Did anyone get all upset when Ed McMachon's of the WWF/WWE tried his hand at another Pro Football League?

Just asking bacause I think KT tried, and lost like Ed McMachon's of the WWF/WWE with Football.

Wasn't the "home office" described as a hole in the wall, and a real dump, by someone from AZ that went there on a surprise visit?

But, of course it's still operating, KT still needs somewhere from which to continue collecting $2K entry fees from uninformed players entering qualifiers to nowhere; collecting royalties from televising the prior tournaments, membership club fees, and most importantly, a place from which to send out announcements about why they can't actually pay the players that made it all possible.

Doesn't it all make sense now?

My understanding is that office was just a fulfullment office for Natural Cures/IPT, with the real office downtown, where it has been standing for 10 years. However, after talking to Eydie, she said that location has become their main office now.

Your kidding us...right? Have you been sleeping in a cave? I would list the differences but if you make this kind of statement you obviously could not comprehend.

Comparing the XFL/Vince McM vs. IPT/KT on scale is like comparing Home Depot to the corner hardware store. Here do some reading. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XFL

Do you still won't to compare?
8, 50 player teams
50 plus games
Coverage on NBC, UPN and TNN(Spike)

They completed the season, paid their bills and folded their tent. I think you need to work on your "Sleuthyness".

Correct it was Vince McMahon, my point is Business Ventures Fail all the time, and employees, shareholder, creditors, etc. Get Shafted. That SUCKS.....

Like ENRON, Arthur Andersen, Delorian Auto, etc.

Had an Photo Agent Shaft me once for 25K, hell yes it hurt....

Why?

Because Kevin "Not So" True-Dough fired a 3 Million dollar air barrel at the players. Thats why.

LOL re: Ed instead of Vince but you HAVE to be kidding right? The XFL was jointly owned by NBC!!! Do you have any information to suggest that NBC and its partners STIFFED the XFL football players???

I would be interested to read any such information. If not...what in the world does the failure of the XFL have to do with the IPT?

"NEW YORK (AP) -- X-it, stage left.

The XFL folded Thursday after one season that was a critical and TV ratings disappointment for the football league founded by the World Wrestling Federation and jointly owned by NBC."

Not to mention the likely 15 Million Dollar air barrel that was GUARANTEED so many times to the top 100 + 50 qualifiers.

There's nothing wrong with failing in business if you keep your promises.

But when you build your business on promises and don't honor them, that is a very different thing.

I have been following quite a bit of this and have kept my nose out of it however my feelings go to the players first. Years ago when I use to play Babe Cranfield (one of the best straight pool players around at the time) he and I use to talk about the future of this game quite a bit. Here is a guy that could have gone pro in golf. He didn't because the fact he loved pool. One statement he made to me was that pool players would never get their fair share in his life time. Well they didn't as many of you know, he had passed away. His statement has stuck with me for a life time.

When the IPT came around I thought "Wow, here it is." Well I now sit here and wonder if I jumped the gun. The truth is that the lack of communications is the main reason we are up-in-arms (not to say lack of payment and ++). If communications were better and the truth told I would imagine there would be a slew of complaints as well. And justly so.

So I have been struggling a bit in thought thinking if this Ho job goes through, just maybe things will work out. If it does or it doesn't, either way the players are still at a disadvantage. They just do not have the control.

As a vendor I stand a chance to lose reputation for my next thoughts though at this point I do not give a rats behind. The reason is that, damn it, players deserve respect.

Here it is;

Since my participation in pool I have seen nothing but organization after organization claiming to be the governing body of pool. I have seen organization after organization sucking the money out of billiards putting very little back in. The same organizations that complained that IPT was scheduling conflicts with their tournaments, did the same with each other.

This being said, it is now time pool players get together and become one. My point is not just the pros, but pool rooms and league players. Take this entire group and not only are there large numbers, but this translates to cash. Players have no idea how much power they really have as a group. We all need pros because they represent the cream of what the game is about. The pros need the rooms and the leagues because this is the largest driving force behind pool.

I believe that the ALL players should unite and do so as a "Not for Profit". I think it has been long due for this to happen. There is much more cash here than any promise of 12 million dollar tournaments.

My statement is that I believe billiards ought to be owned and run by players with all major leagues and tournaments be controlled by them. Nothing short of this or we can expect more problems with more ego's disrupting progress.

So if the IPT pays everyone and all are happy, so be it. My first and foremost concerns are players first and with respect.

Excellent post, Pete!! I couldn't agree with you more, the possibilities that such an organization could provide...well, the mind boggles.

Dear Mr. LaFond...First, I envy your having played pool with the late, GREAT "Babe" who was is one of the most under-appreciated players of all time.

Your ideas have great merit..and without question, the pros have suffered greatly due to their lack of organization...but then they were never forced NOT to organize. Hopefully this IPT saga will be the catalyst in overcoming the sort of "lone wolf" mentality that may have contributed to their lack of iron-clad unity so far.

But structurally, I would offer a different point of view. In virtually all major pro sports, the players are not in control of their "leagues/organizations"...rather those "controlling bodies" are headed up by wealthy individuals/corporations/team owners.

What I mean is that the players do not control the NFL/NBA/NHL etc. Those governing bodies are controlled by BIG wealth.

On the other hand, the players typically belong to a "Union" of sorts and those Unions act exclusively on the player's behalf and provide an excellent balance of power between the Controlling Bodies and the players.

My view is to not attempt to reinvent the wheel and that therefore:

A. The players MUST "unionize" and STICK TO IT and
B. The League/Tour/Governing Body should be constituted by those who benefit most from the billiard industry...i.e. an association of pool room owners, table and accessory manufacturers, cue and accessory manufacturers (like you), promoters etc. who...collectively...have the capital and the economic incentive to form a MAJOR, well captialized national tour.

Since such organizations come together several times a year at "expos" and the "major" tournaments, my suggestion is that the committee of players that seems to be forming due to the IPT saga, should attempt to arrange an "all hands on deck" fact finding meeting with the corporate sector of the pool industry to set in motion a PROCESS...and God knows it would be a PROCESS...to develop the ways and means of forming a cohesive NATIONAL Tour with WEEKLY (or nearly weekly) events during the "season"...culminating with the obligatory World Series/Superbowl type National Championship...or at the very least...a series of "Majors" as is the case with golf/tennis....(there being no "Superbowl" in either sport.)

What is for CERTAIN...is that the status quo has not...is not...and WILL not work. As my old man said..."If you can't be a genius...copy one." And by that I mean that simply COPYING the structure of other massively successful sporting organizations CANNOT be worse than the state of affairs today.

Regards,
Jim

Pool Sleuth,

Seriously, have you read any of this before you posted? (Either you obviously didn't read it, or you are just an incredible moron for not getting it)

Efren has not received the 500K he is owed.

Rodney has not recieved the 150K he is owed.

All the other players have not recieved the moeny they are owed.

The IPT now wants to give the players only 1/3 of the money.

Deno sexual harrassed and groped women on the IPT tour against there will, some of these women are married and have kids like Deno.

For christs sake man, read a little before you post a thread like this, it's blatantly obvious why everyone is mad at them.
