I told you three years ago JAM he was the man for the job.

It's kind of like cooking spaghetti sauce. You try different recipes, and finally, one day, you find the perfect ingredients that mix well and make the spaghetti sauce a hit.

Oh, Watchez, I was on that same band wagon 3 years ago too. You must have missed my threads that I created about Mark Wilson 3 years ago, but I'll let you take the glory.

I actually believe that the preparation of these five players is what is making a difference.

Two years ago in Vegas, it seems like each American on the team had their own agenda. There was no unity, like there was on Team Europe.

Well, all that has changed now. Win or lose, I'm proud to be rooting for the right team, and that's Team USA!

And Kudos to pro9dg (Doug) for helping disseminate the word and make things happen in the way that only Doug can do. Good call, Doug! You're a pretty good chap, even if you do live over on the other side of the pond. ;) :grin-square:

Indeed, JAM!
I just hate all the excuses that will inevitably be presented if Team USA loses.

I just wish Corey and Mike were playing more steadily. We'd be in the thick of it if they were.

On to Wednesday

I don't mind Wilson as captain, but he is so far over the top with all his "positive thinking" BS. Remember if you put 20 of the most positive thinking players in a room to square off, 10 of them will be losers. Talent and mental toughness is what gets the job done.

Using your genius logic

Put 20 people with talent in a room and 10 will be losers

Put 20 people with mental toughness in a room and 10 will be losers.

Wrong - anyone can convey a positive attitude. Metal toughness must be proven over time, in varying environments, and comes in all levels.

He has a tremendous team. He just lacks a sports psychologist to help the players get to the bottom of why they haven't been performing at the cup and renew their confidence.

On paper Shane vs Darren should have been a coin flip. In reality there was only going to be one winner. The miss on the 8 from Shane was a shot he would never miss in any other competition. But for what ever reason he lets the atmosphere and event get to him.

I like that he has taken a risk with Skylar. He is of the age where he doesn't know when he is beat and thinks he can take on the world. That is the outlook all team USA need. They get that mindset as a team and the Mosconi Cup is back to being a coin flip instead of all this one sidedness of previous years.

Johan Ruijsink coach Europe the last five years before this year.

The guy reinvented pool training and sports psychology. ex-Dutch Special Forces
American Instructor Bert Kinister traveled to Netherlands and confirmed the guy is the best coach in the world.

Mark Wilson is on the right track. He's just shadowing what Johan did with Europe.

It's not positive attitude as much as it's positive discipline.
You are correct about mental toughness, but without discipline, it can't be achieved.

This is the environment that Europe has with pool.....

Finally on the road to Johan’s home, night club and pool room in The Hague, we coasted in under cover of darkness with no brakes, no gas, no sleep and there they were waiting—I do not know for how long—eight to 12 young men acting like a drill team, waiting to learn pool.

From an article by Bert Kinister.

Mark Wilson understands in creating an environment and culture to grow pool excellence.

Bunch of knuckleheads knocking. Mark did a great job and team USA isn't done yet.
Win or lose, you should be supporting them.

Believe it or not, it was a typo. I meant 2013, not 2003. In case you missed it, I said 3 years, as did you. I didn't know what a "Mark Wilson" was in 2003.
