Why STILL All The Venom For Bill Stroud?

I have just found out and have heard of this directly from Gene Hackman himself maybe an hour ago that he has decided not to go playing pool shortsless nor breechesless, not anymore. He explained me it was a tuff decision but it must have been made:smile::smile::smile::eek:Mostly for his his own good:eek::eek:

This issue is entirely about integrity. Which side of this "argument" you fall on defines your view on integrity too.

Lyn...The outcome was predetermined when Bill chose not to construct and deliver the cue...let alone choose not to respond in any way. Bottom line, he sold his equipment...the cue will NEVER be made. IMO Bill Stroud has lost all integrity that he ever had...over one stupid pool cue. Sad, really...a lifetime in the industry vanishes in a moment of reckless, uncaring indecision.

Anyone know of an outcome?

In summary: He pulled a scumbag move. This thread is old. People still want his cues.

that cannot be denied
so he didnt finish a cue.....(get over it)
or
he had a dui
or he beat his wife
so what
adrian peterson will play football for someone next year
at 12-13 million a year
dont shoot the messenger
thats the world we live in
i cant say i agree but

Not so sure about that. There are several posters on this thread whom I respect that disagree with my view of this problem. Nothing is totally black or white. Truthfully, although I have never even met Bill Stroud, this one dealing does show a lack of personal intergrity on his part. Period. No amount of obfiscation can hide that!

So if Bill failed to fulfill an order you submitted and paid up front for, it would be perfectly OK with you just because? Is that really your position? You'd just get over it? Offering a "free" cue to a contest winner is no different in my view than prepaying for the cue. As '99 said, scumbag move by a respected professional.

I would lose respect for a cue maker if they got a DUI. I would lose repsct for a cue maker if they beat their wife. And, I would lose respect for a cue maker that promised a cue and didn't deliver on his word. Contest, pro bono, or for money. All of the above is about integrity amongst other things.

There is right and wrong. If you dont think Bill was wrong than you are a total idiot and I question your morals as well. Playing with his cues or owning/admiring them is a separate matter entirely. Don't confuse the two.

Cut right to the heart of the matter. Don't agree with the "total idiot" part. Bill's defenders are on thin ice at best. There IS a difference between the person and the product. You said it best. :clapping::bow-down:

I do not think Bill Stroud is being dishonest with the posts associated with these links.
It seems to me that there's more to this story which will undoubtedly annoy his critics.
If someone can't physically perform at the level they previously were capable of and
let's face it, Bill is getting on in years.......and decades of cue-making work exposure,
it all sounds pretty plausible and I say cut the man some slack and let this fade away.

i do think bill was wrong to not fulfill on his promise
i also would think twice to buy a cue directly from a cuemaker whose past history was suspect
.........
to quote you
Playing with his cues or owning/admiring them is a separate matter entirely
so to me you are able to separate morally using a cue from someone who has done wrong
perhaps our morals are similar....:D
..........

imho i am not an idiot and my morals are of a high standard.....:)

Matt,

Wonder if there is as much physical performance buildng cues as there is playing "professional" pool? Wasn't one of Bill's reasons for giving up his business so he could play more pool? Didn't he enter several top line events in the following year? Without success as I remember it. Just have a hard time accepting and forgiving. He built up the hopes and dreams of many AZ'ers knowing he was not capable of building cues anymore? What about having another cue maker build the cue under his guidence? He could have done more! He just chose to walk away. Silently.

Lyn

Easy fix. If he can't make cues anymore just send the winner a nice Josswest cue. End of problem in my book.
