This 'contest gone bad' may leave a lot of AZers thinking Bill is an epic P.O.S. From what I've heard, he always was a bit of an ass-hole. An egomaniac.

But at the end of the day, his contribution to cuemaking pre-retirement can't be ignored or denied. And the value of his cues won't be affected by this in the least. In the longrun, No one will care. Everyone will move on. I suggest you do the same.

How about when a member of this forum gets stiffed by a tournament promoter? Or a forum member gets screwed by an unscrupulous seller? If it happened to you, I'm sure YOU would "just get over it" and move on!. Right?

I'm glad there are some members of this forum keeping the memory of this alive. Bill apparently does not care. The next cue maker might.

Exactly, and the worst part is he has had MUCHO time to make it right and still has NOT. why not? If his integrity and honor as a businessman means that little to him, then he deserves everything he gets.

Can you imagine the outpouring appreciation if he came on here and did the right thing, everything would be forgotten and he'd be treated as a hero for doing the right thing (even though it was his fault to begin with) But that is how it is, fess up, admit your mistakes, and folks will LOVE you. Even he does not want that ??? WTF ?

What a shame. Stroud's early work was just legendary. His early cues were probably in the top handful of all the cue makers on the planet. Then came rounded points with turquoise inlays, and now something like this.

I tried to make the DYD cue several times unsuccessfully and it was that cue that forced me to realize that I could no longer keep making cues. I simply could not see well enough to continue.

My local eye doctor simply didn't understand my eye condition well enough to give me the correct advice. It was only after I quit cue making and got to a large city and a better doctor that I realized my eyes could be fixed. Risky but possible.

After a variety of eye surgeries I could see again but had already given all my equipment away.

And he was playing on the tournament circuit during the time he could have been working on the cue.

Seriously, although I can't explain his behavior, what I can explain is Bill never once mentioned his situation to the members here who participated in the contest despite every opportunity to do so, which would have put this issue to rest quickly and decisively.

I think that probably because you weren't around during the time all of this was going on that you are unable to grasp the enormity of the bullshit hoax Bill Stroud perpetuated on the AZ community.

And the post you referenced from Bill that you are placing much value on was just more BS from BS.

He played this cummunity for fools and ripped off the contest winner and has no shame over it, whatsoever.

Every day that he wakes up he has the chance to do something about it and he chooses not to.

And he still can make it right, even without cuemaking equipment.

I suggest you search Design Your Dream and read the thread. It's the one that has about 80k views and is a few hundred pages long. It may give you a better sense of what went on.

His "cuemaking" and his "character" are two separate issues, they don't average out and get measured by one score. The more important measure is, by far, one's character.

Overall, I think Bill has been punished quite a bit here for this (major) faux pas. Due to the high profile nature of the contest, I can't say he didn't earn the scorn.

We need to understand what happened, take his silence as a big lesson in how "not to handle" a PR disaster, and just forgive him. We do this because it helps us heal as individuals and as a community. If we can't forget and forgive, the problem no longer resides with him, it resides in us.

We need to give Bill some credit too. He is an expert in the history of modern cuemaking. He made many amazing cues (including my own, which I love) during a very long career. He has posted in threads since then helping members ID JW cues and giving other useful information. He also organized a highly successful annual collector cue show, for which I am grateful.

Obviously Stroud just got confused, because he is old, senile, weak, and shaky.
