young Austin MURPHY

He will more than likely be the best of Archer, Earl, and Efren in 15 years or so.

Has anyone seen this kid play?

How will he do?

I was impressed with how far he advanced in the Reno Open this year. The brackets are probably archived somewhere on the site but I have no idea where they would be.

the kid

Ive seen him play in local tourneys, and he's good. Dont know how well he'll do in the IPT but being as good as he is at his age, sky's the limit.

I'm sure he will make it on TV by your reviews. Not just because the IPT is looking for "a story" to help build excitement and drama, but because he can play!

Can't wait to see him play.

Austin Murphy has been playing in tournaments at Hard Times Billiards in Sacramento CA for the last 3 years. I've seen his game progress from a solid "C" player to his current speed.

Austin plays a solid game of shot making and position play that you normally would see in a seasoned player in his early to mid 20s.

He won the last 8 ball tournament Hard Times had two years ago.

On the Break monthly westcoast magazine had a nice story line on Austin from this years Bar Box tournament in CA.

The local News Channel also did a recent story on Austin and his older brother Braden.

I have seen Austin play twice. I would say that his level of play is just under the shortstops of pool (say slightly under a Jon Hennessey, Keith Bennett, etc.) The best thing I see in him is that he seems to have a close family & is a very well behaved 'kid'. Due to his age, the comparisions to Landon Shuffert are there. Landon & Austin both seem to be two young men that are being taught how to act/think in a grown up world by two fathers that do it right. Win or lose, they act the same. Most of the time, unless looking for them you wouldn't even know they were in the building. Not that they need my praise, but my hat go offs to them both.

We got a young kid in this area, he's from the Hickory area...Adam. He's only 13 or 15...already won more than his share...even beat Earl...go figure. This kid will be the real deal too.

I have only seen Austin and Landon in DCC for the past couple years. Both times they impressed me with poise and behavior as much as they impressed me with pool ability. Landon also took some lessons with instructor Mark Wilson in our pool room when he was 4 or 5 I think? You knew he had potential then.

I was thinking of hiring both of them as instructors for my pool players.

Oh...Not to instruct my pool players how to play pool....to instruct my players on what acting like a grown adult is supposed to be like.

I do really hope this is the direction of our sport. They both must have great support systems in family and friends to turn out this well. Hopefully if this type of behavior catches on pool will finally be a sport that is looked up to and not looked down upon by the general public.

Beautiful Stroke

I had the opportunity to see Austin play in Tucson at the Jr. Nationals last month and spoke with him and his dad briefly. So impressive - his stroke reminds me of Corey somewhat, Austin's stance is similar and the way he addresses the table. He also appears to have a good head on his shoulders. His father was very softspoken and genuine. Seems like good folks. Austin was very gracious and giving to the other players around him. I observed that when he wasn't aware anyone was looking, that says a lot to me.

I told Austin about this thread today. He just went hill-hill with Danny Basavich. He shot straight and jawed a ball, otherwise it could have gone the other way. Danny made some strong shots to win, because the layout was double tough.

He almost backed into Austin while he was twitching and doing his thing. :p

I watched him screw around on a bar box in Vegas this past May..... the kids definately got a future. With family support, if he sticks with it..... he could go to the very top.

here, this is from the front page...

BCA Junior National Champion Austin Murphy. Murphy found himself in a late night match against Danny Basavich with the winner advancing and the loser being eliminated. Murphy and Basavich fought to a hill-hill score before Basavich clinched the match with a win in the case game.

Great Job, Got into the Money

:) Austin accomplished more than many other pros did and got into the money. Great Job. Keep up the hard work. You'll be a World Champion some day.

All the pros at the IPT finished in the money.

We had a lot of fun watching Austin and the other players from the junior nationals play here in Tucson last month. I was impressed by many of the young players, not only in their abilities, but in the way they acted in the tourney and in the local pool halls. I didn't get to see much of the tourney, but I watched a lot of matches in the local pool rooms, and my hat is off to all of the new young talent.
