Worst thing to happen to pool in recent memory?

Worst thing? The acceptance of crybabies that whine non-stop about tips, leagues and chalk, among other things. Want to know what the best freakin $263 cue out there is? GO TRY THEM AND SEE.

So many people to smack upside the head, so little time. :slap:

OTB said it, poker. Poker is the one single thing that has had the most negative effect on the pool world.

Not that poker itself is bad, but it killed the pool world I used to know.

Worst thing to happen to pool in recent memory? Pool players are the worst thing about pool, always have been. Generally self serving egotists who think that scoring pennies is the pinnacle of human achievement. Here's a challenge: go the the graveyard and count the number of pool players there who died broke. Hint: this challenge will be really difficult, because they generally couldn't afford a headstone...

First..POKER........Second...Every swinging Di@k thinking there a cue maker/cue repair guy buying a lathe and fu@king up more shafts and cues than I can count, you dont use 250 grt. sand paper to clean a shaft..........

Poker, and real estate.

Rent is freaking out of this world if you want to be on a highway, and it means you can't make it on table time alone.

$ 16-18 sq-rft/year in some really good areas 20-22 in NJ. For 5k square feet, thats 7500 a month just for the rent.

Efren's back problems that he doesn't seem to have recovered from yet. He is the best spokesman for this sport.

A close second...the mounting people that hate on people that make money and win tournaments, while having only complaints without any solutions.

Where do I start?

Jump cues, Simonis billiard cloth on pool tables, APA, kareoke, pants

halfway down, iconic pool halls closed, poker, no pro tour, aiming system

scammers.

Did I forget anything?

Yes! You forgot "no more free water at Hank's".

Everyone keeps wanting pool to "go back" to this and that. Room owners, promoters, players. They want another "Color of Money" or "Camel Tour" instead of realizing that in order for pool to grow it has to do something different, not go backwards. Kids do not play pool like before because they are not interested in the gambling aspect of pool. They were raised with casinos and lottery tickets so its not appealing. If they want to gamble they can buy a scratch off ticket and not have to spend 1000 hours practicing. They can play pool online and be a "pro level" on the computer in a day or two. Kids go online to search for a place to hang out and half the pool rooms out there don't have a website or a Facebook page. Just because they never needed one before.

Its okay to reminisce about how pool used to be, just not plan the future around it.

If you go on Alexa and search the demographics of AZBilliards you will see a big reason we (AZ members) are out of touch with the rest of the internet.

I think this one's probably got it.

Plenty of pool halls have closed up recently, and it's not because the game has gotten less fun or less interesting over time. In some areas you just can't seem to make money running a pool hall unless it's more of a bar with a few pool tables.

People are also spoiled... many forms of entertainment will remove about 10 bucks an hour from your wallet.... bowling, drinking at bars, going to see a movie, etc. But it seems like pool players go into sticker shock if they can't play all day for five bucks flat.

Fully agree.

I've never used Alexa before - how does it work? How can it know the demographics?

Women's tour falling apart. Good exposure for the game, and it would have been chump change for ESPN to fund the tour.

Billiard Education Foundation's decision to concentrate on 9 ball for young beginning players. What we do not need is another generation of bar box bangers. I think I will make no further donations to this organization.

1. The cue snob, You know the type $2500 and only 18 months of waiting
till 'the cue of my dreams arrives'. Two weeks later it's for sale. On to the next snob cue like a merry go round...

2. Gamblers who are homeless....

3. Leauge players who think they are 'world beaters'.

That a$$hat who threw his cue and then danced on the table.

I'm glad his opponent didn't brain him. Nice to see one person with class.

dld
while I dont find him to be a A$$hat, and I dont mind emotion...jumping on the table was in poor taste and disrepectful to the game...it made me cringe!

For many road agents, I'd say the Internet.

Nowadays you can get the line on an unknown before he walks through the door.

In all seriousness,I think when guys are blatantly chopping, throwing matches so there buddy can get Mosconi points, brings a cloud over the sport thats difficult to remove.

Pool Leagues and Pool League handicapped mentalities have ruined pool. I don't mind giving up weight if you bet something and we negotiate the spot. Walking into a bar with junk equipment knowing your going to give up 10-3 to any random clown with a pulse and a cue is sickening.

Don't hate poker. It's not poker's fault. Minesota fats once said," You can be the best gin player in the world, but if no one in the joint plays gin where are you?" Well, I can tell you. There are countless poker wanabes that can't wait to give their money away. Meanwile, not a poolpayer in site that will bet fat meat is greasy. Easy to see where the huslers are going and why.

I watched about 40 games of the last world 9 ball tournament. I think there were 3 racks where the breaker failed to make the wing ball. I don`t think having a dead ball in the rack makes the game better. Boring.

Ok then lets have everybody hit a rack that isnt COMPLETELY tight??

I think its hysterical that everybody bitc*hes and complains about slug racks and then when a solution is found to correct it its too perfect?? Oi Vay what a moan fest!!! :boring:

Seriously if you do want players making the wing ball on the break (which in itself is a set skill whether you believe that or not) then don't let him or her to the table. That and learn how to break and get shape like most of these players do. You only have yourself to blame in this situation!!

MR, Tight Rack or the Slug doctor are great racking tools that leave almost no room for human error. Personally I dont like the template racking systems because they are raised and alter the roll of the balls. However... The Slug Doctor or Tight Rack system is FLAWLESS and doesnt interfere with the way the balls play and you don't have to remove it. I hope one day that these two systems will become the industry standard so we all don't have to hear people bitc*h and moan about how bad the rack is.

If you dont like games that have balls wired (this is again... a skill and not luck!!) then don't play those games. Play one-pocket, 14:1 or other games that the break shot is not wired.

This crap really needs to come to an end and soon. WAKE UP EVERYBODY!!!! Your all a bunch of nits
