Recent Facebook banter regarding fargo

(1) Matchups like 5-5, 5-4, 6-4, 6-3, 7-3 (0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 game spots) don't smoothly blend into one another. You can't give a 2.3 game spot; it's either 2 or 3. So in your effort to make the match close to 50%/50% somebody is going to get an edge when you are forced to lock into one of these matchups. We choose to ALWAYS assign any residual edge to the higher-rated player. That means even these ostensibly 50%/50% matches are in actuality more like on average 55%/45% in favor of the higher rated player. That doesn't sound like such a big difference. But if you look over multiple matches it is bigger. A 55% favorite has twice the chance of winning the next 3-4 matches as does a 45% person
Highlighted is why I prefer "hot" race matchups. Give the edge to the lower rated player. :)

WPA vs WNT break format

Just give refs a fone-based speed gun. They wouldn't have to check every break shot. Just roam around and randomly check. Players would soon be hip to the roaming break cops and stop that pitty-pat break shit.
Yes, in theory, but maybe not in practice.

In the end, and it is obviously regrettable, pool refs enforce the rules they like and not the others. That's why the "wax on wax off" issue at the World 9ball came up in the first place. While WPA was correct to point out, after the fact, that doctoring the cue ball has been outside the letter of the law for many years, the truth is that the rule has never been enforced by the officials who are fully accountable to WPA.

Until pool officials choose to enforce all the rules that are on the books, we will have a problem with issues like these. In short, adding the rule that officials must oversee break speed will have no impact at all unless tournament officials choose to enforce such a rule.

Finally Made It To Evansville

Do you actually compete with other players? I think, as a pool player wanting to get better, you'd be out seeking competition. Action. Tournaments. No matter the table. Table be d*mned...you're out to seek and destroy. Did you play competitive sports growing up? Playing by yourself in the "gym" isn't telling you anything. You have to put those racks on a real life opponent who wants to beat you.
Matt, no one will play with him. He's played bar box tournaments before. Read his posts and you see quickly why.
