It's sad; but perhaps they shouldn't even have a "winner" - perhaps just announce these events as exhibitions, and give a list of the players with only one loss. Or perhaps paper/rock/scissors would be a better way to resolve the issue.

It's the same in a lot of sports. I don't understand the complaints...
sjm said:No sillier than baseball. The LA Dodgers had a .519 winning percentage, the 15th best winning percentage in baseball this year, and yet, here they are a step away from the World Series (strangely enough, I find myself rooting for them).
I think WPBA competitors should be rewarded for going undefeated in the rounds leading up to the final. My recommendation would be to give undefeated players two games on the wire in the round of sixteen. That wouldn't solve everything, but it would be a big step in the right direction.

If the WPBA did group stage round robins, THEN single elimination - that would be GREAT (......but they don't).
If they played races to 11 or 12 or 13 that would be GREAT (....but they don't).
If their purpose is to provide an entertaining exhibition, they are succeeding admirably.
If their purpose is to identify the best player each week, they are falling well short of the mark
If their purpose is to identify a "Number One" player; they are woefully short of the mark.
Fans that don't care about these issues will not see any problem; it's their prerogative. Unreasonable fanatics such as myself hurt a little bit when we see how far short they fall from what could be a great game. I still plan on attending every tournament that I can.
Pjadedd said:They do have the group stages then single eliminations for Nationals. At least, that's what they did last year and I think they're doing it again this year. However, it's less people that get to play. In regular tournaments, there are 64 players. Only the top 48 make Nationals.
