Young man with ACTION PAINS heading out West....

Scott, I will be going to Tucson on Friday or Saturday to catch the last few matches of the event. I went two years ago when it was in Tucson and I was blown away by all the kids chirping at each other and looking for action.

I was under the impression I was going to a junior version of the BCA Championship. Turned out it was a junior version of Derby City.

Interesting and amusing thread... Years ago, a jr. player would be DISQUALIFIED if he/she were caught gambling, even outside the tournament.
Seems like the 'rules' have disappeared. There's certainly nothing wrong with gambling, but imo it has no place at the jr. national tournament. This is supposed to be a championship where kids come to learn respect for the game, their opponents, and themselves. Why is Justin even going? There's zero prize money, and he already has a national title for "prestige" and ego satisfaction. Makes you wonder... Justin is obviously an expert player, and on his way to the pro ranks. I just can't figure out why he'd bother going to Tucson.

Where Justin is coming from on his way to Arizona? That helps a bit if you know the route of travel. He shouldn't have a problem getting matched up in Tulsa or Oklahoma City or Dallas or even here in Wichita.

Wow How much for the dog? I bet it would make a fine meal in a pinch!!!!:D

Scott: Are there no rules in place regarding gambling at the Jr. National tournament? Because if there are rules on gambling at this event, then someone should bring this thread to the tournament director's attention for possible disciplinary action.

Allen, you are so weak. Your last post is probably the most pathetic thing I have ever read on this forum. Let me guess you like to play in pool leagues where if you dont put a coaster by the pocket when making the 8 ball, you lose. I bet you love to call that rule on the other team.

Yeah, are there any rules that say you cannot talk about gambling?

You are a NIT.

I know Justin has a bit of a game, but how strong is he on pools landscape of players? Better than other junior players like Austin Murphy, or Shane McMinn or John Morra??

get a life

You need to get a life dude! If these kids want to gamble, thats there priority. Where I come from, people don't actually love gamblers, but they hate snitches like yourself. Stay out of other peoples business if all you are trying to do is cause problems.

Hey Watchez, I've read a lot of funny replies on here, and this one that you wrote describing "Pool Fish Allen" is one of the best/on the mark/funniest ever.

Thanks Ghost. Allen isn't too hard to read. I am also positive that many years ago, he was the fat kid on the bus that told on the other kids.

the winner of the Junior National Championships gets to represent the USA in the Junior World Championships, usually held in Europe or Australia. That trip is PAID FOR and probably worth, as a low estimate, $5000.

I had forgotten about that. I stand corrected, as that is definitely worth pursuing. You're right, winning is contagious...but winning is not all about hustling and gambling. When it becomes that, imo, you've lost sight of what the game is all about. Best of luck to all the contestants...Justin included.

I don't think too many people can hustle anymore....especially Justin. Justin's name & picture is all over the internet. And do to his size, he is very recognizable. A few posters on here are making comments about Justin & I will say again that tells me that they don't even know him or have seen him play. To people he doesn't know, when approached, he is very humble. To say he has an ego is the farthest from the truth. Yes, he has confidence in his game and is realistic to his playing speed but he doesn't belittle people. In private, to his true friends, he might have a different attitude & be more frank when discussing another player, game, or chances to win. I think many of these posters watch too much Sportscenter with the Terrell Owens, Chad Johson, Ricky Henderson of this world & are trying to create something about Justin that is just not there.

IMO none would be favored over JUSTIN:)

I just got off the phone with Justin about an hour ago. He won in the finals, 9-1. I guess the other player shouldn't have mouthed off that he was going to beat Justin 9-0, 9-0 to double dip him. That set fire into Justin. The only game the other player won is because Justin had to jack up, spear this ball in & scratched when he drew it back.

Justin will be back in St Louis in 2 weeks if anyone cares to do anything.

Congratulations to Justin are in order. Too bad this thread went to shit and in so many different directions. Watchez, did his opponent really say he was going to beat him 9-0, 9-0 in the finals? If so, bad move, huh.:D

Yes he did. Earlier Justin told me that this kid was probably the second best player in the tournament. His first year playing from Michigan & a solid A type player. On the winners side Justin had beat him 9-7 after being down 3-0 and 6-3. They taped the finals & Justin thinks it might be broadcast on FoxSports sometime.

It looked like the guy who was there with the Fox Sports shirt on only caught part of a match. He certainly did not get all of the match. I got the idea he was just a cameraman for a local news station and happened to be wearing a Fox Sports shirt.
