Why do people get a pool table at home anyway?

another reason to have a home table.

You don't have to dig out VP3 and figure out the WEI table to answer Neils "What would you do here" threads.

Here's another question for you. Do you think people pay me $1,000 to $1,500 dollars to change the cushions, extend the rails, and tighten the pockets on their "HOME" pool tables....so they can have tighter folds in their underwear when they fold them in the corner pockets?

I took the time to read some of your other posts too, and I must say...you are really a negative person as you really don't have much to contribute about anything here on AZ....except gloom and doom....do you?

I'm just curious as to what it's like to wake up every morning and wonder how bad of a day it's going to be today...as you must wonder everyday.

Glen

You're correct about my opinion of the pool industry, but don't tell me I have nothing to contribute. Who the F**k are you? The GAME is great and I love "the game". You don't know me well enough other than my views on pool, which are legitimate and based on 3 decades of watching and playing. If the things I find in pool are disturbing to me but makes you cheery and happy, then I suggest that the problem is with you, because the general public would agree with ME.

Based on years of observing polls of the "general public" 20% would be with you, 20% would be with cheery and happy (illegally medicated), 20% would be with Glen, 20% with the need to over medicate, 20% would not be sure of their own name (already over medicated). 3% margin of error of course.

Why own a computer when you can go to the library and use one there?

Why own a TV when you can go to the movies or watch the ball game down at the sports bar or catch your favorite TV shows online?

Why have food in the fridge when you can eat at a restaurant or just run to the grocery store whenever you're hungry?

Why own a car when you can take a bus, bike or train?

The main motivation for me this time around was to be able to play on good equipment. I do have a pool hall 10 minutes from my home but don't care for the tables there. Plus they don't open until 3PM. With a table in my home I get to play whenever I want on excellent equipment and my playing time has gone up considerably because of the convenience of 24/7 access right in my home. It takes me longer to screw my cue together than it does to get to the table. I wouldn't run down to the pool hall unless I had a couple of hours to dedicate to playing. At home I can knock balls around for a half hour if that's all the time I have.

I doubt there are many players that would choose not to have their own table if they could.

If you have unlimited funds I guess going to a pool hall every day makes sense. My table has paid for itself many times over in greens fees saved.

Well then....I guess you need to either pull your head out of your own ass...and take a look around you buddy! Because there's more pool being played by more players all over the world today...than 30 years ago. Back then....leagues??????...WHAT leagues? Pool rooms in Moscow, Russia?...
Well, now isn't that a thing. Pool rooms in China?...WOW...how about Japan?? How about the fact that world champions today....are not all from America...or England anymore!!!

Wake up, smell the coffee...there's plenty of people playing pool everyday....except YOU! Yes, pool rooms are closing, yet...pool rooms are also opening, only difference is...the ones closing are closing because they're still trying to operate on a business plan that worked 10 years ago...that just don't cut it today, not for todays customers...because they want more...they EXPECT more...from a pool room....is that so wrong?

Get up and do something...if you don't like how pool is in YOUR world:rolleyes:

personally, I like playing pool more than I do interacting with people. Unless they are close friends (you asses know who you are!) then I'd rather play by myself, in the comfort of my own home, with my own food and TV, and have the option of clothing or not.

So, a table at home works well for me. And yes, it has improved my game... as long as I use it the right way.

Greg

I got a table at my house and I play on it ALL THE TIME. I've found with the various girls I've dated over the years it works great if the table is near the kitchen and living room that way they can be cooking or watching tv and you can still be together.

When I started playing leagues I was at the bottom of the ranks. I got a table and worked on tons of drills and I'd get asked how I got so good as I moved up the rankings and while guys that had been playing for decades longer than me stayed the same.

Last season I got league MVP in my BCA league so I would have to say a home table will greatly improve your game.

All the good stuff already mentioned. One of the biggest factor's
is like was said in an earlier post, listening to the sh*tty music.

Home table and practice sure pays. After 1 year, I could have given the old me the 7 all day long. I struggled to beat the ghost having many close matches like 7-5. After the first year, I was playing the ghost race to 30 and easily winning. My greatest area of improvement was with the CB. Best way to describe it, shoot a shot and take ball in hand, shoot the next shot and take BIH, do that for the entire rack. Obviously I can't naturally play BIH shape every shot, but I feel that I can. That believe improves, potting, shape, safety, hits... every part of the game. I stepped up from a good league player to borderline pro level player.

Hey Jason, do you do the BIH with 8, 9 or 15 balls ? I never heard of trying to do it that way, I'll have to give it a whirl. thanks.............

Whatever game you play, 8, 9, 10 ball. When you play shape, BIH position should be your target. You want to get use to running racks so a BIH during a run will help. Some might need 9 BIH others less. If you want to put serious practice time in, make sure you take the time to ask "If I had BIH". This will greatly improve your game, trust me, it works.

I never practice at a pool room, show up match up and play, but at home I really enjoy shooting balls in for fun.

Y'all some anti-social Mo_he_fu_ke_s , you know that ?!?
28 responses to this question , and not one person mentions that it's good entertainment when friends come over !
(Fatboy came close , saying that his has seen a lot of "action" , but friends and "action" games are two distinctly different things ! Fatboys still OK . . . .)
Does any y'all even have a friend , or does ya just beat up on this keyboard all day ?
Tap a can a draft , invite some friends over , and play some pool . Maybe even shake their unwashed hand after they come back in from P'ing on the tree in the backyard - it's what friends do !

most of the other answers were pretty valid , too . . .

Most of my friends are NOT players and I've found, much to my sorrow, that they don't understand the game or its' players. I had my table uncovered at our Christmas party last year and it was a big mistake. As far as pool is concerned, I've never be particularly "SOCIAL".

Having my own space and table is unreal
I love to just play and do pretty much everyday.
I can play when I want and for as long or short as I like.
I don't have to get in the car at midnight to drive to the pool hall just to play for 1/2 an hour.
I like to play on great equipment, not junky tables with filthy slow cloth.
I don't have to listen to the screamers, I can play in peace.
I can listen to music I like.
I can have people over.
And best of all, my room doesn't smell like piss.

Not yet...

lol, I guess I shouldn't invite you or your friends over

But seriously I walked into a pool hall last week that I have not visited for some time. I don't go there cause the cloth is so bad I have to wash my hands after every shot and then the can smells so bad I don't wanna wash my hands.
It changed owners a while back and I wanted to see if anything changed, well it has, now instead of having to go all the way to the back to the can to savor the aroma you can smell the piss as soon as you walk in the front door.

Someone please come here and open a decent pool room!

I'm surprised you don't have a great, not just good, room in Vancouver. I mean that is a world class city.
