Wood, or Wood WHAT Produces the BEST HIT IN A Cue?

Since I'm a know it all non cuemaker I'm going to answer.

I think cocobolo/maple combos are my favorite. Beautiful and I think they hit fantastically.

Now if I didn't mind ugly I'd go with bacote and perhaps purpleheart.

Hahaha laminaten ramen wood. Dr pocket hit the nail right in the head for me. Rw. Pph bacote cocobolo alot of combos play good

To slightly stray off topic... does anyone here, or any known pros, prefer a 1 piece cue hit? If the joint is removed from the equation, I guess the same wood preferences apply?

yea the same wood preferences wouldn't change, if you didn't have to carry a cue around there would be no need for a joint, the joints there to just transfer the energy and let the wood do the work.

How about 60 to 70 year old PH and maple. I just got a Brunswick conversion from Lee Pepper and if I could marry a cue my wife would be out the door.
The hit is superb and I have not to this day felt anything quite like it.
I have to edit this post. The only cue that has come close to the hit of this old Brunswick is my Sly sneaky.

Good hitting wood

I think as a pool player I haven't seen every good player agree on what a good hit is. That's where it has to start if you ask me. I've been playing a long ,-------------------long------------long--------time. lol

Its subjective on what each pool player feels has the best hit. If opinions didnt vary as widely as they do, there wouldnt be so many cue makers, either that or we would all make me the same way.

Having said that I have 2 boards of 150+ year old rosewood that my neighbor gave to me. This wood is like nothing Ive felt, dense doesnt cover it, old growth for sure as you cant hardly see the growth rings.
