Will Keith McCready

I was there for that match

JAM......if you remember, i was there for that match that night. you are right, it was a classic Keith match. i have been fortunate to have seen Keith play in several tournaments plus money matches. He is the 1st player to have won the Joss Tour event at the Golden Cue in Albany back to back. Once beating Danny Hewitt and Frankie Hernandez in the other. By the way, in the next one he finished 2nd. I consider him the best entertainer on a pool table in the business. and not afraid to express his opinion if he thinks his opponent is giving him bad racks. with or without the long brown necks......just my humble opinion.......mike

Keith is one of my favorite players of all time. A showman, hustler, comedian and one powerhouse of a player. The guy is a genius.... I hope he comes back...

Keith always has been and will always be the man to watch. His love for the game shows so much. I think it's what gives him that extra gear, and when he hits that gear watch out!

That's true, Keith does have a special relationship w/ pool. Just look at his longevity in the game and his place in its lore.

Example I'v shared before: I was in a 1p tourney with him and he was ruling me. Getting to the end of our set- he's on the hill and I need quite a few in the current game- I solicit his input on a hi-test, rail first offensive shot. He agrees on it being an OKshot and I hit it like a chump. He had to physically restrain himself from stopping the disaster, as it happened, to show me the right way.

Come back

I was around to see Keith play alot, the problem with his come back is Keith was mostly a cash player, the action now has gone completely downhill. I would love to see him make a come back, he was one of the greatest money players I ever got to see.

Keith vs Buddy

Jam,

The match with Jose was great, but don't forget about the match Keith played against Buddy Hall. Keith was talking to the crowd and making some great shots and he came from behind at the end to beat Buddy.

James

I've collected a few videos of Keith. There aren't many around. They didn't have the kind of technology they do today. Word of mouth is the majority of today's pool archives for players who peaked before the year 2000.

The best Accu-Stats match of Keith for me was the 2003 U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship when he was still in the winner's bracket and defeated Jose Parica. He was actually feeling no pain, if you know what I mean. :p

It was about midnight when the match was played, and all the side action bets were on Jose to win by a huge margin. While every other player in the tournament was drinking H20, Keith was consuming those brown longnecks, one right after the other, but what happened during this TV table match was magical. I guess you had to have been there to see it.

The audience connected with Keith during this match, and when this happened, it was the fuel that ignited his pool engine. Keith went into turbocharge. He not only played brilliantly, but he entertained. If they had played the finals that night, Keith would have won the U.S. Open. That's how good he was hitting 'em. In fact, Billy Incardona even comments as the Accu-Stats commentator that Keith was on fire.

Usually, the action players go to Q-Masters during the Open, but this night, they all came to sit ringside to watch Keith play. It was pretty cool! Highly recommend this video.

Keith and Cole

I really wanted to see Keith make it back to see his old running buddy Cole Dickson.

Maybe sometime get those old road dogs at DCC!

I dont think he will ever make a "meaningful" comeback. Keith is getting fairly old, keep in mind this guy started playing in the 70's, his prime years were in the early 1980's at the latest. I think it is just as unreasonable to expect Keith to make a comeback where he actually competes at the top level as it would be to expect that from Rempe, or Hall, or other people from Keith's era.

WHAT I REALLY want from Keith is a freaking book, that guy would have some killer stories to tell, and he his girl writes a short thesis each day on AZB already, this could be like a 2 week project. Keith likes to talk, JAM likes to write, this is a no brainer IMO...
