ball hits it).

If you watch the pre-2008 matches from US Open (user BClub on youtube) when Sardo was used, you'll see that more often than not, the nine ball doesn't stay completely still right after the break.

I had thought about getting one a few years ago. But didn't, looked like it would be a pain in the a$$.

To many moving parts.

Agreed, a toast:

To moving parts!

They are complete garbage...

If you have ever looked at the internal workings on those racks, you will see they don't actually "push" down on the balls and make them tight as they purport to do. The racks don't even touch the balls as you push down on the handles. Haha... This theory would not work anyways because how many times do you push on the balls with your fingers only to have the balls move as soon as you pull the wood rack.

The whole premise behind the rack was to "train" the table first which meant set up a rack of balls on the table, then proceed to tap on each one until there was a clear indent in the cloth. When you went to rack each game, the balls would merely fall into the holes.

We used those on the IPT and it was such a gaff... Half the players were not even using the racks.. you could just form the balls into a triangle and push them over the spot and they would sit in the indents. Nice...
